I go to Lifetime because it's the only gym in a 50 mile radius that seems to have an indoor/outdoor pool, racquetball courts, steam room and sauna. I go for thr amenities. For access to those amenities I pay about $120/month for the couples membership. If I didn't care about those amenities I would just give plant fitness $10 bucks a month. I have no illusions about what I am getting for that cost. But make no mistake, this is not a "luxury" gym, and you won't get the Frasier Crane experience. You certainly don't get anything close to the service you would expect from a gym with this cost of membership. It's a pathetically managed and dirty gym with rude staff and no desire or ability to enforce any of the rules. My wife and I joined about 3 months ago. The first thing I noticed was that 5 out of 6 of the front desk staff have the social skills of a trained monkey. Most of them can't even muster a hello. They are often engaged in conversation with one another and they don't break that conversation for so much as eye contact and a simple greeting. They just wave the scanner over your card and continue talking about their new Tesla or meal replacement shakes.. or whatever it is they're celebrating at that moment. There's one gentleman who works the front desk from time that is the only exception. There are very basic rules of etiquette at this gym, as there are at any other gym, however they're not enforced. Sadly the spectrum of members runs the gambit from pre teens who lounge on equipment like jungle-jims to meatheads who think they're training for the Mr. Olympia Contest and grunting loudly through every set while "looking around to see who is looking at them, looking at you, looking at them, to see if they are looking at you.." before they eventually slam the weights to the ground in spartan-like exhaustion. Mind you, there are signs all over the gym that instruct members to follow some simple rules, like don't slan weights or clean the equipment after use.. but the staff is clearly too timid or useless to enforce any of it. Other irritating but commonplace occurrences are members sitting around on equipment while staring at their phone for 30 minutes without performing a set during peak hours. As well as "supersetting" or occupying multiple pieces of equipment during peak hours. NOBODY cleans their equipment after use at this gym. We joined during the height of covid when masks were required, however there were always a handful of members who refused to wear a mask. I will admit, my wife and I have never been hardcore supporters of masks throughout this pandemic, however where masks were mandated we always wore them. We are not the type of people to blatantly disregard rules in establishments where rules are in place. We do not seek out or invite conflict. So while I don't love wearing a mask, I do so when necessary. And I expect establishments that mandate these policies to enforce them ACROSS THE BOARD. This was not the case at Lifetime. While the staff always wore theirs as required, there were many ocassions when someone who refused to wear theirs would literally walk right up to a staff and start a dialogue, and that staff could not muster the cajones to confront the member on their refusal to wear a mask. The icing on the cake was when the mask mandate was finally lifted last month and we received an email notifying us of the changes. The email explained that masks will no longer be mandated, but don't worry Lifetime will be (and I am paraphrasing here) "continuing to maintain its unparalleled level of cleanliness and sanitation efforts.." (something to that effect). Well let me offer you two photographs that will tell you everything you need to know about this unparalleled level of cleanliness..

Update after going there for a few months. First review was after just a couple classes. Then the…read moretruth came out. They are definitely committing fraud with the No Show fees. They tried to charge me once for a class I was present for and I threw a fit and they refunded me. They subsequently tried it again another time, but I had started checking on the app after every class that they had checked me in, and I went to the desk and asked them to check me in as they hadn't after class. The lady looked at me as I told her my name, she pretended to check me in on the computer and I refreshed my app to make sure she did and she had not. I told her for the third time to check me in and she finally did. That is not a mistake. If I hadn't paid attention, they would have stolen a lot of money from me. After my experience, I informed my friends to make sure they check their accounts and between 3 other people that I went with, they charged 11 no show fees that they refused to refund when the girls were present for every class. That's $165 stolen just from people I know. I can only imagine how much they are making stealing from everyone who doesn't regularly check their accounts. If you don't check your bank account, they WILL (probably already have) steal from you. I have reported them to the FTC for the fraud. They are not certified to train anyone. Their certification consists of 7 hours. I am a certified yoga instructor and I spent 6 months of being in class for 24 hours every other weekend. I also have ti be CPR certified, which their staff is definitely not. My friend had a heat stroke there which landed her in the hospital and the staff did absolutely nothing to help her when she was passed out in the lobby. A fellow, good samaritan CLIENT took it upon herself to run and get her cold towels and offer to call 911 while the staff stood by and watched from afar and ignored the situation. Ultimately the kind woman called my friend's husband to get her and take her to the ER. My friends and I immediately cancelled our memberships. My $400 sunglasses were stolen from there. But other than that, it's great! I can't imagine this outfit lasts too long with their shady business model and incompetent "teachers."

The ownership is terrible. Instructors and employees are great. It's a shame…read more The front door has been broken for 6 months. One evening I was the last client to leave and totally panicked because I could not open the door to get out. A mirror panel has been broken for 4+ months with painters tape as what appears to be their long term solution. The studio has added a tacky lights strip put up rather than prioritizing the safety of instructors and clients by replacing the mirror and door properly.

Keep in mind that they have very limited parking at the building, and reserve this for those who have a physical need to park close by. Otherwise you are encouraged to park on the street or in the lots near the bike trail and walk the short 1-1.5 blocks to the studio. Take the wood stairs up to the second floor. You can hang your coat and leave your shoes in the room straight ahead as you enter. They have a really great selection of interesting classes, workshops, and events. They are also very affordable, so keep up with their calendar online! It's clear that this studio is fostering inclusion and community. You can of course drop in for a single class, but many of their offerings are designed as a series. This means you can buy a package, and make a commitment to yourself to attend regularly and get to know the people around you each week. The space does truly feel like a sanctuary, and I like that they seek to hold the space for you to be as you are today. The teachers are there, with openness and honesty, studying together with you. I believe in their stated purpose to promote well-being, self-awareness, and spiritual transformation. This is not your typical yoga-gym, and for that I love it!

Instructions at the Mason studio are helpful and correcting is always done in a positive way. Their retail is open for anyone and they offer a cute selection of good workout gear. Most studios offer a first class free so you can try it out. They have a more cardio centric option, a strength option plus classic barre. This gives you the ability to vary your workout. Going to barre 3-4 times a week had me in the best shape of my life. Body weight, isometric and challenging but also able to modify for your ability and any health challenges. And don't let the name fool you, there are dedicated male clients too and barre is a great strength, flexibility workout. As a mid-size woman, I am extremely comfortable in these classes. I was a little nervous going in that I would be on the bigger side there and expected 'ballerina bodies' being the predominant figure there - but there are women of all shapes, sizes, and ages! This is truly a welcoming environment for all and the instructors and fellow members are all very kind. The workout is definitely on the intense side but there are lots of modifications that you can do to make it easier or harder depending on your fitness level. There is great music and such a great vibe and if you're looking for a great workout studio - look no further than Pure Barre Mason!
