Have been shopping here since we moved to Eastbourne at Xmas 2007/8. Very friendly and helpful staff and managers. A lot of the fruit and veg is sourced from within the UK and prices are generally lower than at Tesco or ASDA. For example, a kg of small cox apples for £1. Their soya milk at 0.59 a litre is excellent and does not curdle when used with hot tea or coffee. A kilo of Greek yogurt which contains only 3.g of sugar per 100 costs only £1.58 and there is a range of very competitively priced cheeses many of which are made in Eire and are suitable for vegetarians. Personally, I recommend their houmous, much better value and tastier than Tesco as are their sandwiches, with a delicious Cheese Ploughmans for a mere £1.39. Another plus is that, unlike Iceland, they readily open up more checkouts when the queues get too long. A lot of the staff come from East European countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Latvia and there are also people from Portugal. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the store is a manageable size. They do not seem to make a fuss about returning items, which is done is a pleasant and professional way. At times, it may be hard to find a parking place but there is room on some of the nearby side streets off the main road. The
store is also 1 min from two bus stops for those without a car, such as myself. On Saturdays, a small number of items are generally on sale at reduced prices and there are also a number of weekly offers, which start on a Thursday and run to the Wednesday of the following week. Their Xmas stuff, mince pies, iced fruit cake etc is
superb (as good as M&S) and you are advised to buy what you need when it is available since demand always outstrips supply.
Anyway, don't take my word for it, if you live in Eastbourne or are visiting, just pop in and see for yourself! read more
