I can't believe I didn't visit this gym when it first opened a few years ago. Our gym, Lifestyle Family Fitness, was recently bought by Lifetime. Though the deal initially left us sour, once we visited Lifetime, we were hooked. Walking in, the energy of the place is readily apparent. I love the HUGE pools, hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms, locker rooms, rock climbing wall, cardio weights area, classrooms, pretty much everything! Even when the place is busy (which seems to be all the time) I still have no problem choosing which equipment I'd like to use. Though I haven't used the trainers there and don't plan to, they seem upbeat and energetic. I love the Life Cafe - I recommend the Orange Sunburst smoothie post-workout - and eventually I'll try the salon. The price is more expensive - $50.95 a month for each member that transferred from Lifestyle - going up to $70.95 a month per member next year - whereas at Lifestyle it was $20.95 a month. As a couple, the cost is $110 per month and I think the family package is $120 per month. Yes, the price is steep, but for what you get and the energy you feel when you're there, it's totally worth it to me. I can see this being my gym for many years. PS: The downsides my husband mentioned are: the weight area has carpet instead of rubber (?) floors and there isn't a Hammerstrength shoulder machine he likes - just variations of his favorite. That was pretty much all he could think of that's negative to him. I couldn't find anything negative!! Oh, and they don't charge anything in February! read more

I have been 3-4 times since October as a guest, and today I joined because it does have everything. I love having access to a large pool, all of the equipment and then the classes that I can take whenever I want. My membership today cost $105 plus $60 for the first month's fee. I'll then pay $60 every month. There was a special going on--$29 to sign up plus $75 admin fee. Of course I just had to pay for myself--no husband or family are included in that fee. It's soo beautiful and clean and I'm sooo glad I joined. read more

Best gym you will ever go to. Lots of space and it gets used. If you come at a busy time of day the whole parking lot will be packed and yet there are still plenty of open machines and spots left open in classes. They have a plethora of staff that are willing to help you. There is a spa, a salon, a cafe that serves decent food and delicious smoothies. It's the same price as other health clubs that don't have a tenth of what this club has to offer. If you are serious about working out, or not, this is the place. read more

I do really like this gym. it's clean and orderly. Lockers are a bit of a pain at times! As well as the muscle heads that take up way to much time chatting but overall the best gym around. read more

By far the best gym I have ever been a member of. It may cost more but there are no add on for towels, lockers or classes. The place is always clean. I have left gyms because I could not stomach the showers. The indoor spas are great after a good work out. With indoor and outdoor pools you can swim year round. Don't use the cafe much but have only heard good things. read more

This is by far the best gym I have ever been to. I travel all over the U.S. for work, and begrudgingly workout along the way. This gym however made me EXCITED to workout. It's open, airy, clean, and has so many machines. It's very difficult to get bored with your workout here....if you do, take a class.....or use their gorgeous pools! Not only was the workout area top-notch, but the post workout steam room was such a bonus. I highly recommend....and miss this gym! read more

-- Shady Management and Membership Policy -- First, to be fair, the gym is spacious and offers a wide range of facilities, from weight training, cardio, yoga, group classes etc. They have several nice personal trainers too. However, I felt that I am obliged to share my unfortunate experience to other potential users: I was staying in Cary for several weeks for work last year, and was looking for a gym. Was initially looking at day passes, but my sales manager, Mr Manuel Suarez, convinced me that a 1-month membership would work out cheaper, as long as I terminate the membership before a certain date. So I joined and used the gym, which was pretty decent. And of course, I went to the manager to terminate my membership well before the said deadline. The office that handled paperwork was closed at that time, so he said the documents and receipts would be sent to me later. Several months later, to my surprise, I discovered that they were still billing my credit card for the monthly membership fee. I emailed Mr Suarez, and he replied, "I do recall the situation, I will look into it and get it resolved". Another month went by, and the membership fee of the following month continued to appear on my credit card bill. (i.e. a total of FIVE months's fee for what was meant to be a 1-month membership). Apparently, Mr Suarez had once again forgotten to follow up on his paperwork. Again, I emailed Mr Suarez and the customer service. After many lengthy emails, they finally "recalled" that I had terminated the membership, and admitted that they have somehow got the cancellation documents missing, and agreed to refund 2 (out of the 4) months' of erroneous membership fee. I requested for a full refund, and his reply was, "We recall that you cancelled late and thus we will charge you 3 months. Unless you have documentation showing the date you cancelled, we will not refund the rest". This was ridiculous and does not make sense at all. Firstly, they did NOT have any documents showing that I cancelled late, obviously because they had actually lost all the documents. And the alleged "late cancellation" was actually physically impossible since I had already left Cary at the time that they "recalled" I terminated my contract. Secondly, how am I supposed to show the documents that they never sent to me because they have lost them? The failure to show documentation proof is obviously the responsibility of LifeTime Fitness and its staff. To date, 9 months after terminating my membership, I still have not received the full refund. My advice: Join Life Time Fitness only if you intend to pay the monthly membership for your "life time" literally! P.S. Interestingly, there is another review of LT here about how LT claimed that a customer had terminated his membership (which did not happen) and requested a "rejoining fee". Really a disappointment. read more

