I love going to Lidl to get goodies from their bakery dept, seasonings, and frozen foods. They carry chocolate croissants, focaccia bread, Italian bread, and more. The prices for the baked goods is really reasonable. When you walk in there's a good selection of produce at the entrance. I always get my veggies from here because some items are cheaper than other grocery stores. But there are a few higher priced things as well. You just gotta pay attention. They carry a lot of good items, they just might be generic. But I'm fine with that. The packaging sometimes looks so similar to the brand item that i have to do a double take.. Lol. The cheeses are a good deal or if your making a charcuterie board, this would be a good place to get stuff. It'll save you a few dollars. They also carry household items, clothing, toys, and etc. Its a small section but you can find some decent things in there. This isn't like regular stores where there are a bunch of employees walking around. Its very limited. You also have to bag your own items. I'm fine with bagging, but its a bit stressful to put your items on the belt then rush to try to bag everything before its the next persons turn. If your running in just for a few things, its not an issue bagging. But i had a basket full and i felt overwhelmed trying to hurry. They don't have a separate packaging station like Aldi's. That would be alot better because you can bag your items out of the way and take your time. That's my biggest complaint. They have German foods/brands as well and i love trying them. The desserts are usually pretty good. But be mindful and look at what you're buying. I brought Naan bread and got it home and there were huge pieces of mold growing inside. What a waste of $5. I don't live close to this location so i just sucked it up and took the loss. I don't use Lidl as my main store for grocery shopping. They just don't carry everything i need for my family in one place. I get produce, breads, frozen foods and things of that sort. But go to bigger stores for meats, canned goods, and stuff like that. Also don't forget your reusable bags. You can purchase plastic or paper bags for about $.12 per bag. Which isn't really bad. I like the idea of Lidl. I'm super glad they have a membership/rewards program now... Those prices add up quickly. But now they have coupons to help. I certainly recommend trying them out... read more

They are limited in items that they carry. I love their FRESH produce. I said I was not going to another grocery store but when I went in their produce is great. They run such good sales I go in sometimes Twice a week. Their produce has been good quality too. I'm only giving it a 3 because they do not carry everything I need. I still have to go to another store to pick up some items, BUT they have me coming in and buying groceries every week. So just for an example of what they do not carry. I was making a Ramen soup and they do not carry curry powder. It is an herb. So I make my list for this store and then make a list for the other grocery store. read more

This Lidl may be away from the main strip malls, but it's worth driving to. Their prices are cheaper because many of their groceries are Lidl brand. I highly recommend this Lidl and other locations. read more

This is one of my favorite Lidl locations aside from the one in Fairfax. The store is always clean and everything is well stocked. I loved frequenting this Lidl location during my time in Dam Neck last year and continue to visit whenever I am back in the area. This leave period was no exception. We got all of our favorite snacks and water, other essentials like my favorite mini apple turnovers and everything for less than $20. A steal in my opinion given how much stuff we actually purchased. They had a great deal for fresh raspberries --only $1.99/pint. A bag of Godiva chocolate for $3.99. Cheesecake sampler containing 4 different flavors for less than $4. Cinnamon sugar cookies for less than $2 and big jugs of gallon filtered water for 60c each. Seriously, why should anyone shop elsewhere? read more

