I have been a member for 10 years. I understand prices will increase with cost of living, however, I started at $50 and I was at $69 when I decided it was not worth the money. When you walk in the is a rank smell that I think comes from the cafe but still have not figured it out yet. After raising prices I have yet to see improvements other than regular maintenance. The sauna was re-done that gets very crowded. I have been to the one in Vernon Hills and that is worth the money! Algonquin has many improvements to make. Update your weight machines. Update your showers in women's and family locker rooms. BIG turn off was when my debit card expired and they were still able to charge my bank account with me ever giving them my account or routing number. That is just a privacy issue for me. Cameras in the parking lot would be appreciated since it gets very busy and I witnessed a hit and run. Also try tennis courts, I would pay the $69 for that.. The rock wall WAS appealing 10 years ago..that should be used at more gym space since it is NEVER open. read more

We love Lifetime Fitness!! The guys at the Rock Wall are always willing to help and give you tips. The staff is very courteous and friendly. Pilates, Yin Yoga, Total Body Conditioning all have amazing instructors! Gloriann-our Pilates Reformer instructor is a great teacher and motivator. Her combination of exercises always leaves us feeling exhausted...but in a good way! The monthly fee is affordable, although you do have to pay extra for a lot of stuff (Reformer, team training, boot camp, etc.). read more

Last night I gave Lifetime Fitness a terrible review stating they took my membership off hold without my knowledge or consent. (Please see below.) Someone named Taylor responds to the review and pretends to care and today I actually got a phone call from Tamara at Lifetime Fitness after waiting three weeks for a response. They were going to give me a refund for the month of January. Let me reiterate. Lifetime Fitness took my membership off hold in March of 2019 As a result of their actions, I lost close to seven hundred dollars ($700.00) and their attempt to make everything ok is to give me a one month refund which is around $70.00. Wow, I wonder how they treat people they don't care about. If a customer puts their membership on hold, why would Lifetime take it off hold unless the customer makes the request? To be honest I came to lifetime fitness (Algonquin IL) seeking out a personal trainer. I was met by the fitness manager I believe who walked me through the facility and what not that was clean mostly. Anyways, what I expect when being greeted by someone who works in the fitness/wellness line of work is simply to be in shape. I can't understand for the life of me why the person that you have as the face of this grand and expensive membership facility is out of shape. If I'm looking to come in to be in better shape I'm going to need everyone on the fitness staff especially at lifetime fitness to have something to show for all the advice that you are throwing out to potential clients. Not only was that a letdown, but he talked to more for over an hour and a half on all these different areas of fitness. That is great and all, but for someone that is just trying to get a bit of information on the trainers and what not it was far too long and an information overload. I simply wasn't impressed with the knowledge because it didn't seem to be put into practice. Obviously I don't know that persons full life fitness journey, but when you tell me you've been there for a few years...? Actions of course speak louder than words. In order to motivate someone you yourself should be motivated to practice that same healthy lifestyle....unless your yourself don't fully believe it. Overall seemed to be an ok facility. Cancelled the membership, just not an enjoyable experience. The staff is on auto-pilot, and no one seems to be able to answer any questions knowledgably. Some of the gym-culture behavior in the locker room is repugnant, and when staff was advised they offered no assistance. Horrible experience! I thought my child was safe in their daycare? Apparently not! He got bit right in the face by another child that was allowed back only after a week! My child will have a mark on his face forever. Lifetime handled this in the worst possible way! DONT LEAVE your child in their daycare!!! So I came into this gym iffy about whether or not I was going to purchase a membership so I set up an appointment to speak to some one. The salesmens name was Donald .The customer service from this man was no where near to acceptable. He started off by saying he doesn't even have a clue of what he is even selling me , how am I supposed to invest my money into somewhere when the person taking my money has no idea of what he's selling. Then when I my girlfriend asked a question about the prices he very rudely said " So you are speaking for him?" She was just asking a question and his behavior was unnecessary and extremely rude. For this reason my girlfriend even cancelled her membership due to there being a precious situation where her mom was treated rudely by another employee. read more

