We've had an absolutely wonderful experience with Life Champ Martial Arts of Reston. What truly stands out is that this is so much more than just a martial arts school.. it's a place focused on character development, confidence, discipline, and leadership. Master Ben, Tyler, and Vivian are exceptional people who are always ready to assist, help, and support with any questions or concerns. We have been with them for three years and plan to continue for many more. I didn't leave a review immediately because trust takes time to build, and over the years they have absolutely earned ours. Thank you for everything you do. The instructors are exceptional: patient, professional, caring, and incredibly skilled at working with children of all ages. You can genuinely see how much they care about each student's growth, both inside and outside the classroom. The environment is positive, structured, and motivating. The programs are also extremely convenient for busy families, especially the after-school program and summer camps. Everything is very organized, and communication with parents has always been excellent. One of the things we appreciate most is how much confidence and focus children gain here. The emphasis on respect, self-discipline, and perseverance truly makes a difference. It's easy to understand why so many families stay with the program for years and continue all the way through black belt training. Excellent facilities and staff! They really take time to teach each lesson and are patient with the students. My son loves coming to as many as he can and it has helped him in being more disciplined while making friends in a social distance environment. The staff also makes a huge effort to make everyone feel comfortable and they take great measures in keeping the place clean after each class. Life Champ is wonderful! My 6 year old son attended the summer camp and is now in the Leadership program. We are impressed with how the instructors handle the kids and you can tell they genuinely care. They want the kids to succeed and really know how to command respect from even the smallest student. I like that this is an all encompassing program. It's not just about the TKD moves but also about behavior at home and school. He's even speaking Korean around the house! This is an exceptional martial arts program that is particularly well-suited to children. In addition to the self-defense skills and health benefits a child can gain through lessons there, advancement to successive belts (levels of mastery) in this martial arts program requires successful completion of a "Triple Smart" package. Triple Smart consists of various constructive tasks assigned to a child, such as reading for at least 20 minutes per day, making of one's bed, brushing of one's teeth, and additional tasks the parent may assign. Successful completion of these tasks must be verified by the parent in order for the child to accrue a sufficient number of points for eligibility toward the next belt. A system like this in which a succession of belts are objectives toward which constructive work must be done to attain them has proven a great motivator for our son Luke who became so preoccupied with earning his next belt that he began memorizing Korean martial arts terminology and the program's creed at every free moment, both at home and at school during recess. Underlying this martial arts program are a creed which consists of a set of principles that reinforce positive living, such as showing respect and courtesy to others, and performance "contracts" in which a student pledges, in writing, to reach a specific goal, such as attainment of a black belt, by a specified date. I consider the creed itself intrinsically positive and the performance contract a great way of teaching children the importance of honoring their commitments. Altogether, I consider this a great program that's served to motivate and retain the attention of our son in a way that exposure to soccer, hockey, ice skating, and a karate program did not. This program appears to have been well-designed with the proper balance between discipline and reward that are sufficient to motivate, but not deter, young children. While I consider this program responsible for reinforcing positive behavior in our son, I consider Master Ben, the lead instructor of this program, its key asset. Master Ben has implemented this program in a way that's motivated our son to strive toward improving his performance for him and to focus on goals in a way he did not before entering the program. Because this martial arts program encourages positive personal growth in combination with good exercise and self-defense training, I could not recommend more highly the training our son has received at Life Champ Martial Arts of Reston. read more

Last month, I walked by and saw kids on the floor mats exercising and running around. With my daughter in hand, I decided to check it out, see what this is all about since I was affiliated with so many schools in the past. While looking through the glass, the girl working there sees us and just turns her head around as if no one was interested. This is not good for a new business (my daughter is super cute btw). So we open the door, she looks at us again, and fails to acknolwedge that someone just walked in. She had a very rude look and started working on her shirts again (before the shirts decide to run away from her). So I said excuse me, twice, before she looked in our direction. I asked what program the kids on the floor mats are in, she said it was a Summer Camp thing but that it was too late, and she started to continue on those shirts again. My daughter was eager and smiling seeing how there were other children. Anyways, because she ended the conversation, my daughter and I just walked out. Is this what Jason Yi's tkd is all about? I mean, I had a kid in my hand, anxious to discover the other kids activities. We didint get any flyer or brochure or anything, not even a goodbye or thank you..... Ive been in the Martial Arts industry years ago, and have met with various schools and Masters in Fairfax County, PG County, Montgomery County, Baltimore County, and as far up as PA and NJ/NY. I dont know about this school, but I will be sure to ask around. In the mean time, I wouldnt even bother with this school. Apparently, everything they try to teach and instill in children, is not being reflected by their staff and members of the organization. TKD is supposed to enrich and provide health physically and mentally, and should be a good representative of the community in which they are trying to be a part of. read more

