I've been a member of Life Time Fitness for several years now and I have to say this location is... interesting. Located on the 9th floor of the One Chicago building near Magnificent Mile. To gain access into the club you can either walk in from the main lobby floor of One Chicago and take the elevator up to the 9th floor and that's where the club entrance is. There's only two elevators, during rush hour times there is often a line just to go up or down. You could take the stairs but who wants to climb 9 levels? That alone is a workout! Once you're inside the club there's 2 floor levels. The first floor has the check-in lobby, cafe, bar, locker rooms, rooftop pool and spa. The second level has all the workout equipment, cardio, and studio rooms for workout classes. I wasn't a big fan of the layout, it's kind of all over the place. Got a chance to take a Warrior Sculpt class with Taylor and it was awesome! One of the best sculpt classes I've ever had. I've seen some reviews complain about issues with the staff being rude but I honestly did not encounter any of that. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Oh and one last thing! This Life Time is open 24 hours! That's something I've never seen before, not even in NYC. That's a major win. read more

I don't write reviews lightly, especially negative ones, but this location deserves honest feedback. I've been a Life Time member on and off since I was a kid, starting in the suburbs of Houston. I've belonged in multiple cities, used LifeWork spaces, spent thousands per year on personal training, and countless dollars on spa services. By any definition, I'm a high-utilization, loyal customer and a genuine fan of the brand. The Chicago River North location is the biggest disappointment I've had with Life Time. From the start, the experience was poor. When I first toured before relocating to Chicago, the front desk manager rushed me through the building as if it were on fire--no real explanation, no attempt to sell the experience, no hospitality. That should have been a warning sign. Within my first two visits, I had two items stolen: A $370 pair of Sony in-ear headphones (gone after stepping away for under five minutes to get water) A $225 Canada Goose toque, taken from a bench while I briefly stepped on the scale These were not misplaced--they were stolen. That speaks volumes about the environment and lack of oversight. Beyond that, the club is consistently overcrowded, dirty, and disorganized, and staff interactions are largely unhelpful. For a gym positioned as a premium urban location, it simply does not meet the standard Life Time sets elsewhere. The spa experience is especially underwhelming. At Houston locations like Green Street and The Woodlands, you're greeted, given robes and slippers, sometimes offered a beverage, and allowed to change in a calm, elevated environment. River North offers none of that. It feels far closer to a Massage Envy than the resort-style experience Life Time markets and charges for. The final straw: when I called to cancel and asked to speak with the General Manager to share feedback, my membership was canceled before anyone reached out, asked what went wrong, or attempted to retain me. For a brand built on experience and loyalty, that was shocking. I've now joined Equinox--something I didn't want to do, as it's not a full-service gym--but this location left me no choice. Life Time is a great brand. This location is not. If you're considering River North, manage your expectations--or look elsewhere. read more

$400+ mo rates (as a founding member. New folks can expect $500+) and they can't even figure out their parking lot situation. It's $5.75 for members (despite the criminally high membership dues) and are now raising it again due to some change to their pay gates. This change is so confusing half the people don't even know how to exit the garage and on multiple occasions the plate reader misread my plates or tried charging me like $60 because the ticket wasn't properly validated. I'm trying to get a workout in, not trying to troubleshoot your disastrous parking lot. On that note, half the gym is occupied by group classes, making it difficult paying members to even touch a squat rack. read more

The gym itself is OK. Nothing special and not too much to complain about. However the parking and elevators in this building are ridiculous. Slow and often not functioning. It takes you a half hour to enter parking lot with their system and park your car and take the elevator to just enter the gym. Worst garage and elevator system in the city of Chicago and I've lived here for 35 years. For a $100, yes one HUNDRED dollar day pass, I cannot say I was impressed. My home Lifetime is light years ahead of this location. The machines have a lot of wear and tear, but the floor is extremely disorganized. There are platforms scattered wherever they will fit. Arm equipment next to leg equipment... it's a jungle to find a machine that matches what you're trying to work out. It took me longer to find the equipment I wanted to use than actual complete my workout. read more