Facilities: Facilities are varied and relatively clean. You can do pilates, basketball, wall climbing, sauna, and swimming. Classes are not free. Instead, you have Life Bucks that can come with the membership, which you can spend on paying for the classes. The equipment is mainly cleaned by the users before/after using it. Needless to say, some of the equipment is sometimes sticky. If they made sure the equipment was wiped and made sure bolts were tightened (one equipment had loose bolts for nearly a week) every 6 hours or so, it would be great. They do have plenty of towels and showers available. I've only come across an empty soap dispenser once during busy hour, but there were showers always available. The facilities can get quickly crowded during busy hours so I recommend either going to the gym in the wee hours of morning, around 9 or 11 pm, or when everyone is eating lunch (around 2 pm). Staff: The staff is very sympathetic to your problems and do their best to resolve the problem quickly. I mainly had problems with my account manager. Know that everything (putting things on hold and quitting) have a 30-day notice and that putting your account on hold gives you a surcharge. My account manager failed to inform me of that until I ran across some problems doing so. I did find that the managers in general were hard to reach by calling so I would advise contacting them by email and by going over to the facility to meet the managers. Price: I am not sure about the prices of gyms around the area, but I have certainly been to cheaper gyms. This gym is not the priciest or cheapest but it does still cost a bit. Out of a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the costliest, I would give it a 7. In terms of what is offered for your money, I would give it a 5. read more

I've been a member of Lifetime Fitness for about 5 years, and part of the reason I was so thrilled to join was because they offered 2 hours of FREE babysitting every day. Now they charge $6 per child per month in addition to your membership fee. (Still cheaper than the $2/hr. babysitting at Healthbridge.) Reserving a baby (age 0-12 months) into the baby room can be difficult, if not impossible during peak times. The child center has a large-screen TV with lots of kid videos and little kids toys, an area of climbing tubes, the ever-popular computer area stocked with Macs and kid games, a gym in the back, and an outdoor playground that's open infrequently. They have a huge selection of treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, and stationary bikes for aerobic exercise. They also have a lot of free weights and a good selection of weight machines. The adult locker rooms say "no opposite sex children" but the family changing room is tiny (with only 6 or 7 shower/changing areas) which is VERY frustrating during the busy times after swimming. read more

My family and I have been members of Lifetime for five years. When my oldest Daughter turned 21 now 24 she started paying for her own membership same with my youngest now 22. Since, after they turn 21 they are not on a family membership yet we pay for the youngest now they both did not want to give it up since they workout five days a week. The club is always so so clean, great machines, great staff as well. love the lap pool as well outside in the summer. Bad thing when you bring a guest they pay a lot for just a day. Yet, there are other gyms around the area that just don't compare. As well the classes you can take. Nice thing if your in another city that has a Lifetime you can work out there as well which i Have done often where I have friends in other cities. No surprise lifetime raises members rates again! Unfortunately lifetime doesn't care about loyal members. They do absolutely nothing for them. They also seem to have no interest in senior citizens, I've brought up to management numerous times about a senior membership, since most seniors are on a fixed budget and it has fallen on deaf ears. They take no suggestions to heart. And that goes for the corporate office also, since I have also tried to speak to them. There is a totally revolving door when it comes to employees too, which should tell you something. And some of the employees that are there can be rude and not very helpful at all. Certainly not at all like when I first joined, the employees then were very cordial and always willing to help you. We had to deal with a leaking roof for a few years and now that they finally fixed it, no surprise the members have to pay for it! Not sure if I'll be a member much longer, they are truly making it uninviting and unaffordable! Dear Lifetime Fitness, Please stop referring to yourselves as "The Healthy Way of Life Company." After four and a half years watching you suck the soul out of every employee I have known there, you are clearly not fostering a "HWOL" for your employees or their families. I'm certainly no expert about fitness, but as a working mom and a wife I can tell you that family time away from work is an important part of living a healthy life. You don't seem to encourage or even allow your employees to enjoy time away with 6-7 day work weeks, added "closeout" hours and calling people in on their day off. I think it may be time for you to reevaluate your slogan or perhaps your business practices. There's something to be said for companies who encourage family time and put a priority on employee happiness. Those companies have thriving employees who come to work energized and dedicated to doing a good job. Not to mention, less turn over and better employee loyalty. I have been to several of your locations across two states and the story is always the same...too many hours, not enough support, lack of respect among peers/management. I give this facility four stars because overall it's great. I love it & all they have to offer. For me alone at least. I've been a member here before but my most recent membership included my 18 month old son on it as well. Has anyone ever had an issue with their childcare facility? We used it for the first time the other day & our experience was one we will never forget, & not in a good way. I go workout & bring my son to the daycare. It was a new environment so he was unsure about it. I understand that. I dropped him off with some lady - she was the only adult in there to over 15 kids. My son cried when I left, naturally, but normally he is fine after a few minutes as long as someone is there to give him attention & show him it's all going to be okay. Well, I gave them my cell number to call me if I needed to leave my workout early, If he didn't calm down or was in severe distress. No one called so I assumed when I picked him up he would be laughing & playing, having a good time. 40 minutes later I get downstairs to pick him up & he is standing BY HIMSELF against the wall, almost in the back corner of the room, clutching onto his blanket, you could see the muscle line in his jaw from gripping onto his binky so tight & his cheeks are flushed red, as if has has been crying for the whole time I was gone. Not a single adult in sight even noticing him & how in pain he was. Emotionally. I asked the girl at the front how long he cried for & she says "oh, maybe like 2 mins." I went over to get him & he gave me the tightest hug I have ever gotten & just whimpered & sniffled, as if he just finished crying. So crying 2 minutes was a lie, he cried the WHOLE time he was there & not only did no one call me, but they lied to me about it & no one even took the time to comfort him & to let him know that everything was going to be okay. He is not even 2 years old. How could you let a child who can't tell you they're in pain, suffer like that? I wish I took a picture of how sad & depressed he looked when I got there. It broke my heart. Even when I took him swimming after to  help ease his pain, he wouldn't let go of me. Arms around my neck the entire time. 1 adult to that many kids is not enough, but when I picked up my son, he was the only one in distress & not a single adult even noticing. The lady I left him with wasn't warm & fuzzy enough to be working in that environment so that was my mistake. I wouldn't of paid her to babysit even before this. I feel to blame for putting him in that situation. Not being there to take his pain away. I've spoke to management, but even still my son has issues being apart from me now, he's been traumatized. I don't know what else happened. Was someone mean to him? Was he just ignored? No one answered his cries. I just don't see how this can be allowed? In 18 months, I've never seen him like he was that day & never want to see him that way again. I really wish there were more reviews I could have read on the daycare before making the decision to leave him there. I rejoined this gym so I could bring him along. Now I'm debating canceling because I don't feel comfortable enough to leave him there. Not even for 5 minutes. Like I said, I love this gym, but I'll never bring my son back to their daycare center & that makes it hard for me to put use to my membership! read more