I would give them 4.5 stars if I could since I had a feeling I was in a used car dealership. My salesperson went to ask the manager two times if he can give me a free one week access to the gym. Otherwise, this is one ginormous fitness center that offers just about any activity. Both, personal trainers and group fitness instructors are knowledgable and motivating. They have a good variety of classes, plenty of equipment, pools, beauty salon, cafeteria, kid's area...All in all, there's not another fitness center in town that offers as much for the money. read more

I have been a member of lifetime since it opened in Cary NC. I love the convince and amenities this gym provides. There are numerous classes you can take that are free, along with more exclusive classes you can pay for. They often offer free personal training classes once you have visited the gym a certain number of times. The daycare and classes for children offered throughout the day are another plus. Overall, would recommend this gym. Only downside is it gets very crowded after work hours and can be intimidating for people who are not gym regulars. read more

Unbelievable facility. Well organized weight room so beginners know what machines work on what specific area of your body. Also, they have a wide variety of machines for not only weights but cardio as well. Worth every penny. read more

Overall, a nice gym. Lots of space, lots of machines ect. I love that it is open 24 hours and I don't need to worry about spending only 30 minutes on a machine including at peak hours. Monthly price on par with other gyms I have belonged to and if you time it right (as I did) the joining fee is reasonable. Overall, I would not belong anywhere else. read more

I travel a lot due to my job so I have visited many LT facilities. Cary is a decent place. I think it is a Gold facility. Not as nice as some of the newest platinum locations. Pluses are nice outdoor pool for lap swimmers. Cafe for healthy food. Good selection of fitness equipment. Minuses are the water pressure at the sinks are low, no free q-tips or razors, so bring your own. read more

Well all I can say is that they are Harsh. Even though I have been a member for like three years they milk you for every penny and when you inquire as to why they don't make you aware of expensive membership status changes (when you havent been there in over a year) Harsh (which is there customer service managers name) roundly accuses you of lying to him. Whatever, Harsh you can keep my money if its so important to your corporation to be paid for providing nothing and bullying clients read more

Overall, Lifetime Fitness is a great gym. My company pays part of my monthly membership, so I get to enjoy the facilities at a great price. There are plenty of machines, and I have never had to wait for one that I want; of course, this may be because I go at slightly irregular times during the middle of the day. However, I can't give Lifetime four stars because it is slightly overrun by children--and this is coming from a mom of two. My co-workers and I enjoy playing racquetball on our lunch breaks; however, there are only 2 courts for this. Often one of these is occupied by a day camp for kids!!! I'm fairly certain racquetball courts were NOT designed to be daycare centers, and it is frustrating to attempt to reserve a court only to discover it's unavailable due to a camp. It seems Lifetime should have taken this into account and designed an area just for these sessions. That said, it's a great gym overall, and I enjoy it even more once school is in session. I love the locker rooms--there are plenty of lockers, and the shower facilities are top-notch. The Life Cafe is also a great addition--the Very Berry Smoothie is my salvation after an hour of racquetball. Overall, this is the best gym I have ever had the opportunity to attend. read more

I've reviewed this place before and I love it. I am extra excited because I just found out that Lifetime has bought out the two Lifestyle locations in the triangle! This makes the gym more accessible to my house! Good things Lifetime! And for this you go from 4 to 5 stars! read more

