From the first meeting to the setup, they walked my husband and I through everything for our wedding. Sheila and her husband Bilal helped us have exactly everything what we wanted for our dream wedding. Although there were a few things I was stuck on design wise, but they knew exactly what to suggest. Very professional, organized, timely, detailed and diligent with their work. It definitely shows! Sorry this is going to be a little long.... I saw Sheila Burki Designs at a friend's weddings and was immediately enamored by their work. When they actually put in the effort, they do deliver and do good work. However, it does not account for the fact that they are the rudest and most arrogant people we have worked with during the entire wedding process. I didn't find a lot of reviews about them online when we booked, so I went in blindly. I hired them for two events - a reception and a dinner. The workers who did the setup showed up an hour late for the reception (their contract claims they need a min of 5 hours to do setup). But the setup was still done and it was done well. For our main event with more than 1000 guests in attendance, they provided the most pitiful backdrops and decorations. Our theme was greek and they promised columns, and they provided columns that didn't even come up to our waists for our entrance decorations. What is more, the decorations were messy, with chairs ripped and chandeliers falling off. The vines that they twisted around the venue pillars were messily and hastily done as well. When we called them out on it, they ignored our calls. They avoided our emails, texts, and multiple efforts to contact them. I had my sister call Bilal on a different number, and she was firm, but not only was he unprofessional and rude, but also hung up on her, claiming she 'assaulted' him. Excuse her for not letting him walk all over her and talk over her. I am the client and I paid them to do a service, and if they did not deliver, I expect some form of reimbursement. She said as much and their side got very defensive and even blocked us. What followed was a series of picture justifications nitpicking at different excuses to avoid their taking responsibility for any of the mishaps. First they claimed we didn't give them access to the venue for over 2 hours and when we showed them proof, they changed their argument. Very early on, my photographer had mentioned that these guys had a bad reputation within the communities that she had photographed for. I had brushed her off, saying that I had really good initial experiences with them (they were super nice at the first meeting), but that thought completely changed once I gave them all the money. For those thinking about hiring Sheila Burki Designs, I would strongly reconsider. They are arrogant, rude, and do not give the type of service that they promise their clients. They charge pretty high prices (and in full upfront before the actual event) and then screw you over and blame the entire thing on you. If they can't find a fault in you, they'll blame your caterers or venues or other items and will deflect responsibility at all costs instead of working with integrity and giving respect to their clients. They are petty and will disrespect you and argue with you on every detail, so I would first consider talking to them and figuring out whether you want to entrust such a big life event in the hands of people who can't even do business as professionals, let alone have a adult-like discussion where both parties openly talk about what went wrong. In all the conversations we had with them, they kept throwing insults and telling us to look up words, which is no way to talk to a person, let alone a customer. They were also one of the only decorating services that asked for all the money up front. If you don't have any other option but to book them, I would recommend paying half before and half after the services have been delivered so you dont lose thousands of dollars like i did. I hope my review will help someone save the loss that we faced. There are a million and one amazing wedding decorators in Houston who can provide the same level of décor and beauty at your event and still stay in your budget, who will also respect your time and money. Save yourself the energy and money and do not book anything with them! They didn't finish half the work we paid them to decorate our wedding for. A wedding is something so special and as a bride it was horrific to see my wedding decor not even half done. You pay so much and they didn't do anything they'd promise. Sheila and Bilal were so attentive throughout my entire event planning process. They really listened to my vision and emphasized it 10 times more! Sheila was so calming and made sure I was not stressed at all for my décor. The staff came on time, set up everything up properly and take down was easy breezy. I literally did not have to worry about anything when it came to their responsibilities being my vendor. I heard about Sheila through other friends who have hired her for their events , they raved about her style and chic taste in décor. Bilal was prompt and responsive to my emails whenever I needed to communicate with them. We hired Sheila Burki Designs to decorate for our reception. Lets start from the very beginning: When we first initiated contact with Sheila Burki, response from them was extremely slow. We felt as if we were more of a burden to them than anything else. And despite the negative feedback we received from friends of ours as well as the owner of the hall where we had our reception about Sheila Burki, we still decided to move forward with them. When we finally explained to them what we wanted and did not want through emails and picture exchanges, we finally received our quote. Fast forward to reception day. Sheila Burki told us they needed 5 hours to set-up the decorations. They were given access to the hall by 12 PM on the day of the reception. They did not show up until after 1:00 PM. When my wife and I arrived at the hall at 5:00 PM for family pictures, the decorations were not complete. There were two side chairs missing (when we asked their employee where the chairs were he looked so confused and had to call Bilal to find out what we were talking about, they finally brought it to us by 6:00 PM after guests already started walking in), there was candles everywhere when we specifically asked for no candles, the stage was dirty (clearly from the decorators setting up, but they didn't bother to clean it after they were done), the glass stands along the isle had filthy sticky spots all over them and the biggest thing was that our stage decoration looked different from what we wanted. Their excuse was that the stage was too small to fit what we wanted. Sheila Burki has worked at the hall before so they clearly knew the size. If they felt that the decorations we had requested would not be a good fit, they should've notified us right away but they decided to their own thing. When we contacted Sheila Burki after the reception to point out our disappointment with their service they ignored our email. When I sent them another email threatening to leave negative reviews, they responded back within an hour. Their response was, for a lack of a better word, pathetic. They blamed their shortcomings on on everyone else but themselves. They did not accept blame at all for anything. I responded to their email and responded to every excuse they made for the issues we had. They have yet to respond to that email. I would suggest anyone thinking of hiring Sheila Burki to strongly reconsider. They are arrogant and unprofessional. Might as well spend your money elsewhere. read more

I hired Sheila Burki to do the decorations for my daughter's 1st birthday/Baptism party for about 100 guests. When I initially contacted them they told me even though it was not a wedding they could still work with me. During the whole process their repose time was very poor, but because I had seen their work at another wedding I still wanted to go through working with them. We finalized on a budget with Bilal and then I requested a meeting with Sheila. At the previous wedding I saw their work, I had heard from the groom and bride that they changed up the entire layout of the reception the very last minute and did not redo the tables so some of the immediate family ended up being in the back of the reception hall. When I met with Sheila she seem great, and showed me different types of things they had done and we went through all the details and finalized every small detail. A few days before the event she emailed me to ask for pictures of what I wanted and the location of the event, again. I immediately emailed her all the details. The day of the event I did not see them coming to set up at the time they told me. When I texted Bilal, he informed me the set up had already began for one hour. That is when he realized they went to the wrong location. They ended up coming to the right location and had everything set up, but not the way we had discussed. Half the table cloths were not the ones I paid for and decided on with Sheila. The dessert table was suppose to have hanging greenery but it only had hydrangeas. We did not want any candles on any of the tables .. they were not allowed at the venue. They put 4 to 5 candles on every single table, so I had to personally blow them all out before the event started. The tulle I wanted wrapped around the balloons were not there either. Also the fact that after they went to the wrong hall to set up, we had to stay after the time I booked the hall for to help them clean up because they did not come to break down on time. These are the only big things I wanted to mention in the review. There were other details that they did not do as I had decided together with Sheila when I went for the meeting and was listed on my invoice. I emailed them regarding my concerns and have not heard anything back to date. I really would not recommend this company. Although when they put in effort they can create really nice events, the stress of the lack of communication and fear that they will not deliver what you pay for or discussed is not something anyone wants before a large party. read more
