The house is very 70's (think "Brady Bunch" house), so I want to go with a Barbarella vibe (if you have no idea who/what Barbarella is - friends off!). My husband, who has fully embraced my Asian heritage, wants to go full on "Farewell My Concubine". As you can imagine, this house is going to be a schizophrenic hot tranny mess. I can't wait! In one of our attempts to try to mesh our divergent and eclectic visions, we decided to take a look at some Turkish/Moroccan chandeliers for our dining room...and I remembered this adorable store in Tacoma Park. The Covered Market is a Turkish lighting *dream*. I have no idea what any of these things are called, but it was like a rainbow glass mosaic of *awesome*. In addition, the sales lady (manager? owner?) was so incredibly sweet and nice as we plagued her with 50000000 questions about colors, sizes and ridiculous needs (these mosaic balls, with that ring, but of that length, etc etc etc). Heh. And the prices weren't that bad. Yes, the chandelier we ultimately decided upon will be $500+, but we were pretty insane in what we asked for...so I'm quite sure we're the exception...not the rule. Super cute and I can't wait to figure out where to put the other hanging light that I spied. Shhhhhh...don't tell my husband...he doesn't know yet. Heh.

This store has been open for more than a year and I can't believe me and my credit card haven't found this place earlier. This store is the cutest boutique I have been to in DC! Whether you're looking for a gift for a young women in your life, or looking to expand your wardrobe, a trip to Petworth will definitely pay off!! If you like brands like YA and Tulle, this is the place to go. There are no shortages of cute dresses and tops, with affordable prices (it's also the least expensive boutique I have been to). They also have one rack of vintage clothing, that's all in good shape and look repurposed. I tend to not wear vintage clothes, not cause I am a snob, only because people from the past were really really thin and my modern day thighs won't fit a thing here, but if you're lucky and thin, don't pass this rack by. I nearly dragged in half a rack of clothing into the dressing room with me, and thanks to Lia who reminded me of exactly how many striped dresses I own I walked away with only a cute peplum top for $26( https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=529507513830592&set=a.150739758374038.31207.127311010716913&type=1&theater) which looks like nothing I own and perfect for going out. Lia however did not remind me of my polka dot addiction, and I also walked away with a set of four tiny vintage cute ceramic bowls in red and white polka dot pattern. I know this is a clothing boutique mainly, but definitely if you find yourself in here do not overlook the vintage homewares. Cute plate sets (4 for $19), ring holders and ceramic casserole dishes are everywhere. It's like cute Anthropologie stuff without the inflated nonsense prices. The owner who was completely delightful invited us back for a 30% off event party, which is timed perfectly with my next payday. Coincidence? I think not.

However, recently I had a few not-so-good interactions with them that left a bad after taste. I liked a pair of earrings (4.3 grams) so I asked for price. The owner said $395 including gold weight, labor, rhodium, etc. Still, $395 is a lot for 4.3g even considering other factors mentioned above. Anyway, I left that day and came back another day when gold prices dropped a little, hoping for a lower price. The owner dismissively said $525. She gives prices on a whim without any reason. Anyway, I had the same design custom made from another shop for a lot less $255. I went back to see current designs, and they just acted very awkward. Oh well, her loss of a good customer.