Wish I could give it ZERO stars. What a letdown. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY! I LOVE this gym, but we cannot put our children in that HORRIBLE CHILDCARE any longer. It is absolutely awful. They say they are within state limits, but the staff is constantly overwhelmed, children are left alone, staff is under-qualified, ages 2 and up are together (no-no-no - not safe), and older children are allowed in and out of the area with the "toddlers" (be warned parents: as soon as you baby can walk, even if it is 10 months, they are stuck in a huge area with big kids running in and out and areas where the babies cannot be seen by the staff.) Another example: If there are only 2 children in the back basketball area, say a 2 year old with a 9 year old they can be unsupervised as long as there is adequate staff somewhere else in the center. Recipe for disaster! Indoor pool is closed to children in the summer. What about protecting our little ones from the dangerous summer sun? Shame on Lifetime for putting money into everything but our most precious possessions, our children. read more

Wendy Dascoli is an amazing esthetician. She is very professional and knowledgable. She is very warm and professional. Leah, the customer service specialist, has absolutely no customer service skills at all. If you're in the area, definitely go to the Apex location where people are decent humans. Do not get involved with this gym. They are month to month with a typical cancel 30 days before you leave. I sent three emails to them and called them back at the end of November. January 1st I was charged $129 for membership dues. After a bunch of bugging them, Susan finally reimbursed me (as in, the money went back into my bank account). During my talk with Susan, I informed her that I was unemployed and she assured me that I would not be charged again for monthly membership dues. February 2nd, I was charged again. I have left many messages without them being returned. I talked with Busher today and she said that they reimbursed the charges on February 2nd. How did they reimburse me? They credited my account. I definitely don't ever want to go there again so what good is the credit to my account? Even if I did want to go there, I have no money. I am unemployed and needed that money for food. Apparently, they value making money over me eating. Busher said that they had no way of giving me the money back. Clearly there is a way because they did it before. They are not willing to help and keep in mind that I am in this mess because they did not honor their word to cancel further membership charges. Next is to talk with the GM of the club, Jason Whitehead and with corporate HR. I will post what their response is and if they refund the money to my bank account or not. Don't go there! read more

The facilities are nice, but watch out for the business end. I was with Lifestyle fitness and was transferred over to Lifetime. When we decided to cancel we had to waste a huge amount of time and jump thru many hoops, the account still is not canceled after many phones calls and letters. I was hesitant about the monthly fee, but my mind was put ar ease when they informed me there were no contracts required to join. There was a wide array of classes, but what sold me was the steam room and fresh towels. It felt like a country club! read more

BUYER BEWARE...Behind the scenes your value as a member is not equal to the Customer Service Experience they provide. When I joined they stated that they wanted to earn my membership and they did not I enjoyed aspects of my Lifetime Fitness experience BUT... 1. I had to relocate to a state without a LFT facility and needed to cancel my membership. Read all of the fine print on your contract because it is NOT consumer friendly. The only 2 ways you can cancel a membership is by an in person visit OR by a certified letter (at your expense.) 2. DO NOT EVER try to call the Corporate office to escalate issues of concern because they keep you on hold for excessive periods of time. 3. I moved twice and my Lifetime membership it can not translate to another city at the same cost. I moved to Austin and was told they were a Platinum facility and my Cary location was not even though the gyms were identical in look and services ( only less clean). I went to Atlanta and was told that their facility was at a higher level with a price difference (that was higher). There are many fitness options available choose wisely.... read more

it is really hard to beat. I was a member of the Cary club last summer before I went to college out of state and tried to find another club this summer just for pricing reasons. I found that the Cary club was having a promotion for reduced enrollment fees and just had to re-enroll. the staff members are helpful, all the machines are always in good condition, and I don't have to get a separate membership to be able to continue yoga classes. you get what you pay for and this is truly the best. read more

I have called the Cary gym several times, stopped by several times and spoke with Sue and the new GM........nothing changes I ended up calling the corporate number, but nothing as of yet has changed. The paying members are treated as we pay them to have the privilege of coming to there gym I have witnessed on several occasions employees taking top level lockers and the first bay lockers so paying members cannot use them.(I have given them exact locker numbers to check) You have seventy year old members having to bend over and use bottom lockers that they really can't see the numbers or bend to get into them. I understand employees used the gym and need lockers as well but the ones in the first bay as you walk in and the top tier should be saved for paying members They not only used them but they keep them tied up 24 hours a day so no one can ever use them. I will keep posting and calling corporate until someone addresses this issue and actually listens to the ones who pay their salary. I have seen other issues at the gym but have never complained until now, I will not let this one go read more

