We always make it a point at coming to the Lighthouse Cafe when in Cape Cod. Very good food and service and fresh made muffins to die for. The character of the place is very old school New England and they top it off by being cash only. In the past I've had their homemade hash and eggs but today I'm going with a bacon, spinach, Tomatoe, onion, and cheddar omelette. This is my hidden gem. Great breakfast with wonderful pancakes and a variety of delicious muffins. Lunch is also spectacular especially the American chop suey. Been coming here for years. Never again. Called this morning for takeout, got the message "welcome to Verizon Wireless, your call can not be completed as dialed, as the called party is busy." Tried several times over 30 minutes (and again just now as writing this review). So they have their phone off the hook. I drive over to order takeout in person, which I've done before. I walk in and here's the conversation I have with the manager: Me: Hi I'd like to order the Breakfast Melt (which is a really great breakfast sandwich) to go. Manager: Sorry we don't do takeout. Me: I'm confused. I've ordered takeout here for years. Manager: Sorry. Me: Well, I tried calling you several times and your phone isn't working. Since I drove all the way over here, do you think you could make an exception? Manager: No. Sorry. You know how sometimes people say "sorry" but you can tell they don't mean it? That. Note that here on Yelp, and on Google, and even *on their own website* it says they do takeout. As I walk out, the sign in the window says to call "to place your order." See photos. We stumbled across Lighthouse Cafe on our walk this morning and left having experienced one of the best breakfasts ever. We walked in and sat at a blue checkered table right by the window and admired the homey and warm atmosphere. The service was impeccable - our waitress couldn't have been more friendly and attentive. The omelet was perfectly fluffy and satisfying with every bite, breakfast potatoes crispy and decadent, and sourdough bread ideally toasted and buttered. This is a local cafe that we stopped in for lunch while on the Cape. The menu appeared to offer many specials and we took advantage of two. My date had the tuna melt sandwich on marbled rye and a side of cole slaw. He often gets tuna melt and really liked this one. I had the 1/2 order of pot roast sandwich, only without bread and cole slaw on the side. The pot roast was such great comfort food and cooked to perfection. Lighthouse Café is a delicious no frills breakfast joint in Harwich. My daughter and I had a great meal there after we had to drive unexpectedly to Harwich to get our car fixed. We didn't know the area so we consulted yelp and came up with Lighthouse as our best option for breakfast. The service was spot on they all work as a team to make sure that all of your needs are met quickly and without fuss. I asked our server for a recommendation and her recommendation was great. The linguiça Benedict was fantastic. The hollandaise sauce was just the right consistency and the flavor-not too thick not too heavy. The eggs were poached perfectly. I've been to much more expensive restaurants lately and have had much worse eggs! My daughter had some delicious chocolate chip pancakes. If I had had anything to complain about, I wish they had better maple syrup. But it was a small little thing. Iced coffee was also delicious. I thought I'd treat my daughter to lunch on a school day after an appt before she went back. We chose this place because she was craving eggs and this place is close to her school. When we walked in, there were maybe three tables sat, definitely not busy and yet neither of the waitresses could be bothered to look up or greeted us. We eventually made our way in and grabbed a menu. My daughter chose an eggs and hash meal, which we got to go bc of the unwelcoming vibe we received. When she opened her meal to eat, she took a bite of the hash and couldn't even swallow it, it had very strong, meat gone bad taste. I brought the meal (one bite eaten) back in and told them I believed the meat had gone bad, as it tasted sour and bitter. The waitress rolled her eyes and told me that "everyone else had been eating it and they're fine" the other waitress made a remark that my daughter just isn't used to "real hash". I told them that my husband is a chef and that she is familiar with homemade food with quality ingredients. The waitress stormed to the register and gave me half of the money back, "for the hash" which was a little confusing because she looked into the to go container to see the entire meal still there. I asked the waitress for the rest of the cost back because I'm not going to have my daughter eat around the bad meat which is why she didn't eat the rest of her meal. She loudly "yeah, yeah, okay, okay" -ed me and threw a ten dollar bill on the counter. I was shockedat the lack of customer service and rudeness that I received. I do realize the stress many restaurants are facing these days, but this is over the top horrendous customer service. Food goes bad sometimes and mistakes happen... but treating a customer the way they did isn't going to help your (almost empty) restaurant (at noon) through these hard times. The "not recommended" reviews at the very bottom of this restaurants yelp reviews are more reflective of the experience and atmosphere they're offering customers. read more

really basic breakfast but just really underwhelming. I ordered the breakfast melt but the staff didnt ask me what cheese I wanted with it. It was not listed and they gave me swiss cheese which I HATE. had to pick my meat and eggs off the bread and eat and the ham was wicked weird tasting. I didnt eat it. Eggs were bland, no seasoning? homefries are those big mushy ones you get at most bad breakfast places.(Dennys are better yikes) we got french toast which werent really good at all they just slapped a ton of salted butter on em. My wife got the sausage omelette. Ok frozen sausage links and raw big chunks of onion and peppers... They claimed it was 3 eggs but the omelette was pretty small for 3 eggs. Wife picked around all the filling. not an acceptable omellete would jnot recommend. read more
