After years and years of working out at small places, I finally joined a mega-gym. Having made it to this Life Time a few dozen times, I feel it's time for some pluses and minuses: +The pool is a great place to be in the summer. +Hundreds of cardio machines, most all of them top notch Life Fitness. +Clean, large locker room. +A plethora of classes, activities, and clubs you can join. +Nice rock climbing wall and racquetball! +The snack shop makes darn good shakes. +Staff is super polite, helpful, and thanks you by name. +Great selection of strength training machines. ____________________________________________________ -Busy most of the day. 5am and Sunday evenings are the best times, I've found. -The nice cardio equipment doesn't have a cable feed. Why buy the top model treadmill with a 13 inch TV integrated in it if you're not going to have a cable feed? -Many of the strength machines are old, worn out, and clunky. Replace those Cybex machines!!! -No punching bags. :( Overall a solid gym with something to fit everyone's need. But if you're just looking for a very basic gym, this place probably won't be worth the price. read more

They have everything you need. The childcare is amazing. My son is my motivator to workout because he keeps asking me "when do we get to go to the play place (as he calls it)" The food is awesome and healthy in the cafe. They have so many machines that you never have to wait. In the summer the pool is great and they are always doing fun events. read more

I was a member at Life Time for about a year. The only reason I left was it is a tad far from my house and I split my life between the burbs and the city and it was just hard to get my moneys worth (not the clubs fault). The facility is huge, clean and well kept. I never had problems with it being crowded or equipment/space not being available. If your interested, I would highly recommend stopping in several times and seeing for yourself. For others complaining that there were alot of kids there, did you not notice they had water slides??? that should've been a dead give away. Although in my experience, I can't say I saw many kids at all. I also want to confess that I got considerable use out of those water slides. The only things this place didn't have were speed or heavy bags. Oh well. read more

Things have gone south at Lifetime the last several months. Equipment is broken or not well maintained, the hot water in the locker room showers is not hot, and it's simply too crowded. The cost is outrageous considering the above. read more

I like how this gym is 24 hours. I really enjoy the rock climbing wall and pool. They have great classes. Monthly dues are a little high.

I love this place. I've been getting my hair done by Nick for two years now and he is seriously the best!! I definitely recommend him. I've also noticed a huge change in the spa since Kathy became manager. She is so sweet and every time I come in there to get my hair done she makes me feel right at home. AVOID- I signed up after moving back from STL needing a local gym that offered 24/7 service. The first time I went in, I got an hour long lecture before even trying out the facility. Then their salesman... Don I think, called me to 'follow-up' at 9:30 PM on a weekday asking if I was ready to commit. I've been in sales longer than him and following up on a lead like that is not how you earn your commission, bud. They're too pricey, make constant calls to your personal, and it's jam packed. Do yourself a favor and save that money and use it elsewhere. read more

Definitely had the most extravagant experience signing up for a club ever. It all started off with Don, the individual in charge of signing people on. He is one of the most genuine, kind, and courteous people I have ever met in my life and is very up front and honest with everything. Jemal and Matt, the personal trainers, are both phenomenal. Lifetime has everything you could ask for. Clean, large locker rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, working equipment. But most of all, I Love Love Love the spin classes. From endurance training to that "party on a bike" AMP, I don't dread exercise! read more

I have been a member for more than 15 years. Belonged to Orland Park before I moved to Algonquin. This club is pretty disgusting. Bathrooms are always dirty. Equipment needs repair. I have complained in writing three times with no response. Guess they really don't care. There is a lot of competition. So I guess it's time to find a new club By the way they just raised our rates!! read more

My brother-in-law had a trainer for awhile and then hadn't used the same trainer for 3 months yet he still charged him $200+ for it. They love their money. - I went to get my eyebrows waxed and one of the workers (Melissa) was super nice. However, when I got home i noticed a burn mark under each eyebrow. She never mentioned a thing to me. I don't know if she knew about it or not (hopefully not because that'd be very unprofessional) but I'm never getting my eyebrows waxed there again. - They give you $20 in food credit to get at the cafes there but you have to use all of it at once. I had to order food for a family for just myself. They need to change that. read more