Bad experience at Lifetime Fitness cary. Asshat at the door insists that my child cannot come in unless she has a mask. I calmly explain that she has a medical condition and cannot wear a mask. He is making a scene, won't let us go in, insists that other people may complain. I tell him that's complete irrelevant. I also tell him that's a violation of the Amenricans with Disabilities Act for him not to allow us in. He says that there are no supervisors. Finally I convince him to call his boss on the phone so after talking briefly, he hands my child a face shield. Then he informs us that we need to register ahead for a racquet and balls to play in the squash courts. So I ask him if that's a new policy and gets agitated. So I ask him if he is telling me that I need a reservation because the courts are actually reserved or just to be difficult so he hands me two raquets and a ball. Terrible attitude. read more

The classes and trainers are great, especially edwin castro. I wish the rest of the staff would step it up to the quality expected for the price. Parents who have children enrolled in camp, please read. I was at the pool for about an hour between about 12:30pm to about 1:30pm. There were camp kids at the pool. As a mother of 4 kids I feel obligated to tell you that the camp staff and lifeguard on duty did not supervise or interact with your child for that entire hour. The male lifeguard was too busy socializing with two of the female counselors, did not look up at the pool once. The third female counselor was napping at the white children's table while your children begged her to play with them. When she awoke from her nap she decided to eat snacks from her bag in front of the kids telling them to leave her alone. Aside from the fact that you paid for people to interact with your children during what should be a fun camp day, the kids weren't even being supervised. There were two other mothers there who witnessed the same and i hope they complain to management. Lifetime, you are on notice. Fix this issue before a child suffers possibly fatal consequences. I'm disgusted. read more

This review is for the Life Time Kids Academy Summer Camp. Very impressed with how caring their instructors are. This is a great play based camp where the instructors are all engaged with the children, genuinely seem to love to interact with the campers. Lots of daily games and activities, and a great field trip every week. Kids come home happy and telling their funny camp stories every day. Highly recommend! read more

Issues, such as child center understaffing, is not addressed after contact with local and corporate officials. Numerous concerned parents have complained to corporate and Cary staff about ratio. It is 24 children to 1 staff member for children walking age and up. Life Time promises to make us "feel good inside," but how can we possibly feel good or get to work out if we know are children are unhappy? You're not alone if you feel the same. Membership losses are 42%. read more

Meh. I've experienced better. Perfect description for 2 star rating. My family has been members since the day the gym has opened. The only reason we remain a member is due to convenience and friends that we have there. Many of the employees are very friendly, save for one that works in the child camp area. How that person keeps their job is beyond me with all the eye rolling at members and yelling at the children. If you have an issue, it's best to keep it to yourself. The best response you will get from management is "I'll have someone look into it" and an expression that indicates they have had enough of this talk about member concerns. Another reason I did not rate the gym higher is because of their open gym policy. Namely that you can reserve half of the basketball court to work on your shot while 15 other guys wait to play a full court game. read more

I've been going here awhile. I like to get here very early in the morning to beat the crowds. Shame on me....I just discovered that Lifetime has been charging me member fees since 11/14. I was incorrectly told on the phone back in 10/14 that my membership would be cancelled once I paid what I owed....I did that transaction over the phone and thought that was it...membership cancelled. So yesterday I'm looking over a bank statement and I see the membership fee...I look back every month to November and see I've been charged every month for membership.....though....I haven't stepped foot in the club since 10/14. Again shame on me for not catching it.....but when I call Lifetime on the phone...no apologies...nothing....I'm told I was given erroneous information and that I would have to come to the club or send a registered letter to cancel my membership. So....in essence....make it as hard as possible to cancel a membership. It seems very questionable to me how you go on charging someone who clearly doesn't use your facilities any longer. But that's the sign of the times.....screw the customer as hard as possible until enough complain and they are forced to change their ways. As I told the gentlemen at the club yesterday....is it worth making 400 to 450 on me when for the rest of my life I am going to give Lifetime a scathing review to any one who asks me....and then that person will tell others and so on. Lastly, the BS of charging someone an extra month from when they cancel is unconscionable.....just tell us up front....we will rob you at the end of your membership.....hope you don't mind. That's just unbelievable! read more