Someone broke into my locker and stole my watch and 2 credit cards. The incompetent employee at the front desk didn't even care are was saying it's impossible to break into the lockers and even asking me if I'm sure I didn't leave my watch at home! I had him come into to locker room to show them that my locker was damaged and then they finally filled an incident form. They have zero empathy and concern and I had to go to the police station to file a report. I've noticed many times in the past where non members will sneak right by the front desk and go straight to the basketball court or locker room. Stay away from this trashy place and don't trust the lockers! I would even drive to the new Evanston location where it feels less sketchy. read more

Paying $500/month at Life Time River North gets you a rooftop shut down at 9:30 pm, no food or drinks, rude service, and ignored complaints -- nowhere near 'premium. For the outrageous prices this gym charges, the service is a joke. The rooftop closes at 9:30 p.m. every night in the middle of summer, food & beverage service is almost never available (no waiters, no drinks), yet members are constantly policed not to bring their own. It feels less like a premium gym and more like a retirement home. Totally inappropriate and not worth the cost. And if management thinks the answer is to cancel my membership rather than address these issues, I'll make sure people know that too. read more

It's beyond ridiculous that parking isn't included. If you workout 5 days a week, the parking is $120/month making a gym membership well over $500/month for one person. I get it, I need to just be rich and I'm not but it's bonkers that LA Fitness can offer free parking on a $16/month membership (2 years/$400) but Life Time couldn't figure out something for $329/month. I was desperate for a 24 hour gym with a pool since Xsport closed so I'm giving this a try but it's not THAT much nicer than the old Xsport locations other than the pool/sauna/hot tub reliably works. The people are lovely, the premises well kept but - again - there's still towels all over the locker room and discarded razors in the showers and stuff by the end of the day. Would love to see them open one down by McCormick Place where parking is easier to find just to make it more affordable. I'd much rather have free parking than any classes. Would be cool to see them get creative with amenities. read more

This review is based only on my rooftop pool experience here but WOW was it perfect!!! Even if you are not a lifetime member you need to come & enjoy the pool, snacks & service if you are looking for a great way to enjoy a hot day. My friends and I rented a cabana for 4 hours and the staff member (Cody) she was communicating with was absolutely exceptional and made sure to come greet us as soon as we arrived to make sure we had everything we wanted. He was so pleasant and friendly!! We ordered seltzers and a few strawberry margaritas (so delicious & refreshing) and had some sushi, buffalo wings, veggies with hummus & their Buffalo chicken pizza on cauliflower crust. Everything was very yummy! I wish I caught our server's name but she was extremely attentive and fun. The pool was a little cold but they had just filled it the day before so- understandable. The hot tubs on the upper deck were awesome as well when the wind got a little chilly. It is very pricey so don't expect to come here on a tight budget but IMO it was so worth it! I normally wouldn't give a 1 star or bad review but I'm dishearten by how bad the experience has gotten at lifetime. I have been coming to lifetime 5-7 days out of the week at the 5pm rush hour for 6 months. First the positive, the staff are very friendly and do a great job to welcome guests. The equipment is very nice and the classes are a great workout. Many members are respectful and kind to one another and the amenities are great! However, LADIES BEWARE!!!!! I have been FOLLOWED at this gym and had videos and photos taken without my consent MULTIPLE times!!! Lifetime has many cameras on the gym floor, but I have yet to see any accountable party be held responsible for such disgusting behavior. Many members will film others/ take pictures of people in the gym without their consent. It is stated in Lifetimes policy that videography and photography are allowed in public areas of the gym, however, prior consent is required by all parties filmed or photographed. Lifetime has done NOTHING to enforce this policy and in response I have felt very UNSAFE. Some members are VERY disrespectful to the gym equipment, staff, and other members. At the 5pm rush hour, the gym is packed and hard to grab a machine or dumbbell. Members will hog 5 weights at a time when they are not using them. Other members will leave their towels everywhere. Many don't clean the machines or yoga mats (which now smell like sweaty feet all the time). This membership is not worth it and I will be revoking mine soon if lifetime continues to not uphold their policies and hold members accountable. read more

