We had a few changes to our "order" before coming in, but they were very accommodating. The studio itself is very clean! I was happy to see pre-packaged and pre-disinfected tools being used, and there was even regular sanitizing. We were all paired up with a stylist who were all very attentive to each of us and so accommodating. Two of my sisters got French manicures and I even noticed that their stylists checked in with them to see if they liked their styles before finishing up their whole hands. One of my sisters and my mother even accidentally smudged their toes when drying, but their stylists also fixed them at no additional charge. Overall, it was such a great experience! Upon arriving, 15 minutes early (I am always early- I can't help it), I was shocked that she took me right away. The man at the front desk (I can't remember his name- sorry!) and Nicole were awesome. They were so helpful and encouraging. Nicole did such a good job too- I've never gotten so many compliments, and I wish I'd gone with this style years ago! I went early afternoon on a weekday, and they had only a few customers. I did make an appointment, but it was pretty short notice. I would recommend (as with most places) making an appointment if you want to minimize your wait time and ensure that you can actually be worked on that day, but they did tell me that they love walk ins. I'm actually not sure if they take credit cards. I want to say no, but that's something I'm going to inquire about the next time I make an appointment. There are a lot of snooty, over-priced salons in downtown Gloucester. Places that don't value their client's time, and think that they know best about your hair or just don't care enough to help you make a decision. Laura & Company is the complete opposite. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the people were very down to earth. I can't wait to go back for another hair appointment, and I hope everyone gives the salon a chance!

I had never been to this salon…read morebefore and I'm desperate to find a new stylist that I can be loyal to :-) I have had some scary experiences (I think a few of them are on yelp!). When I first walked in, I was a little confused. There wasn't a receptionist so I just took a seat, someone came over a few minutes later to greet me. I then waited a few more minutes and a woman came and said she was going to wash my hair and I could have a seat at the wash station. A few initial observations - this place is very small. VERY small. They are also VERY busy so all the chairs were occupied with stylist behind them making things very tight. There are two wash bowls in the middle of the salon. I sat and waited. It was a little awkward. I almost wish she had just let me wait in the seating area. I had my hair washed - very relaxing and nice and then I had to go back over to the seating area and wait for my stylist..it was only a couple of minutes. Jess was my stylist and she didn't introduce herself, I only knew her name because when I made the appointment they said it would be with Jess. So needless to say, we were off to a rocky start. I wasn't feeling super welcome or super comfortable. However, once Jess started talking to me and we had a good conversation going, it was very nice. She was very warm and I was happy feeling I was in good hands. Overall, I was happy with my hair cut. I will be back to see Jess. A few notes about the salon. It was very warm (temperature wise) in there. I was sweating..eww. Also, it's very "swampscott-ish" - meaning the other clients walk around like they own the place and I wouldn't go in there and share "what you heard last night over dinner" because I guarantee someone in there knows someone you are talking about. That would be the only reason I wouldn't go back - which is a shame because I did like my hair, I just didn't necessarily love the environment which is not really the fault of the salon. I decided to go to a lighter shade of brown and she spent so much time explaining how she would achieve the color I was requesting. Naturally I was nervous as to how the color would come out. I was pleasantly surprised at the reveal! She is very knowledgeable and competent and couldn't have been more patient with me. Her prices are very reasonable and the salon is lovely. Highly recommend.

What a joy not to have to travel into the City, find parking, fight traffic to get a world class hair cut and color. Zagara is a gem right here on the North Shore.
