I' loved the Halifax location, but after moving, it wasn't as convenient of a spot as other salons. Luckily, now that I'm working in Dartmouth Crossing, Life Salon Spa is once again a great choice for me! The space is light and airy. My stylist was friendly and professional and I liked that she explained everything that she was doing to my hair. My favorite part is the warm towel they put over your hair to let the conditioner sink in. I love that I was able to get my hair done over my lunch hour, and as a bonus, I discovered I got a discount (during certain hours) because I work in the park, so the price was extremely reasonable. Happy to have this as my new regular salon. read more

Coming from an employee do not work here they treat you like a number I worked in front desk but the way they treat the hair stylists and aestheticians is ridiculous. You are a number they do not care about your well being, management will act like a friend then rip you apart the moment you do something they don't find 100% perfect you will be let go at any point in the time I worked there 4 people left and one was fired and I worked there for 4months give or take. Absolutely the WORST hair cut, dye job, brow wax and customer service I have EVER received. The girl who cut and dyed my hair, Julianna, was nice enough, but has NO clue how to cut or dye hair (and they were preparing to give her a student to train!). I ended up with an absolute HACK job. Sides 3 inches shorter than the back, when it was meant to be matching in length. HORRIBLY hacked chunk layers. The blending of the dye is terrible, it was meant to blend the length to my roots, and parts that should have been dyed, never got touched with dye at all. Honestly, I did better a better cut when I was 7 with craft scissors. And the lady who did my brows STUNK like cigarettes, it was gross. And she took WAY to much off rhe right brow, leaving me to have to paint it in for a while. I called the salon, was refunded for the hair cut only (Honestly didn't tell them about the lady who did my brows, as my hair was THAT HORRIBLE) When I talked to the Bedford location, The assistant director Tamika asked me to come in so they could have a stylist look at it, so I did. Tamika (who has absolutely ZERO stylist training), and one of their LEVEL 1 stylists looked at it, and supposedly took pictures (I've asked for a copy 4 times now, only to be ignored). The OWNER was in the salon, and just a few feet away....but NEVER BOTHERED TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE ME. I've had 2 other MASTER STYLISTS from other salons look at it, and they both ended up in tears because the hack job was THAT BAD. Neither master stylist charged me for the consult, btw. Life Salon gave me a level 1 stylist, and someone who knows nothing of hair, to look at it......with the owner RIGHT THERE IGNORING it all. Oh, and full disclosure: they offered to have their level 1 stylist curl my hair a few times while waiting to have extensions put in for me (over the 7-10 days I'd have to wait for hair to come in) BUT the first time she did, she didn't even put any product in my hair to help hold the style.....so it fell out within half an hour and looked hacked up once again. I wanted my hair that had been grossly hacked off, replaced with extensions (NOT cut shorter, I already lost 3 inches....i wasn't about to lose 2-3 more due to their mistake), and they were seemingly agreeing to this. (I even have someone who was with me during a phone conversation, and heard Tamika agree to the extensions). Then everything changed, they said they would sell me the hair at cost and fully charge me to put them in (Funny enough, they told me it's the OWNER who does the extensions). And I have to pay for the service, because they have to pay the stylist (owner). I mean, come on. If their stylist in Dartmouth knew what she was doing, we wouldn't have been going through ANY of this. At all. From that point on, Tamika was epiclly rude. I'll be honest, I eventually matched that. Tamika eventually told me they would fix my hair, but I would have to agree to a gag order. I think not EVERYONE should know just exactly how bad this salon treated me. Not just the person who overheard the conversation between Tamika and myself. Ive now (as of today) paid out $1000 to have my hair fixed. That's $1000 I wouldn't have had to spend, if Life Salon actually hired competent people. A high end salon? I think not. At least I know they have lost business because of this, and not just mine. 2 other 'regulars' I know have found other salons, and 4 other people I kmow who come 3 or 4 times a year for pedis will never return. And I will NOT be silent about what happened to me. read more

Now this is what I am talking about! Walking into Life Spa you immediately have a calming feeling come over you. Being and Aveda product based salon which is itself natural you can imagine the decor. Clean lines rock fireplace, leather chairs and wooden display cases as well as tables makes for a relaxing adventure. Given a gift certificate I went for manicure. I felt like I had baby hands when I was done. 60 mins of someone pampering you is great. Life Spa is a full service salon which can complete hair,make-up, spa service as well as they have men's services. Next time for me is going to be one of the special Massages and who know I might even treat the BF to a nice romantic sidexside. Life Spa is a bit more pricier then your average salon but the experience and the one on one time is worth every penny spent! read more