Both my children have been attending for over a year and we are very happy. Mr. Ben is excellent and the children respect the instructors. Currently, the after school program has been fantastic for my wife and I because by the time we pick up the kids their homework is done and they have had their practice. I can't speak for the first review, but if you go by the school you will see it is always busy and full - for a reason! They staff is excellent and cares about the children and creates a positive atmosphere. My two children love it - and so do we!! read more

Almost 3 1/2 years ago, we were looking for a summer camp in the Reston area. Several had a camp, but did not teach Tae Kwon Do (TKD) at all - We wanted our daughter to experience TKD, that was our reason for looking at TKD, we were not looking for a babysitter service that many of the other business offered. She had a great time all summer, and from then on, she was hooked. We started out because she had ADHD, and TKD was recommended to help her focus and attention skills. The staff know how to work with ADHD, and know how to get to build their focus skills. Our daughter reached her black belt last July 2012. She worked very hard . It gets challenging as the belts and forms increase. Students are strongly encouraged and helped one-on-one, but not forced and yelled at, like some schools. If you want a TKD school that will nurture and teach your child in learning TKD, this is the place. The head Master here is great, and the other instructors are wonderful. They teach in different styles, and our daughter learns differently from them all - but, they are all really great with the kids and they all have fun! read more

After going to a kids birthday party here and trying a few classes, we decided to join our son up for this. Our goal was to improve his coordination, help his self-confidence and for him to have fun. Honestly, I thought he'd quit within a few months (he was 5 1/2 when he started). But the instructors here really pay attention and "get" the kids. They are friendly. They encourage the kids to take leadership roles. They also have an awesome reading program that allows the kids to earn medals and trophies with the ultimate goal of a Samurai sword (all the kids want it enough to do the reading). And the reading program means they present a book EVERY week to an adult... really helping them with confidence and presentation skills. I have been more than happy with Jason Yi's Tae Kwon Do in Reston. We believe in what they do and will continue through black belt! In fact, we drive 8 miles to this place rather than the closer Tae Kwon Do places by our house. We didn't want a tough military atmosphere... this is a friendlier place and we like how happy our son is here. read more

Instructors are great!!!! This place is so clean. I see Instructors cleaning all the time. All workers have mask on at all time. Checking the temperature before entering. We started because she was scared of starting kindergarten next year so we wanted to have her get used to listening to a teacher before school starts. This place is nice. The only thing we didn't like is our son is older than most kids for that reason he didn't like it :( so if you have older kids( 9-13) they will learn with very small kids( for beginner classes) so, put that in mind before u register them. Also, if you think they will exercise while doing this, just know that it's not a lot of that. They will learn many things tho and it's good for younger kids. Three and a half years ago, I was looking for a summer camp in Reston. All of the other ones I looked at had a camp, but did not teach TKD at all - I wanted her to experience TKD, that was the point. Mr. Ben and Ms. Tammie were personable and professional, and managed to engage a group of 6 year olds (30 of them!) and kept them engaged and interested for the duration of the party. LifeChamp Martial Arts is an excellent program both in terms of teaching your children Tae Kwon Do AND how to be an overall respectful kid, all while having fun and learning very important life lessons like discipline, focus, coordination, team work, and respect for yourself and others. We are a military family and finding a new dojo is always a task. LifeChamp Reston came highly recommended by a close family friend - I'm so grateful we came here. My boys love their instructors and they love the new challenges each belt brings. The instructor's methods of working with the kids are just fantastic. They really understand kids, and are willing to do what it takes to make them comfortable. From birthday parties to classes, the staff can't be beat. I drove past about a dozen other schools to get to this one, simply to make sure that my kids were understood and enjoyed themselves. Their class times are convenient, they are available via phone, email, and Fb for other questions, and we are so glad we chose them. read more

