I really like this lidl. Admittedly, there needs to be more cashiers and the store could be kept tidier but their fruit and veg is very good. I stopped buying at the larger supermarkets because the quality is not as good. Best OJ, price on milk remarkably lower and their flowers are great. Staff is always nice too. read more

The Europeans are here and I'd say let the grocery wars begin but it was more of an IKEA / Stu Leonards light look feel and quality. An 89 year old company with 10,000 plus stores is spreading out over the island and renting out closed retail spaces. Bringing European economics and goods with it. Police here to calm the crowds .. in Plainview? The most disaffected shoppers likely in the world. Hahaha. The unions showed up with blow up rats not getting the contracts to build. And lines formed and a DJ played and giveaways included bags and cookie cutters and ornaments for your tree that said Lidl. Hm. Lidl knows how to do a grand opening. Loud music starting at 730 made it fun. It's no Trader Joe's. It's no Fairway. It's no Johns Farm and it's not The old ShopRite. It's smack in the middle of Plainview. Arguably Long islands most demanding consumers. And it brings some loss leaders and discounts on items mixed in with regular items and prices. Kaiser rolls looking too paltry.. hmm proud to be an American and get to a deli.. sourdough bread with thyme.. mm I'll take one of those. And did. Generic items always fun to see and try like no name ketchup and mayo. Salmon on sale sensibly raised... hmm this is wild caught salmon please land. And the savings might or might not matter. Single source chocolate. yum. Lots of it and beyond fairly priced. Win for Madagascar dark chocolate bars. Tasted a sample and would recommend. Apples weren't labeled local. Not cool for New Yorker's who like to buy from their area. Maybe I missed some that were will check again. Go local save small biz and reduce the transport footprint. Regular OJ no fresh squeezed like Best Market or Stu's or Fairway. So a no go for juice. Bob and weave around here for some values on some dairy not all. Some chips and condiments. Most of the cookies were made with Palm oil. Made me think of how overpopulated the world is and how many people need food produced for them. I may be spoiled by the east ends sustainable north fork local produce and vibe. Also right here, the luxury of being in the epicenter of Ivarrone Bros, Johns Farms, Fairway and TJs, but I can appreciate what this store does for millions. It's volume approach will likely be a hit some places. Plainview will be the question. Will it be a hit here? Will see. For now over to TJs for some good cheese and crackers for the holiday then over to Johns for the best selection of imported Pannetone in NY. read more

This location feels so spacious compared to East Meadow! Located in Morton Village plaza, they offer a wider selection than in East Meadow. I enjoy perusing the aisles to see what catches my eye. Sometimes the prices here just can't be beat! Have you ever seen a pineapple for 79¢? And it was fresh; not from reduced sale. If you don't believe me, just refer to my photos. I also encountered sunkist lemons for 99¢/bag. Brand name lemons! Wow! Household staples are reasonably priced. How about a dozen of Extra Large eggs for 69¢ or just large eggs for 56¢? Go nuts at the nuts/trail mix sold by weight section in one of the aisles. I came to this location for a foldable basket, a deal at $4.99! Unfortunately they were out of stock. When they advertise "while supplies last!" they really mean it! Lidl has their own app but it is really not accurately reflect stock in real time. I stopped by the East Meadow location on the same day because the app indicated there was stock; however it was sold out there too. The only thing I find really annoying is how difficult it can be to locate sale items. I end up criss crossing back and forth to find all the items on my shopping list. It's a good thing there are usually friendly employees restocking shelves who don't mind showing you where the item is. I enjoy their selection of jams (some come from Germany!) I stock up on their marshmallows too, and their really affordable organic ketchup (no High Fructose Corn Syrup). Give these European brands a chance; they ban some of those food additives that the FDA doesn't ban! Lidl sells lavender honey which my friend recommended and I have been trying to hunt down. This might be my new favorite food store. I know this place gets mixed reviews, but I've been pretty happy every time I've shopped here. This has become my go-to place to get my kitchen staples like my fruits and veggies, bread, and cheese, and they have great prices on chicken (not sure about the rest of the meat, as I don't eat it). I think their prices are fair, the store is clean, and it's never crowded. My only complaint is that they don't always have the items listed in the circular (sometimes they sell out right away, but other times they just don't carry them in general). I don't think you can compare this store to a ShopRite or Stop and Shop. It's definitely not as big, and they don't carry as many brands, but I like their selection on the essentials. read more