RUDE and LAZY . lastly tried to Present a $300 bill for a shampoo/cut and 2 foils. Brought it down to $200, something I could have had done for $120. Original appointment didn't go well as I asked for a specific style for a Christmas party and got random curls instead. Decided to give the salon another chance. The stylist refused to work with extensions and I was told it will take an hour + to install clip in extensions (it takes 5 mins) and I'd have to pay for a special occasion style for a simple blow out. Really disappointing in 2023 that they're charging people an hour + work for 5 minute clips ins that I said I would just put in myself. After moving to Dartmouth last year, I had a sad breakup with my long time hair dresser in St John's, and I had the dreaded task of finding someone new.. women know there is nothing quite like the relationship between yourself and your hair dresser! After trying a few places in Dartmouth, I decided to go to somewhere that I considered more expensive than I would previously consider. I am SO glad I did - and the truth is, the cost is pretty competitive. The salon itself is stunning - a calming scent takes over as soon as you come in the door, and you're promptly guided to one of two waiting areas, whether you have a hair or esthetics appointment. They also have complimentary beverages (their tea is fabulous) and wine if you wish (for a price). I found the service to be great in all areas - massage, manicures, pedicures, and most of all with the hair services! Great smelling products, the dyes are great on my sensitive skin, and my hair dresser (Cassandra) is fabulous and takes her time to do my hair perfect every time. If I could give a lower rating for customer service I absolutely would. Booked an appointment through the online booking feature for a late afternoon appt. Made a note expressing that I would be using a groupon for my appt. When I arrived I was told that she noticed the note for the groupon purchase and that unfortunately I could not use it on a Friday. As a front desk customer service agent myself, I'm appalled that your staff doesn't check the daily appointments at the beginning of each day, go through paperwork and customer notes and make sure everything is in order for the day. I have no problem with using the groupon on another day, but the fact that your staff waited until I came all the way out to Dartmouth crossing For the appointment to tell me I couldn't use it is ridiculous! I could have been phoned well in advance to explain the issue and my mistake. Bought a Groupon and called for an appointment. The girl I usually go to wasn't available, so the guy recommended a girl. I asked how experienced she was. He told me "she is really good, she has been with us for quite some time." I took the appointment.... mistake!!! It was torture!!! It took over 3 hours for a pedicure and shellac manicure!!!! Buyer Beware. Though Life Spa promotes themselves as having registered massage therapists, the massages my wife and I were sold were by non-registered personnel. This made for quite the surprise when paying - being advised that I could not get a receipt for my medical plan. Instead of the massages being covered, I paid out of pocket. I have spoken to the Director of Operations who was unwilling to fix the situation; only tried to sell me on more services. I would strongly recommend against this spa. read more

Let me start by saying i am 100% Dissatisfied with the customer service at Life Salon. My story: I went to Life Salon two weeks ago to have my hair permanently straightened. (my hair is barely curly to begin with) First of all it took 2 visits and one phone call to even get my appointment booked. Once i was there the process took 3 hours and was $260.00. By the time i left my hair looked very straight and i was happy with the actuall hair dresser, but the next morning when i washed my hair i had to do my regular routine. Blow drying my hair AND straughtening it. This should explain my concern right here, why would i spend $260.00 for nothing? Again, my hair is not even curly to being with. After talking with Sonya Thompson - Assistant Director all she could offer me was to do the treatment again for free. there is no way i want to have my hair damaged again and to sit in the salon again for 3 hours. I do not want my hair "re done" i want my money back. If this service was only $50.00 i would just say "okay, that one didnt work" and be done with it, but when you are talking about an amount like that i expect the result to be what the hairdresser told me it would be. This will be the first of many complaints if i do not recieve the customer service i expect - which is getting my money back for a GOOD and Realilistc reason. read more

I went for a spray tan at the Dartmouth location and the girl who did it was Great! She made me feel super comfortable and the tan itself was even all over! Turned out a tad orangy.....lol but next time I might opt for a different colour combination. read more

I normally go to another salon within walking distance of my house but got a Groupon deal for a pedicure and gel manicure so thought I'd try it out. Really glad I didn't pay full price. The pedicure was fairly good and neat but the atmosphere wasn't great. The area seems to be a place where lots of staff are coming in and out of for supplies and the music they play is not relaxing at all. The manicure was not good at all. First of all, the therapist didn't let my current gel paint have a full 10 minutes with acetone so she had to do a lot of filing and picking. As she put the colour on, she mentioned that as it gets towards the end of the bottle, the paint gets wrinkly but not to worry because when it cures, it goes away. Well, it did not. Once I got in the car, I could see that the paint under the top coat was horribly wrinkled and the application was just messy in general. Most therapists I've had in the past would not let you walk out with a manicure like this. They would see the wrinkles, remove the paint and ask you to choose another colour if they didn't have a new bottle of the same colour. I'm glad I didn't pay full price and will not get a manicure here again. read more