Jason Yi is a slick guy. He can talk endlessly and lull you into thinking something that is not true. Our son went there for 3 months, liked it the first month, got bored in the second month and wanted to quit in the third month. Then I go and ask him to terminate the contract and he says I have to pay money back to cancel the contract. When we signed the contract he said it was month to month and you can cancel the contract any time. But when we go back to cancel he sings a different tune. Beware of what you sign up for. Don't fall for the smooth talking. read more

This school at first sells you how great TKD is for your child, which btw I agree with. After two year in this school it is apparent that they are just in this business for the money and not what they preach. They also try to lock you into a contract so that when you find out that it is not a good fit for your child or if you think your child is not learning anything you can't get out of the contract unless you move. It seems this school spends most of it's weekend class times trying to promote the school and having you bring in your friends. The classes has gotten so large that it is hard for your kid to learn anything. I've learned a valuable lesson that when a school locks you into a contract and does not put in a clause promising a certain level of quality of service is something to be weary of. We just had a birthday part at Jason Yi's for about 25 six year olds and this was the easiest party we've had to deal with. Master Ben and Tammie were incredibly friendly, organized, and professional. Master Ben was truly superb with the kids. He had them totally engaged from start to finish, making sure to keep every child involved. He and Tammie are a great team and they took care of everything. I feel that we got a ton of value for the cost of the party. It included nearly an hour of activities, pizza, plates, utensils, napkins, and drinks. And the birthday girl got to cut the cake with a giant sword! (Under close supervision, of course) Tammie insisted on handling all of the setup, passing out food, cake, and cleanup. And the activities that Master Ben had the kids involved in included some discipline (watch, follow, listen), proper form, obstacle course, and of course breaking boards. The kids LOVED breaking the boards! And every kid was able to do it, and you could see it boosted their confidence immediately by the way each child was beaming afterward. We had my son's 6th birthday party here and it was amazing. Master Ben was engaging, energetic, and funny. The kids had the best time! About 5 of the kids were 3 years old because they were little siblings of invitees; Master Ben appropriately differentiated activities for the little ones and they didn't feel like they were missing out at all. He and his assistant were also active during the party portion - handing out pizza, cutting cake... This was by far the best party we have had for my son, and we've done them all!! read more

We just had a wonderful birthday party there for our 6 year-old and his kindergarten class and other friends. Every child had a blast. They were so engaged and excited for the entire party. My 4 year old son started in April - we signed up for 6 months. He was away for 1 month during the summer. In early September he decided that it was no longer fun. He couldn't level up and fought us on going. We did the math and the time was basically up, so we chose not to fight the battle. I recently received notice that we owe another month of tuition. They apparently started the time in May. So now I get to pay for another month of NOTHING. We liked Master John a lot. But the classes were too crowded and included a lot of standing around doing nothing. Master Ben offered to extend the contract for a month - UMMM Hello he hasn't been in a month WHY would I want another month to not go. I would only recommend going in the summer when it is not so crowded. And DEFINITELY do not sign up for contract unless your kid is older. It was an unfortunate ending to what could have been a better experience. But they want that money regardless of anything else. read more

DONT DO IT! All they want is your money. Classes are way over crowded to the point of being a fire hazard. I've counted as many as 60 children to 5 instructors. most of the 45-60 minutes of instruction is spent having the younger children running around in circles. My daughter was 4 in november when they changed her class time 4:30-5:00 when they moved her from little ninjas to white belt her class time changed to 7:00-7:45... HELLO she's four she shoiuld be getting ready for bed. begining in November we left 6 messeges for the manager Master Lee. He claims he got none of them. The company that handles thier financial transactions refused to aknowledge 3 letters and numberous phone calls and I did a stop pay in February. They were freaking quick to call then. When I finally got to speak with someone at Global she informed me that they would agree to let me out of the contract if I would pay an additional $140.00. So in addition to the $169.00 per month we paid in Nov., Dec. and Jan. for classes my daughter could not attend they wanted another $140.00.. I can tell you what they didn't get. Dont take my word for call Global yourself as if your a disgrunteld customer since that's who management is going to direct you to deal with them. most cases you dont have the option of leaving a messege gaurentee you'll never get a return call. IT ALL ABOUT THE DOLLAR!!! read more