I love this place. The child care center is extremely convenient & the kids love going. Lots of variety in equipment. I LOVE the free weights/racks but it does get crowded. Enough cardio equipment that waiting isn't usually required, except right after New Years. Great options for classes or group training. Pilates studio is great-I recommend Jess! Another amenities include a gym, pool, and climbing wall. Areas they could improve... Communication. It's not just this facility but Lifetime in general. They offer programs, challenges & showdowns, no one including the trainers & activities desk seem to have information for. If they do it's partial, or educated guesses. It's frustrating. Trainers... Jemal is spectacular. Most of the good trainers leave unfortunately. Magda, I miss the most. I also miss having Alpha classes available in the mid-morning. Back to communication. Having different hours for childcare around holidays needs to be posted. I also love the service offered by LifeSpa, BUT the customer service is lacking. Every single visit. Sarah at the front desk remembers my name before taking my membership card, and initiates pleasantries. She's so friendly & makes me feel positive about being there the moment I step inside. I've been a member at Algonquin Lifetime since 2012. To be honest the only reason I remained a member for this long is because of the club's location and size (the closest large gym to my home). I have finally decided to cancel my membership due to an extremely disturbing event that occurred to me during one of my work out sessions and the lack of action from the club regarding this. To be more specific, I caught a male member videotaping me as I was working out. At first I brushed it off by throwing him a dirty look, hoping he would stop. He didn't. Instead he went around me and continued videotaping me from a different angle. Extremely disturbed by what happened, I approached him and demanded that he deleted the footage. He refused to cooperate with me and I had to get the staff involved. Immediately after, another male member came up to me and confirmed that he saw everything and even caught the videotaping member deleting the footage of me in the male bathroom post my confronting him. The manager assured me that this will get handled and addressed properly and I left. No one ever called me from the club regarding this. Fast forward two weeks, when I was finally comfortable enough to return to the club, I decided to stop by the managers office to follow up on this issue. I was informed that they "weren't able to do much". The videotaping member's membership was NOT revoked because "he's been a member for 15 years". Sure enough, the videotaper showed up about 30 min into my workout that day, after which I promptly left and haven't been back since. Frankly, I wasn't aware that the longstanding membership grants one a permission to violate female members privacy. I wasn't aware it puts one above the law that prohibits one from videotaping the other against the other's will. But evidently, Life Time Fitness has a different opinion about that. It doesn't care about it's members safety, comfort and privacy. Not willing to put mine AND my 4 children's privacy and safety at risk, I am cancelling our membership at this club. read more