After visiting and joins multiple gyms in the area I have to say Lifetime is hands down my absolute favorite. The best part for me is that my toddler LOVES it there, she literally begs me to go to the gym we'll be members for a good long time. There are a LOT of little kids here. I don't want to go to a gym where it's like a day care center. There are a lot of spoiled brats just there to be 'cool'. I don't like how they don't know what they're doing, yet have their mommys and daddys follow them around to make it permitted to be upstairs. Some of them, I don't even think they are 13. Crazy. Thank God the sauna and hot tubs are only 16 and up. Yet they still stick their feet in when the pool is on break. HELLO, PARENTS! On the other hand, the place is very nice. Open 24/7, wise staff that don't hassle you, and a very clean building. It's ALWAYS busy, though. No matter what time I go, the place is packed and I have to struggle to get on a treadmill. I started to go at 4 AM just to get a decent workout. Not worth it. I do like their programs and classes, though. I like the sauna and how people are there just to do their own business. I did leave Lifetime because of the above factors. I went to a smaller, more convenient gym (Fitness 19) across the way. I never knew such a small place could be so nice. It's better to get a cheap membership and a great workout, then some overpriced extremity place. Lifetime is WAY overpriced. You're paying for what others are getting. Oh well. If you like being surrounded by youngsters (I'm only a teenager myself, by the way) and paying way to much for things you don't use, then go to Lifetime. read more

There are definitely some good things about Lifetime, but to me, the cons outweigh the pros. I have been a longtime member and have recently canceled my membership and have joined another gym due to several factors. Pros: A wide range of equipment to choose from, including cardio and weights. It is open 24/7. Very nice spa with talented and accommodating staff. A lot of extra amenities, such as racquetball, classes, pools, rock wall, and childcare. Cons: Expensive Crowded- often have trouble getting on the weight machines. Never a problem with cardio equipment though. The biggest factor for canceling my membership- A majority of the front line staff is extremely rude. For example, normally when first entering and giving them my card I am not even greeted with a hello. I usually have to initiate the hello and there have been times that has not even been reciprocated. It wasn't until I attempted to cancel my membership that I encountered "friendly" staff in efforts of keeping me a member. Very poor customer service. read more

