It's a Custard Pie with Phyllo and ground cinnamon :D. She warmed it up for me and no joke it was like time froze when i was eating it haha.. im a custard connoisseur and it tasted Amazing :)!! Another thing that struck my fancy was a custard croissant they had surprisingly with no almonds sprinkled on top of it haha.. that's the standard these days for some reason. Almonds aren't kind to me so that was obe pastry i haven't had in ages so i scoffed that down to .. so good aswell :D!! They got heaps more of greek pastrys and cookies :), I asked if they do coffee which they inclined but they said only strong Greek coffee in those "Copper Coffee Pot" :). So if you can't handle strong coffee you can always get your flat white, Soy latte etc across or down the road :) Its open till late daily and is a local favourite since the old days :)! Its places like this that need to be open for a further 40 years :D!!

We proceeded to spend about 20 minutes ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the enormous selection of delectable-looking cakes, breads, Greek pastries and biscuits, trying to not buy one of everything. The ladies behind the counter were patient with our indecision and unfamiliarity with Greek sweets, but efficient when we finally made our decisions. As tempting as the Mars bar mousse cake and caramel ricotta cake looked, I had to go for the traditional Greek sweets - it is the Hellenic Bakery after all! The galaktoboureko was oh-so-smooth and their lady fingers had the right balance of bitter nuts to syrup. I'll have to return to try the rest.

A friend who was pretty enthused about this place (and goes back at least once a week it would seem) took me so we could give it a whirl. Mediocre. Honestly, there's nothing special about this place. Nothing stands out. Apparently it's an uber hip franchise from America so maybe that's why everyone is shitting bricks over it. I was surprised it wasn't on Yelp actually because there seems to be such a freaking hoo-ha about it. Yes, there are lots of flavours, yes they change weekly or daily or whatever. Yes you pay by the ounce (WE DON'T USE OUNCES HERE YOU ARE IN AUSTRALIA!). Yes, it's hip and funky, or will be for about 5 mins. It's no different from Moochi, Wow Cow or any other stupidly named fro yo bar's there are out there. Just to let you know I had a bit of coffee flavoured, coconut flavoured, chocolate flavoured, and red velvet cake mix flavoured. Meh. I just have this image that in about 6 months time we will be over frozen yoghurt and we'll see signs half hanging off shop fronts, people with bright pink aprons roaming the streets with vacant expressions, cup upon cup with those funkalicious designs scattered about abandoned train stations.....Perhaps it will join the dessert fad brotherhood - the humble but forgotten macaron, the overhyped cake pop and countless other food slaves to food fashion.

But I guess cuteness comes at a price, because things here are just a bit exxy by Asian standards. Sure, you'd probably expect to pay $7 for a smoothie, $6 for an iced coffee or $9 for a slice of cake in any other cafe but somehow it just seems wrong when you're in Eastwood. But hey, it tastes good and it looks SO FREAKING CUTE so I'll let it slide. Service can be a bit iffy, with several tables staying uncleared for the whole time I was there and staff not being able to explain several items on their menu. And be prepared to carry your own food and drinks with you if you sit upstairs. These guys are open til late, so it's usually packed on any night of the week with students and their laptops using the wifi. But hey, they're probably pretty cute too so it all just adds to the charm.

Their coffee is what I would describe as drinkable, not the worst coffee I've ever tasted but I had better coffees. But I find this place endearing. Maybe it's the cute decor that can make you feel like you're in the middle of some Korean soaps. Or maybe great moments I shared with loved ones over a delicious cake or two that it has become a tradition to come here whenever we're in the area.

The furnishing of the interior and exterior of the store is quite retro and the feels of raw-ness, but its just the perfect balance. After waiting 15 minutes and seemingly not getting any closer to the counter, we gave up and went further down the road and had dessert at another restaurant. C'est La Vie!