I looked at the schedule to see if the gym was open and went to play basketball with my daughter, which was the reason for us joining this gym again. As we were shooting guys began to play full court and kicked us off. I looked again at the schedule and the court was open. Awful customer service. They take no responsibility. I've been lied to several times, every employee has a different answer for the same question. Im now in the process of looking for a new gym. I called corporate and not one sorry, she wasn't understanding how frustrating it is to be lied to. I re enrolled in Sep and was told that I can use any gym, there would be no problem. Then I was given a handful of guest passes that were initialed by the account manager and told me that I could bring anyone in, there were no restrictions. Lastly, I know plenty of people who are on the "Student membership" and who use the gym regularly so when I asked to change mine to a student, I was stopped at the front desk and was told I can only use it during winter and summer break. It's unbelievable how no one is on the same page. I use the gym at Schaumburg and they let me in with no issue but if my boyfriend comes to my location it's a big scandal. I was a member years ago and I was allowed to use any gold club but now there's an up charge "elite" membership. We're already paying $62 a month. You can go to planet fitness and pay 20.00 for unlimited guess passes and use any location. I'm not typically an argumentative person but I believe everyone deserves great customer service and lifetime has a lot of work to do. I have not had anything but a headache. When I signed up I was promised all these different incentives, a bag, a personal trainer, group challenges, and other random things. It took me going in asking visit after visit to get 2 of those incentives. Then when my responsibilities at work doubled, I went in to try and end my membership. What I thought was an easy task, hahaha. I was not aware the guy that signed me up put me into an one year agreement. And that the terms for me to cancel was to move over 15 miles away, or DIE! So I continued to pay the remaining of the year. Mailing in a letter to cancel and now finding emails on a daily basis from Lifetime stating they are going to send my balance to collections until it is paid in full. I have been a member at this gym since 2002 and have loved every bit of it. However, recently I tried to bring in a guest and the ladies at the front desk would not allow her in. Not only did the ladies not let her in but they were super informal, blunt, and rude. I am not impressed with how they were acting towards my friend and I. At one point one of the ladies said that I could go workout(since I was a member) and my friend could just sit on the bench in the front for the remainder of time while I worked out. The rule about members bringing in a guest is absurd. My friend and I are both sixteen and have our licenses. I find that not right. My friend and I are trying to get fit for this upcoming spring season of high school lacrosse and now we can't workout together because my gym won't allow it without her parents physically in the building. I am allowed to drive a car anywhere I want but can't bring my friend with me to the gym? I am very disappointed in this rule and my family agreed with me that they aren't fond of it either. Thanks to this rule my family has decided to quit being members of LifeTime and we are on the search for a new gym! read more

I have gotten multiple services done at the life spa and absolutely love everyone there! The front desk is very helpful. I see Allison for my hair and she does an amazing job, she is so friendly and easy to talk to! She always makes sure I am happy. I also love going to Melissa for facials and waxing, she always recommends the best products! The best part is she also does nails! For massage I always see Alexis or Sam! They each have their own style, I always feel great after seeing one of them! I come here for all my salon and spa needs and would never go anywhere else! read more

The new change out continues a disturbing LTF trend of corporate-fitness-homogenization, where the club replaces popular exercise equipment with the kind of cheap multi-station equipment that populates low budget gyms like Chase & Fitness 19. The most recent example is this week's substitution of at least seven pin-loaded pieces that offered users variation in their routines with a LifeTime brand multi-station cable apparatus, a particularly brainless corporate decision given that it only adds great duplication to pieces that already exist in the club. The change is a complete quantitative & qualitative net negative for the gym's users. It's as if the new ownership toured local low budget gyms to replicate the milk toast manner in they are equipped & committed to making LTF as vanilla as possible. This was a decision made by people who have no idea what their position in the fitness market is. It is fast becoming a situation that the only reason to stay at LTF is a twisted desire to pay four times the rates of local low budget gyms. read more

i'm going to cancel my account Oct 31 since we're paid until that time. The membership price continues to rise out pacing inflation, and the club gets more disgusting each day. I wrote to management and i did receive an email with a request to call. i called and left a message and never received a return call. we've been members for years and there's too much competition in the area to gouge like this and keep members. it's too bad it could be a nice club if they new how to manage a health club and not be so greedy. I heard from an out of town member that Algonquin's members pay more to cover the less financially sound clubs. I am totally in love with this place, my favorite thing is the classes, I want to try them all, so far they are fabulous and I feel the burn!