The bright colors are attractive. The entryway is spacious and neat. The store is so clean and brightly lit. The bakery is stocked with goodies... that I bypassed. Lol. I was on the hunt for quick snacks and drinks. I found hummus with tortillas (less than $2), green tea, and wine (pink moscato $4). I didn't mind spending $.07 on a bag. This is the Lidl that just opened on November 16, 2017 at the corner of General Booth Blvd. and Edison Rd. For a point of reference, Jake's Smokehouse BBQ restaurant is on the other side of Edison Rd. Since this was the grand opening weekend, we were able to enter for a chance to win a $500 Lidl gift card, along with a reusable bag if you had the Lidl app downloaded. After completing that outside, we made our way into the store. The store didn't look as big on the outside, but once you come in, it was definitely quite large. Closest to the entrance is the bakery area, with fresh baked bread, bagels, cookies, and the like. Going down that first aisle there, you will find some of the cold food items, such as cheeses, prepackaged lunch meats, and the like. You will also find some meat products along this aisle as well. At the back of the store, you will find eggs (12 large eggs are $0.39), milk ($1.86 for 1 gallon of skim milk), ice cream ($1.75 for 1.5 quarts) and other similar items. There are cases there too for fresh chicken breasts and other meats too. In the two center aisles, you will find items that may change from time to time, as well as some dry food staples at room temperature (stuffing, etc.). At the other end of the store, you will find the frozen goods, such as pizza, prepared meals (Lean cuisine, etc.), and the like. After visiting an Aldi a few months ago, I wasn't sure what I would think about this place. After coming in here, this will definitely be my first stop for grocery items. Their prices are lower on many items here than what I would find at a Walmart even. One thing you will notice here is that many items are private label (store brand). As a result, this is what helps keep the pricing at a good point. They back all of their private label items 100%. If you have an issue, they will not only refund you, but they will give you a similar item to try instead. I will also note that they don't have as much an option as it comes to different flavors of items. For example, they only had two or three types of frozen meals. There will be more options at other grocery stores; however, I would still come here first to get what I need and then go elsewhere after because of the low prices here. Make sure to download the Lidl app from the app store. You can load coupons right onto the app. Even there are items that you aren't planning to get, I highly recommend "clipping" all of the coupons in the app. When you get to the register, you just scan the QR code to the reader and it will register your visit, as well as apply any clipped coupons that are eligible in that purchase. I found out from the cashier that they will send you additional coupons for items you actually purchase in store, so this is a great way to get some additional coupons for items you purchase all the time anyways. They will only know this when using the app. Overall, I am quite impressed with Lidl. This will be my first stop for all of my grocery shopping. If I can't find something here, I will go somewhere else for those other items in the interim. With the place just opening, their options may expand over time. This area has definitely needed a place like this. Be sure to check out your local Lidl before going to your regular grocery shopping store. You won't be disappointed. read more

Lidl is where I buy things I didn't know I needed but I suddenly can't live without. Seriously before Lidl came to town you never could have told me that I would be buying clothes and fitness gear at a grocery store. I came to this location on a cold day and left with a coat! That was on my first visit to this location. I think this area/neighborhood will enjoy this awesome store. Lidl will do well here. The deals on produce are always surprising. I haven't purchased any meat here yet so nothing to report on that. If you want to try something different give this chain a shot. It may not replace Walmart in your life but you'll certainly find yourself here a few times a month. read more

I like the store and the great deals they have weekly. I've talked with the store supervisor and she seems very customer friendly. Here's the problem, every week they advertise specials and when I go there they are always out of most of the really great deals. I was told recently that they never even received some of the advertised items and they could not get them from the other neighboring stores that did receive them. I'm going to try one more time to grab the special deals and if there out I think I'll give up and bypass Lidl and save my time. Cleanliness and parking are great. Aldi or Lidl that is the question. Until. Ok I was firmly on Aldi's side. I had no close Lidl options so I rarely went there. This time around I live close to both! No quarter? No problem. There are carts strewn about lot however. Lidl had almost everything I could need and more at low low low prices. A helpful employee gave me a $10 off $50 coupon and that sealed the deal. Lidl also has a reward system but I have yet to shop enough to use it. Will this be the deciding factor? Only after eating the frozen tiramisu and off brand Nutella will I know for sure. And the gelato. Aldi had horrible gelato which I had to feed to my kid as punishment for calling me stupid! Sometimes they sell out of popular items and don't restock. I think I was expecting something else - like a German Whole Foods or something. Lidl is actually a budget grocery store. Now, I don't think that's a bad thing, but it isn't what I had in my head when I entered. I saw tons and tons of alcohol - more alcohol options than anything else. I did see some healthy food choices and some organic stuff but mostly there were only a few other kinds of each (like one or two kinds of milk, eggs, orange juice, etc.). Don't get me wrong - I saw some things I could buy in here - but you need to know what you're shopping for. There were some fresh bakery items like cookies and donuts and a loaf of french bread and some produce but they do not have large selections of items. So if you are going in expecting to be able to do some full-on grocery shopping and really stock up - this is not the place. I see this as a quick stop for eggs. Or milk. Or specific items you're missing. IF they even have those items. They have the basics like if you were on WIC but not anything additional that might be a "luxury" food item. I like that the thought is these stores drive other stores prices down. I'm all about friendly competition. But I'll stick to Harris Teeter for my needs. read more

What an odd little place, but we had such a good experience! Me and girly loved seeing all the different brand items that look similar to what we usually use. I was a little skeptical at first with the branding, but I got this energy drink that is directly under the sugar free Red Bull's and it tastes identical! The rub is that it's only .79 cents!! We also got their brand chips that are awesome and glade looking candles for only $1.29. This place had some unbelievable deals! Girly was hooting and hollering about how cheap the Tide soap was, so you know that was a good find. Sprint Light is like $22 for 48 cans.. I'll see you when I wake up. HA. read more