I'll admit it, I have a history of being somewhat of a gym whore. I've been a member of places like Bally's as well as a plethora of XSport Fitness locations - I've even worked out at a 24 Hour Fitness a few times as well as countless hotel "fitness centers" - but Lifetime Fitness has been (to me) the mecca of gyms. Sure it's crowded at almost any given hour, but they also have treadmills, stationary bikes, and ellipticals as far as the eye can see. I have never ever ever had a problem grabbing a free machine. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a cardio machine drone either. With over 3 years of personal trainer assisted workouts under my belt (from a different gym), I'm no stranger to the free weights, cable machines & regular machines - or what I like to call "Meatheadville." Sure it's a meathead wasteland, filled with guys who would rather grunt and "rest" between sets than actually work out, but you get that anywhere. I usually come in with a flexible list of machines that I want to hit & adjust the order as the machines are available. I will have to say that I like using the strength of my own body using hand weights, resistance bands, bosu balls, kettle bells & a good ol' yoga mat over the cable machines any day, so you can usually find me in their studio area in the back corner of the gym doing my thing. It's a little busy over there too, mostly with trainers showing their poor defenseless victims the ropes. No one really bothers me, and it's never THAT crowed. Another great thing about Lifetime is their extensive class offerings. I've done a bunch of Zumba classes because I'm a glutton for punishment. It's basically about an hour long class where the instructor (who typically has been trained in dance and the ancient art of Zumba) stands in front of the class and leads dance fitness routines without actually talking (or at least they're supposed to...they do a LOT more yelling and "encouraging" here than other dance fitness studios - like The Attic in Batavia). I love working up a good sweat & having the opportunity to laugh my ass off at my lack of coordination, so Zumba's really been a hit for me. Best of all, these classes are included in the price of admission, so I have motivation to drag my buns to classes on a regular basis in an effort to get the most bang out of my buck ($70 a month IS pretty steep until you realize all that they have to offer). Now on to the cherry on the cake, the reason that I was able to convince my wholly non-motivated husband to join Lifetime with me: The Pool Area. Actually Lifetime has 2 pool areas, indoor and outdoor (weather permitting, of course). They've got a lap pool & a family area, complete with water slides (again, both indoor and outdoor). They've also got 2, count 'em TWO, gigantic hot tubs to soak your weary bones as well as a coed sauna in the pool area & gender specif ones in the locker rooms. Let me tell you, there's nothing better than slipping into your swimsuit & swimming a few laps after a grueling workout upstairs. Sure it doubles your workout time, but it is for sure 110% worth it. The locker rooms are always clean & they're fully stocked with towels so that you don't have to bring your own. It's worth noting that the towels are always hot out of the dryer, which makes them that much better. Even the shower room impressed me because it's always immaculately clean (well, you get a stray long girl's hair every now & again, but in a women's locker room, it's bound to happen); I haven't been able to find a hint of mildew, which can't be said for any of the other gyms I've been to. Lifetime Fitness is the real deal, the total package. Sure people are bound to gripe about it because it's so huge and "corporate," but if you actually take advantage of all the services and activities included with your membership, I think you'll find that it's $70 a month well spent (and this is coming from a person who LOVES a deal). read more

Call me a diva. I like a gym that offers EVERYTHING. Life Time Fitness has a salon, a spa, yoga, group classes, more machines and weights than anyone could ever need, HUGE dressing rooms- private steam rooms in each dressing room, a hujazz whirlpool, sauna, group pool and laps pool- outside pool, spinning, sports, training, and a cafe. Did I miss something? Yes, it costs more. You get what you pay for. Once you've gone here, it's hard to settle. read more

Don't waste your time here. Yes it's a beautiful, big gym that would appeal to anyone but that's about all that is positive about the place. PROS: it's open 24/7 and the classes are great. CONS: most of the employees are rude, you won't ever get a hello or even asked if you need help if you're struggling and a trainer clearly sees you, they will do anything to get your money INCLUDING LIE TO YOU, no one will answer any of your calls unless you're calling to join, I got charged multiple times for services I didn't use, and these people act like they're professional doctors and try to tell you how much is wrong with you in order so you buy personal training, nutritionist meetings, diet products, etc. And when they told me, a 5'2 115 pound woman I was OVERWEIGHT I just about lost it. Pathetic. And another thing, if you're going to tell your clients (Tom) that when they sign up, if they're not satisfied they will receive all their money back you better hold to it. And if you ever do cancel your membership with lifetime, beware because they may keep charging you $69 for the next 6 months and they will not refund your money or even get back to you. Standard set up as pretty much all the LTF's are. I've used the Bloomingdale, Romeoville, and now this Algonquin location. The Bloomingdale location has been consistently the cleanest pertaining to the Men's Locker room. Because of my schedule I often have used the gym during the 2am to 6am hours depending on my case load that shift. The free weights are usually clean at all three locations but I've noticed since moving to the Algonquin area that this LTF has a few extra crunchies found occasionally on the cardio equipment. Sweat I assume in a gym but crunchies make me sweat a bit more! Hot tub also on occasion has a bandaid but the crunchies I find the most disturbing. read more