This is a gym. It is a slick, corporate enterprise that has all the techniques down for extracting the maximum amount of money from customers. It also has the most features and opportunities that I have ever seen or even heard of. If you like all of that stuff, the spa, the cafe, the rock climbing wall, pools, the incredible variety of classes and group activities, etc. then you will enjoy paying the fees to go to this place. If you just want to work out, do some weights and/or cardio, then it's perfectly adequate and the free towel service is very nice. But OMG is it expensive! And watch out when signing up, as the "signup fee" can vary depending on the day, the month or simply the knowledge of the salesperson that you're dealing with. I dealt with two different ones, one was arrogant and annoying, the other was easy-going and pleasant. The sign-up fee started at $231 and went to $115 and then $65 and finally I got in for zero. What a PITA. Like every single gym I have ever been to, you must give 30 days notice to cancel. Once you do, if you can get past the secondary sales pitch to stay, it's done, it's over, no more games. The equipment is old, but well maintained. It is busy, this place is always busy and although there are literally hundreds of pieces of equipment to use, there are also hundreds of people there nearly all day long. So rarely have I had to wait to use a machine, but it does happen. I am able to avoid rush hour (5:30-7 PM) and I'm sure that the wait for machines then is worse. It is reasonably clean, but could be cleaner. To be fair, if the patrons weren't such a bunch of slobs, it would be cleaner still. You can't blame just the staff. Generally the kids seem to stay in specific areas like the pool or basketball court, but the gym doesn't seem to enforce their own, posted rules about keeping kids under 12 off of the second floor (where the equipment is). I was paying $99 for a month-to-month membership, and I'm glad that I didn't sign up for a year, because it's simply not worth it, not when there are acceptable alternatives for $10. read more

Yelp will not allow me to leave zero stars, therefore this place gets one. DO NOT BE FOOLED! This is a great looking gym. I was referred to this facility by a friend who liked a certain yoga instructor. I called to see if I could trial. I was kept waiting by a man named "Richie." Richie is a fast talker and convinced me to give him my credit card number so that I could get a two week free trial. He needed my card for incidentals. I was told over and over again that I would not be charged. He offered me two free sessions with a trainer (which I used, she was 10 minutes late to a 30 minute session and she was horrible) He offered me several discounted spa services. He promised me over and over again that I did not have to join and that I had nothing to lose. I did the two week trial and he charged my card. That was in August. When I tried to cancel I was told I had to come in and do it in person and this that there was a thirty day notice required. Richie did not give me EITHER of these details at first. Richie would not return my phone calls AND I AM STILL BEING CHARGED. It is November 7 and I am still being charged. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company and "Richie" will not return my call, nor will his boss. This facility is operated by MANIPULATIVE GREEDY LIARS and they will steal your money. Be careful. read more

They are not family friendly . The front desk girl was rude and classic North Raleigh stuck up people. I'm going back to the YMCA....

I started to sign up a this place back when it first opened, my employer would have paid the monthly fee. I had a 10 minute walk through with this tall balding middle aged man, who was very nice at first but over the span of the introduction became very sarcastic and rude. He kept commenting on the salary of people who attended and even mentioned it to one of the current members who just smirked at him. It was obvious she did not care for his comments, and I think his flavor of conversation was very tacky as well. I ended up not taking the free 'trial' and ask him if he had a brochure instead so I could think about it. He told me that the club didn't have brochures or any type of flyer, so I laughed in his face because I knew he was obviously lying. I'm not sure what the qualifications for staff at this place are but they must be very low considering my experience and all of the reviews I have read here on Yelp. read more

This is a fine gym, unless you have young kids. The childcare facilities look impressive, but I walked through them a lot while my son was in the baby room. The room for babies is fine, though you have to book a couple of days ahead of time to be sure of a spot, which was hard for me, but might work well for super organized folks. But the young child room (the one I was watching with my son in mind) was a MESS. Nothing like enough people to watch all the kids, kids crying and nobody attending to them, the danger that little ones would wander into the older child area (which seemed like it could easily happen), the big screen TV blasting movies at them (we are pretty careful about limiting TV and picking shows carefully), the sheer number of kids all milling around without being watched much. I didn't feel right leaving my son there, so I changed gyms. But I was happy with the rest of the gym; the facilities were clean and I liked the classes and equipment. And the pool is great! read more