I've been going to Lifetime through my GymPass (Wellness Hub) benefit through work and it has been great! The location of this gym is great with it being right downtown, but I know this makes parking tricky for people driving in. The inside of the building is well kept and has a great smell, lol. The women's locker room is always being cleaned, and I feel very safe there! I enjoy the sauna + jacuzzi, with it never having maintenance issues. The classes are all great- I've tried the MaxOut ones, Barre, Yogas, dance, GTX (which is like Orange Theory) and Alpha (being the hardest). They have SO many options so you can't ever get bored! I also workout on the gym floor and the only time I ever get annoyed with LifeTime is around 5pm, when the gym floor is really too crowded. I just try to go a bit earlier around 4 to beat the rush. I trained at this gym in 2023. I really liked the amenities. However, I had an issue with my personal trainer, Ali. I left a review on Google about my experience, but it was removed. One day, I asked Ali how I could reduce fat on my back. He told me, "It's because of your race." What the hell does race have to do with it? He then claimed my body fat was too high and that I was overweight, even though I only weighed about 105 pounds. He insisted his English wasn't great because he'd only been in the U.S. for a year. Does that mean he's been discriminating against my race from his culture for years? When I complained, he'd flood me with ChatGPT-generated messages, thinking that would be enough to cover his tracks. It's been over a year now, and I'm still furious. I can't forgive behavior like that. read more

Heads up! I kindly tried to notify the front desk that people were still bypassing the parking garage without paying. Immediately the friendly woman that greets me happily every day suddenly changed her demeanor and became defensive. Her reply was the parking garage is not lifetimes problem. I replied well if it isn't your problem why are their notifications on the lifetime app saying they are aware of people not paying and they are looking into it. I wasn't mentioning this to get a free membership, I simply wanted them to know it's continuing to happen. Now every time I walk past the front desk I have to encounter her and damn she made that awkward and uncomfortable for absolutely no reason. I'm trying to brush off the interaction and just assume she's having a difficult day but she was kind of rude, totally unexpected. read more

I really don't get this place and why people think it's so amazing. I recently went on the tour at this facility to explore membership options. I made an appointment and showed up on time. The staff checked me in and then we waited for 20 mins to someone to show us around. After asking how much longer a few times, we had what I would only describe as a rushed tour. Great looking facility but the staff acting like it's a privilege to be there is a huge turn off. I would recommend they retrain their staff on customer service. $175 a month for 1 person to go work out is something that sounds bizarre to me. Equinox is where I will stay. read more

Absolutely fantastic! The gym is so clean, so well maintained, and so well staffed. To say nothing of its state-of-the-art equipment. What struck me most was the welcoming, friendly, and positive attitudes of the employees. I hesitate to use this word though, instead I see them as future friends. It's hard to believe that an "Alpha" running coach, in the middle of her session, makes time to shout out a friendly and welcoming hello as I peeked in. I'm appreciative that I'm warmly recognized as I walk to my class. I'm grateful that my tour guide (hi Sam!) remembers me on my nervous first day. How many people must they see in a day's work? And, to say nothing of the proverbial red carpet as you approach the check-in desk! Just wow! The men's room (sorry ladies, you'll have to wait for a female Yelp'er to get her opinion!) is nicely maintained, well stocked, and regularly cleaned/mopped. The saunas, hot tub, and cold tub are simply beyond top-notch. The lockers are bigger than average (would like to have a shelf at the bottom for shoes but, hey, maybe later? Hint to the Team!). There are tons of classes (reservations HIGHLY recommended), acres of workout space, and plenty of machines. The non-studio spin bikes "Stages Solo" record your workouts. Nice! Rumor has it the studio spin bikes also link to your "Stages Solo" account but I have not yet seen that. My spin instructor (hi Rebecca!) starts her classes on time and keeps you motivated throughout. The cafe is a lovely setting with made-to-order salads, delish sandwiches, and a well-stocked 'frig for fast grab-n-go items. It is a nice place to decompress. Sarah and her team are just lovely and welcoming, more than happy to present a tasty meal. The mocha shakes are the bomb! :-) LifeTime offers classes that other places charge for so that's a compelling offer on its own. Monetarily a membership is not an inexpensive endeavor. But, honestly, given all the offerings, assuming we take advantage of all its classes, sessions, and opportunities, we could do far worse and not much better. Between one of them not working frequently and just the congestion it's not worth the effort anymore. I went on a tour recently, I was not impressed at all, the place is nice with lots of amenities but most not included in the $279 a month membership. I work very close to this location and I would if love to join just have a place to relax in the sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool occasionally but the prices are so ridiculous that is not worth it at all and then parking... I also felt not welcomed by the staff.. the guy didn't even put any emphasis or gave me any incentives to join. Disappointing to say the least. read more