The crowds have gotten better with time. Expensive club, but they have everything you want. The only thing I would like to see is a indoor track! For a place this big and with as many people it would be very hard to keep clean but the do a good job for the most part. The sales team here are unbelievably good. I write this review after being a Lifetime Fitness (LTF) member for over 12 years. They have made huge improvements over the years, and continue to be the most progressive and nicest run gym in the area (or anywhere nearby). I could go on and on about how great and wonderful Lifetime is (because, it is), but instead I provide you with some pros and cons: Pros: great location, open 24-hours, fantastic massage service, great programs (I have had wonderful experience with their running club, racquetball club, yoga, rock climbing), free child care, 2 full basketball courts, amazing indoor and outdoor swimming pool areas with indoor/outdoor slides, outdoor volleyball, ton of flat panel TVs inside, workout equipment is hands down the best I have ever used (both machines and free weights), huge selection of both free weights and machine, tons of treadmills/ellipticals (high quality), dry sauna and steam room, nice area to shave/get ready, clean locker rooms (recently renovated), luxurious locker room (in fact, incredible), and the list goes on... Cons: snobby people, pricey (worth it IMO), overcrowded parking lot (even when its super crowded I find myself not that crowded inside, because the place is huge), outdoor music is a bit obnoxious when you're trying to relax or read, cleaning people can sometimes run into you. read more

I have visited many of the LTF clubs in the Chicago area and the LTF in Columbus, Ohio. The Algonquin LTF is by far the cleanest, the equipment in good working order, and the staff very professional and helpful. Lastly, if you want a good healthy lunch that is fresh, visit the Algonquin Cafe. Seriously, the other LTF locations should follow the actions of the Algonquin management and staff. read more

The employees are nice, the facility itself is nice. They are regularly getting new equipment. It has a climbing wall, basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools. LifeSpa and LifeCafe also. A daycare makes it convenient for parents to drop their kids off while they work out. read more

This place is fabulous. I've was a single membership previously and loved it, great value considering how awesome the facility is and what it includes. I recently looked at Healthbridge for a family membership and I am pleased to say that lifetime is better in every category I was looking at: hours, facility cleanliness, machine availability, pool, daycare center, locker rooms, price, staff friendliness, I could go on and on. Healthbridge is the only close comparable gym that had similar inclusions and lifetime is much nicer in my opinion; and costs a few dollars less per month too. So I upgraded my membership to include my husband and three kids. I have participated in their free classes, paid classes, Kids swim lessons, and even sponsored runs like their 5k's, etc and all are wonderful. If you want the best then lifetime is it. read more

Awful experience with customer service for several months. The gym itself is on the pricey side. Hard to book spa services. I'm giving it 2 stars because the kids really enjoyed the pool but the snack bar outside was frequently closed and staff just standing around chatting (which would be fine for a few minutes but not 45 on several different occasions). Machines are hard to get time at as they are frequently unavailable. "Life time bucks" expire too quickly with too many restrictions. If you're looking to just work out and don't require the day care or spa just go somewhere and get your money's worth because there are a lot of gyms in the area (i.e. planet fitness for 10 bucks to just work out and splash pad for free with the kids). You just don't get what you pay for here and it's not worth the hassle! read more

I am so furious with Life Time Fitness Aquatic team. They kept pushing us around from one time to the other and when we would show up they would tell us to leave because either the class was too full or that they did not have us on the schedule. One time the pool was closed because of the maintenance, no one notified us so we showed up to class, after kids changed, just to come to a closed pool. And we were not even able to make it up. Last time we were scheduled to make up a couple of classes (that we called in due to traveling) and one member was helpful enough to put it in the calendar, or so it seemed, but when we showed up today, they said we can leave unless we pay for these classes. I feel like I was scammed. I never write complaints online, but this just threw me over the top. read more

Once again they have raised my monthly rate in less than a year. Be aware that the price you join at is not the price you will continue to pay. They raise your rates stating they have to increase your dues to "the current market rate." Basically no loyalty for being a dedicated member. Unfortunately this gym does not have much competition in the area. Still hoping an Xsport or big chain gym comes to the area. read more

I gave it 4/5 only because of the cost for membership. I love having a place to go to at 11 pm that has a lap pool, and all the weight training equipment you could ever need. What keeps me coming back is the lap pool and the classes that are included in your membership. They make it worth the price tag. read more