After getting inconsistent cuts from my regular hairdresser for 20 years (I'm a slow learner), I tried Life Salon Spa. Got a fantastic haircut that actually lasted me 2 months. Love the little extras that you receive at Life Salon- herbal tea or fruit infused water while you wait, a head massage and hot towel after your shampoo and the little chocolate you receive on your way out. I have spent the last year looking for a new hair stylist in the Halifax/Bedford/Dartmouth area. After stumbling on an Instagram account of a local stylist I thought I would give it a shot. All of her pictures were of hair "before and after" at Life Salon and I was hopeful she would do a great job. She seemed personable and attentive to those clients and I wanted someone who was knowledgeable and considerate. How disappointed I was. I found this stylist extremely abrupt with me. I brought in a picture of a balayage I wanted to try and she immediately told me it wouldn't look good on me. Then she asked her assistant to grab swatches in hopes I could pick a different shade. I'm not really sure why she put me through this exercise because every shade I picked she dismissed and said would not suit me. I was left sitting in the chair a bit perplexed because she seemed to have decided I wasn't good enough to be one of her clients. Finally, a decision was made to cover my roots with a toner. This was applied carelessly and she let the toner stain my cheek and forehead. Also, she went to do a price check and came back asking me if I could afford the appointment - I found this quite insulting. She also seemed oddly curious about my age and asked me if I had kids - considering I am in my 20s it felt as though she was making sure I knew I looked old, tired, and perhaps overweight. I should note that I do not have children, made no mention of the sort, and I didn't bring up anything to discuss my age. While I was sitting with the toner to set, she had another client come in who she worked on. Finally, it was time for me to wash my hair - I was very disappointed as a friend of mine, who had had an appointment a few weeks earlier, said that one of the nicest parts was getting a hand massage and hot towel treatment while the toner set. Obviously, I wasn't deemed worthy to receive that treatment. While the stylist washed my hair she was talking about layering colours and tones and shades, etc. Before I could chime in, she kept saying, "You probably don't know what I mean, do you?" or "I guess this talk is over your head" in a rather arrogant manner. She assumed I knew nothing about hair and I was so dissatisfied I just decided to disengage from her altogether, answering, "No, not sure what you mean," or, "Oh, really? I didn't know that". It seemed to sufficiently pad her ego. Once she finished washing the toner out, she said she was going to hand my blow dry off to her assistant. I mentioned that I like to have my crown teased and a loose wave. The stylist gave me a quick cut and rushed through so quickly I'm not sure the quality could be assured. During the cut, I tried again to make some small talk and I asked if a lot of people were going blonde these days as her clients on Instagram seemed to be doing that. She said yes, it's big now, but made sure to tell me I should NEVER go blonde because it would like really bad on me...she mentioned that several times, in fact. I thought this was very rude as I had never once said I wanted a blonde look or that I was attempting to do so. I guess she just really wanted to hammer home how ugly I was. Now on to the styling. Her assistant completely ignored my request for the crown tease and would barely speak to me the whole time - despite my efforts to make conversation. I eventually gave up on that. She did a pretty deplorable curling effort (I think they were totally dropped by the time I reached my home, which was 20 minutes away). I should also note that the stylist spent this entire "styling" time with her other client and ignored me completely. I am aware that my review does come across as a tad bitter, and to be honest, I am. I expected to be treated professionally and I was treated like a second-rate citizen. If this stylist is so confident in her ability that she feels she can toss new client opportunities, I wish her the best of luck. I appreciate honesty in a hair stylist, but I felt judged and as though I was unworthy to be in her presence. Women should be kind to one another and this person made sure to point out to me that I was unattractive and I wasn't good enough to be in her chair. I did shed some tears over this one when I went home as I haven't felt that ugly in a long time. My friends were pretty disappointed for me the day after as I had been SO excited to get a refreshed and fun look for summer. I was left feeling shamed for my unattractive appearance and only told how bad things would look on me. I will not be visiting any Life Salon location again and after I relayed my experience, none of my friends will either. read more

Oh, my hair experience was to die for. I chose LIFE salon and spa...located in Dartmouth Crossing. My appointment was for 9 a.m. I walked in and the salon smells like HEAVEN...It is an Aveda salon, so they only use all natural products...I immediately started to relax just from the scent in there. Staff were super friendly. My stylist was a lady named Samantha and she was really nice but not like immature party rockers you see at Karas or the like. . Anyway, three hours later...beautiful. My hair is awesome...the colour is great. While you are waiting for the foils to do their work, you either get a complimentary hand massage or a Chakra treatment. I went for the Chakra. Fun and I got a complimentary scent to try and if I like, I can buy more. I was loving it and then I got a scalp massage which nearly put me into lala land. Oh it was so nice and so I am booked in in six weeks. read more

The worst mani/pedi I have ever had. For 150$ you would imagine to walk away with pristine nails. When I got home and had a good look at them, my shellac french mani had bubbles all over my nails and the corners of each nail had been smudged when she was cleaning up the edges. I can deal with bad french tips, but the worst part was that she didn't even take the time to make sure my old color was off. Under two of my nails is left over purple polish. It looks just god awful. The pedi was fine until I woke up this morning. I went to bed 6 hours after getting the polish put on and woke up with my blanket stuck to my toes. I know she put a lot of coats on, but come on. I go to the spa quite frequently and this is by far the most I have ever paid and without a doubt the worst service I have ever received. Not to mention I am standing in a wedding tomorrow and have to go back to a better spa to get this disaster taken off and the look properly applied when I should really be spending the time preparing for the wedding. An absolute waste of time and money. These estheticians should go apprentice at one of the Asain spas to learn some proper technique. read more