It's been ALL GAINS ever since :D (To echo past reviews) 100% - The entire space, from the moment you walk-in is brand spanky new, digitally-enabled, top-of-the-line ... LOVE that the entire facility is so well maintained, orderly and clean! Also, there's a good variety of fitness classes, OH! the whirlpool / steam room / outdoor pool situation - CAN'T GET ENOUGH! Finally, BEST way to treat myself - LifeSpa. Membership isn't mandatory there soWhether you're a member or not, I encourage all my nearest and dears to go ASAP for MASSAGE (deep-tissue sessions w/ Chris are mandatory, every month!) and now, NAILS (Sheila does the absolute best gel mani / pedis!). Has everything you want in a fitness gym, but they have so many members that you have to wait to get on a machine.. unless you come at 5 AM. The age range is around 30 ish. The noise level is so high, that I cannot hear my audio book. The published monthly rate is $290 but my guess is that most people there do not pay that. read more

Arrogant front desk. I visited the pool deck today for the second time. It's pricy but can be a nice experience for a summer day in the middle of the city. However, I was quite disappointed in the way I was treated by the guy at check-in. First, he advised that the club doesn't allow people to enter the "Beach Club" on a one day pass. This isn't true and I confirmed it via chat with Lifetime's customer service. You can indeed buy entry for $100 on top of the guest pass. But he acted like he was doing me a huge favor to "let me go in for today since there weren't many people there". As he was ringing up my $150 transaction, he interrupted to help some other people. And he then said he'd make a note in my account that we'd had this conversation (in other words, "don't come back"). Very arrogant. Very rude. I suggest this company train staff on advertised policies as well as general customer service. I will not be paying $150 again to be treated as if I'm inferior. read more

It's new. That is it. This gym is constantly busy. "Busy," as in, you will have to wait for equipment, squat racks, stair masters, treadmills... whatever you need. You will wait. Gym etiquette is not encouraged, even amongst the trainers. A lot of the trainers (not all) seem very unhappy, and it is unfortunate to see the poor form they allow with their clients (or perhaps they aren't really paying attention, because they're busy filming for Instagram). This contributes to the overall feeling that Lifetime is not a gym where members go to actually train. It is place where people go to get away from their roommates, maybe take a class or two, study for school in the cafe, or film OF and Instagram content. In any event, it is more of a scene than it is a gym. If you're looking for a place to train, this isn't it. If you have a lot of time on your hands, can't afford to leave the city, and are looking for a place to be seen, head over to Lifetime at One Chicago! UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO "OWNER RESPONSE": I have provided this feedback on numerous occasions, as have many others. The only change has been extra mirrors and a rearranged gym floor. The mirrors are a nice touch but no truly meaningful improvements. read more

Great location, even better staff! Traveling the nation for work, I have been to many gyms. I can honestly say this Life Time took my breath away. You do not feel like you walked into a gym, you feel like you walked into an oasis that will improve you health. Right off the elevator, the warming staff are there to greet you and ensure you have what you need. The facilities are ALWAYS working, the equipment is NEVER broken, and there is more than enough workout equipment for even the busiest of times. I have never been one for group fitness after the military but the instructors (performers) here are absolutely the best. They motivate you, they bring you energy, and they have you coming back for more. Huge shoutout to Emma G and Peter E! If I am free and they are leading- I will be in class! I could go broke with the Life Time Cafe and Bar. The food is amazing, the drinks are phenomenal (and healthy), and the staff always smile! After a couple classes and a gym sesh, relax time is needed. Having had more than a few massages in my time, I can say that the Life Time Spa in downtown Chicago definitely has some of the most highly trained and highly skilled therapist. From the moment you walk in, the staff are kind and attentive to your needs. The atmosphere is relaxing with an incredible view of the city as you wait. The rooms are very clean, organized, and quiet. Shout out to Abraham, hands down one of the best massages ever. I will ensure to book with him every time I can! read more