Three stars in this case is not bad. If you are expecting Harris Teeter or Whole Foods you are in the wrong place. What you will find is outrageously great prices on the basics. That is worth coming here. Average selection of meat without name brands. Seafood is bagged, definitely not fresh. Now if you are looking for name brands cheap, you won't find it here. The brands are generic and very inexpensive. This place reminded me of shopping in a European suburban food store. In the middle rows are sundry items that just does not go with a grocery store. You literally can pick up men's briefs with your eggs. Sorry for the Friedman slip. Bottom line. Clean store, friendly associates, great prices, variety. Great to go on a budget. read more

I love Lidl, don't get me wrong. Their quality of food is great, but the workers at this location are the worst. They're never helpful, they will stand in the way when you're trying to get something off the shelf and even when you say excuse me they say "just give me a minute alright?" I went shopping yesterday and the cashier asked to put in my phone number for rewards and it kicked back and said wrong number and she said I don't have time for this and told me to just pay already. Which leads me in to this. What's with only having two registers open with huge lines? Self check out is almost never being open and when it is and you need help the only person coming to help you is the guy on the register with the huge line. I'm all for great prices and quality food, but I can't shop somewhere where they treat their customers like crap. read more

I really like Lidl. I shop here about once a week. They don't have the variety of a Harris Teeter or Food Lion, however having said that they do carry some nice items that those stores don't. The prices are great, which is the main reason I shop here. The store is nice and new and clean. Sometimes some of the veg, in particular the onions, don't last as long as produce from Harris Teeter, but again the prices are hard to beat and most of the produce is good quality. I like their selection of cheeses. Their potato chips are great, and they have good prices on wine and beer. Glad Lidl came to VB! read more

So we used to go to Lidl often and had a good opinion about the store. However, about a month ago I purchased some lamb on sale, when we opened it at home to cook, the smell was really REALLY bad. The lamb was spoiled. I went to the store, returned it and didn't think much of it - happens at times I thought. However now looking back I should have paid attention to what the cashier told me - "sometimes the fridges don't work well", she said. So obviously we stopped buying meat at Lidl. Today went in to purchase flour - open the bag to see the bugs all over it. I attached pictures. I'm posting this to hopefully have the management pay attention to the post and change the way business is done. You are selling food to people and the food can affect their health. Also if these bugs multiply at the house that can cause damage to other groceries and cause financial burden for some folks. It a good way to run business by cutting corners. I would much rather pay an extra $ that risk my health. read more

Bravo! Wunderbar! Do they use those words in Germany? I hear it is the brother of the Trader Joe's chain that owns Lidl. Lidl is low priced with quality non-name brand products. Their bakery is awesome! I hear they ship the dough from Germany and bake them here. In the aisle section at the cookie section the Dutch Butter Waffles with caramel filling are excellent. Plus they have sales on these sweets! Fresh fruit cups, milk, paper products and pet food have all been good. In the newspaper the story showed how areas with Lidl stores cause competitors to lower prices. They need more prepared frozen foods. Workers are nice ....... Frankie is great. Alison M.'s review is on point. Before coming here, I heard it was 'like a rival to Trader Joe's' which to me is completely inaccurate. I would say it's a trifecta between a dollar store, BJ's, and Walmart. The copycat products kind of threw me off, like a box of pancake mix that looked like a well known brand at a glance, but it was actually some weird knock-off; same applied to cereals and snack items. I'm sure they're good, but why not just create your own label and allow it to catch on? Aside from basic food items with not much differentiation in brand and a HUGE wine section, they carry lots of random items (housewares, clothes, toys, cosmetics, etc.). I would only come here for deals on select items - spices, produce, snacks, bakery items, olive oil - but I personally would not be able to do my core grocery shopping here. Definitely worth a visit once in awhile and looking forward to their future store openings in NY. read more

Although I do like the store and love the bakery section there are a few problems. They keep moving products around, the cashiers are not consistent since they work other jobs in the store and the worse thing is that they change the prices. A half gallon of milk was about a dollar for half a year......suddenly it is over two dollars! Their other stores in Virginia Beach still charge about a dollar but this store on General Booth Blvd charges over two dollars for the same product. They influenced the Kroger at Hilltop to lower their price of milk to around a dollar for a half gallon then doubled the price at Lidl. Let the buyer beware. I was such a fan of Lidl until this happened. read more
