First Federal Savings Bank

First Federal Savings Bank

I went to these folks for a mortgage after working with several banks on a home purchase…read more I had several poor experiences with other lenders, who will get their own reviews. Nearly all of them tried to load up fees or play around with terms to pump up their own bottom line outside of agreed upon parameters. First Federal was the exception in that respect, as they adhered to the agreed upon terms through closing. First Federal was fast with review and turnaround time. They kept their promises in terms of timetable. They did not make any attempt to change terms or load up garbage fees as the process moved along. The loan officer was great. Fast, always polite, always helpful and kept on top of things. In short they handled everything as professionally as possible with no surprises. I would, and will, go back to them for a mortgage again. Rates/fees are very competitive and the process was smooth. I can't, at this point, think of anything else they could do to get your business. Update November 2014: I did a refinance on a rental property through First Federal. Again, no issues. My prior loan officer was gone, so I dealt with someone else. Results were basically the same. Rates were competitive, they kept to their terms with no surprises and got us to the closing table quickly on a timeline that worked for me. I'll be using them again. No question, no doubt.

My husband had an IRA with them for over 10 years. Their rates are not comparable to other banks so when it was up he wanted to transfer it. He was told (and I was a witness) there was no fee as long as we had a transfer letter from the other bank. We got the letter to them and low and behold the manager calls my husband and says there is a $30.00 fee. I don't even think he made $30.00 on the IRA over the course of the last 10 years! Wow, way to do business First Federal, can't compete with rates so charge your customers to make up for it!

First off, if I could give ZERO stars, I would. My advice? Stay away. Yes it's a beautiful area BUT…read moreI didn't pay attn to any of the screens as I moved in during autumn. All of 'em were ripped to shreds by my first spring. Very low quality here. In less than 4 years, had to completely replace the microwave. Home was built in '06 so Lowes doesn't even make the same model anymore. Had to get a new water heater the first month, The ceiling fan in the living room stopped working suddenly and of course it's on the highest ceiling. Bought new batteries for the remote. Nothing. Bought a new remote. Nothing. Bought a new wifi system that controls the remote when placed inside the fan. Nothing. Maybe the entire fan needs replacement? Wouldn't be so bad if not for hanging from thee most inconvenient locale. Not doin' it anyway. Bought a tower fan for the room. It is IMPOSSIBLE to regulate the temperature in this place and trust me, your heating & electric bills WILL reflect this fact season after season. Had to close up the fireplace because the air blower stopped working suddenly. That's a $600 fix. Not doin' it. Mind you, there are no little kids or dogs tearing up the place. It's just me. My regular oven under my range mysteriously quit working last week. Can't figure it out because all the burners & other controls work. For a single gal, it's just too many bullshit problems and I'm on a fixed income. The tap water here is so extremely chlorinated and it dries up your skin terribly, not to mention it ruins your laundry, especially the whites. I had to replace the entire guts to all three toilets here due to the corrosive water - twice! Four years people. Besides your mortgage you will have TWO (2) HOA fees. The community center fee was originally $59/mo when I bought 4 years ago. It is now $80/mo (up by 60% or, 15% per year) and the Association fee was originally $165/mo but is now $189/mo (up by 60% or, 15% per year). They refuse to combine these fees too. You have to write two separate checks to two separate companies for your two separate monthly HOA's that WILL go up by 15% every year (or more!) until the "board" decides otherwise. What? - Why 15%? It doesn't really matter because I don't think either HOA has ever been challenged. Oh and if you happen to bounce a check ONCE to them, they will force you to pay by money order or cashiers check for the rest of your life here. They won't take cash, debit or credit cards. It's ridiculous and meant to demean you. Don't forget, you're paying for your own trash removal and water too; these are NOT included in your HOA's. Plus of course all of the other usual utilities. You won't like it here unless you're the "Mr. Fixit" type and have lots of excess time and cash in hand to burn. Don't bother EVER going to the pool. If they happen to be open, it will be over-capacity with little kids. They close access to the pool for odd reasons at the last minute as well. Hard to plan anything with those hours. Lastly, I truly wish there was a convenient store within the community that was within walking distance as they do not allow golf carts here. I'm too disabled to peddle a bike but the board only wants to collect fees. Cheap, low-quality homes with high uncapped fees and very false promises. I can NOT wait to get outta here quite frankly.

Have lived here 10 years. Poor property management. H.O.A. fees have only gone up. Fees in 2010:…read more$56/mo. Fees today 2016: $74/mo. Used to invite family and friends to enjoy the pool with us in the summer. Now Foster Premier and the Board of Directors want to charge $5/guest per day. This is insane. They do not know how to manage the budget nor the facilities. On several occasions the pool can not be used because of heater issues. The pool should be tested and prepared in April so that it is ready when it opens for the season on Memorial Day. William L.

We were in the market for our first home and I was given her name by the VP of a well respected local bank's mortgage division. From the moment we met I could tell she had a great personality and was incredibly driven - she made it clear she'd do whatever she needed to do to find us the perfect home in our price range, despite the competitive market. She made herself available for as many showings as we needed and used her network and the private MLS to eventually find us a perfect home that had not currently listed on the public market yet. With her help we were able to submit a competitive offer and secure a home well within our budget before our apartment lease was up. The sale went quickly and smoothly and she was there to guide us every step of the way, providing excellent vendor recommendations and advice. It should come as no surprise that we reached out again when we needed to sell our home after unexpectedly finding out we were pregnant in late 2024. Whitney walked us through the selling process, gave us great insight on how to maximize interest in the property and provided all the tools we needed to ensure it showed beautifully and got us top dollar. In fact, our house sold again on the private market due to her tips within just a few days of listing that it was coming soon. We credit her with helping us choose a solid house that held its resale value and even appreciated over the short time we were in it (with minimal maintenance needed.) Closing was quick and easy and I credit Whitney with making our first home purchase/sale experiences as seamless as possible. I would 1000% recommend Whitney to anyone needing a home - she is top notch and will go out of her way to advocate for her clients to ensure they get exactly what they need out of their purchase and/or sale. You're the best, Whitney! We can't thank you enough and are glad to have met you! Our housing guardian angel!

AMY PREAVES of Crystal Lake stands out as one of the very best I have ever seen. I have had the pleasure now of working with 2 of her clients, and I have to say she was just the sweetest and most hard-working realtor for both of them. She will go out of her way to make sure everything runs so smoothly. Recently, I had a problem with one of her client's garage codes not working properly. I CALLED AMY FOR HELP WITH THE CODE BUT INSTEAD SHE RAN FROM HER OFFICE TO HER HOME GRABBED ANOTHER KEY AND RAN ALL THE WAY TO HER CLIENTS HOME TO HELP IN THE MIDDLE OF HER BUSY SCHEDULE. She truly is amazing. If you're looking to sell or buy a home I would highly recommend Amy. She is absolutely amazing!!