Really solid store. I initially had low expectations for it. Do we really need another supermarket in plainview? Also, it's pretty small. Are they going to be able to carry enough to make it worthwhile to come here? After a couple of visits, I've changed my tune. They pretty much have whatever you need at really good prices. Good quality too. If you're looking for a lot of brands, don't come here. But if you need a few versions of every type of thing you'd buy in a supermarket, it's great. Way less overwhelming than the other options. I expect this will be my go-to unless I need unique items or specific brand. Follow-up review. I've now been here about ten times. I love it. The employees are so personable and fantastic. They're thankful to work here and will tell you that. A pleasure all around. All the negative press is silly. I've written several reviews about this store. I was actually one of the first 20 customers to go in and shop there when they opened. This is my last review as I have moved to Florida so here's a summary. Most folks who shop at ShopRite or Trader Joe's will be disappointed. This store is what happens when John's Farms marries Dollar General. It's hit or miss to be exact. You'll find an item you love and then it's gone forever. I loved going in grabbing some coffee or maybe something else like smoked salmon but that's about it. They do have an expensive milk and eggs and assorted items in the middle of the store that you might find something good I actually got a great vest. I recommend you check it out but definitely you won't be able to do a full shopping here for a family. Very few brands besides their own. My mom kept telling me that she was really enjoying Lidl and that I should check it out. I kept thinking that there is no way that I would like this store, but I was wrong, and I think it is great. The first time I went was during the middle of April and I was having a hard time finding some basic stuff like chicken and flour. I was able to score both of them at Lidl that April day. Since then I have been to this store many, many times, and I am a big fan. I suggest you check it out. I'll share some of the items that I now purchase from them on a regular basis. I get lots of cheese from them; they have good cinnamon rolls and stuff like that. I get their chicken and chopped turkey. All in all, I am very happy that Lidl moved in so close to my parents. Until I entered this store, I had never heard of it or been introduce to one. Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG is a German global discount supermarket chain, based in Neckarsulm, Germany. They operate over 10,000 stores from what I read. From my short first visit, I noticed that the one could purchase groceries at low prices without having to buy a major quantity. They also offer a small assortment of clothing and other products similar to what one would find in a Walmart or Target chain stores. It seems they have many private label products to offer which is similar to a Costco and other large wholesalers. I am surprised that a store of this nature would choose a location like Plainview where you find high end grocery stores. But it will probably do well because of their low prices. read more

I've seen this spot have many different grocery stores..from FoodTown, to Shop Rite, and now Lidl. I was only in the store so far for a brief time. About 10 minutes. The store is neatly organized and there are some name brands that I noticed and not just Lidl brand. The name brands that I did see were Oreo (Nabisco) and Foldgers. I'm sure they carry more name brands but I wasn't in the store long enough to explore. I will say that the store is clean and organized. I had asked an employee if they had something..although she didn't know, she still found out for me. The employees all have a headset to communicate with each other directly. I feel this is a very efficient way to help customers right on the spot. Prices appear to be very reasonable. I wouldn't say I would do my main or weekly shopping here, but if I needed to pick up a few things, it would be my go to spot. read more

I recently checked out Lidl since I was under the impression it's similar to Aldi and I love me some Aldi knockoff brands and awesome prices. While Lidl tries to be eco-conscious and encouraged you to use the app for savings instead of a store card, the app doesn't appear to save you THAT much money. They also charge for bags. Paper bags. Plastic? I get that. But paper? Since when? The store itself is beautiful and spacious considering its inventory is on the limited side. Their bakery smells great and they have a nifty bread cutting machine. Their produce section is massive but two sweet potatoes costs around $2 and at Target 6 sweet potatoes cost $2 so. They don't have many "knockoff" brands here, which is fine, but don't charge more than the average store for brands I can buy elsewhere. I saw a laundry detergent I regularly use and it was $2 more than Target sells it for. Perhaps I was under the wrong impression of this place and thought it would save me some money, while unfortunately it did not. My first promo was a coupon to save $10 if I spent $50 or more. I hit $50 pretty quickly and I only bought a few items. Their meat section was lacking. I needed pork for a recipe I was making and the selection was very limited. Plenty of chicken products, though! Tons of chicken, in fact. The self-checkout lanes were empty and I soon understood why. The system is slow and you cannot pack as you go (an employee explained this to me). Instead you must scan everything and leave it sitting in the packing area, pay, THEN start bagging. Slows the entire process down, tbh. The store is fine for some basic essentials but if you're coming here to save money, you won't. Still a good alternate shopping experience if you're sick of Target and Stop & Shop, though! read more

Two thirds grocery store One third Sears. Strange combination but it works well. This being a German company where gas is so expensive I guess they figure that selling tools and clothing and gardening implements might save you a trip somewhere else. I don't know how that is going to work out here in America especially in Plainview but if you ignore the Sears side you will be pleased with the grocery part. As said in previous comments by other Yelpers you are still going to need a larger store with more variety but you will be able to buy very good quality at great prices for many items. My wife and I went to the new Lidl here in Montgomery Village. I would not waste anytime going to this store! AlDI is superior to Lidl. We tried the so called sourdough bread, not at all tastes like sourdough. The jelly donuts were all dough and maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon of jelly! If I am in need of a ladder I will go to Home Depot! If my wife needs a dress she will shop at Montgomery Mall! The prices are higher then Aldi's and the parking lot is a death trap! I almost got run over by a crazy lady leaving the parking lot! We like Aldi's much more! PS. If you want great sourdough bread go to Wegmans! They have an excellent Organic Sourdough! In addition if you go to Lidl's park far away from there parking lot! Place is clean and prices are great. I've tested similar products with lidl brand and most are better with less salt or sugar and still tastes great. They have an app that helps save even more money. The meats are fair priced or less and it makes me happy saving money on food shopping. Someone left one of Lidl's shopping carts 2 blocks from the Plainview store in a 9-11 Memorial Park! It's collecting garbage in it now too! After speaking to customer service twice a week apart and reporting it to the store manager and assistant manager as well as two other employees ...the cart is STILL THERE!! Not only is it disgraceful that it was left in a Memorial Park but it's an eyesore as one enters our housing development. Lidl, get your act together!!! read more
