Michael is a friendly guy who seems to have pretty good knowledge around construction but does not seem to have enough experience to give estimates even on very scoped projects. He made me waste over one month holding my house keys trying to get estimates from him on some remodeling projects I needed done. I called every week trying to get the writing estimate on what I asked in person and I would always get the answer that he would take care of it next week. One month later nothing. Still no writing estimate neither a time frame on how long job would take. If Licensed Home Improvement is only looking for big fish projects or too busy to take any new project, they should mention it explicitly and not make waste time to people. Still, I was able to test the quality of the work on a small wood fencing project and result was average. The people he hired for the job did not know that some smart guys invented sanders so touching the top of the wood fence could hurt your fingers. Also the guys he hired thought I was stupid enough to not see they only put one coat of stain so I had to ask them to put a second coat which they did. Shady practice in my opinion. If you wanna waste your time and get average work done on your property, then you can give a try. read more

Met with Michael October 4 2019 to review our project. Michael indicated he would get back to us later that week. After 3 weeks I emailed his office and was told Michael would be "reminded". That was 2 weeks ago ( 5 weeks in total) and still no contact from Michael. The courtesy of a phone call or email to let us know he was not going to follow up as promised would have been appreciated. Can't recommend Licensed Home Improvements enough. My wife and I just bought a home in Big Bear City and ripped up some carpet to discover a hodge-podge of old linoleum / tile -- yielding repairs far out of our DIY expertise. I called Michael and 30 minutes later he was at our home assessing the situation. We told him what we would like him to do -- and not only was he able to level our floors (in one day), he beat the previous quote we had for installing our laminate floors. The work was done quickly, but with care. Michael has been very attentive to our questions and timeline. We are first time home buyers and he has never hesitated once to answer our myriad of questions. LHI rates are definitely reasonable. Called Michael on Monday to do some cabinet work on our place in Big Bear due to a a newly purchased counter depth refrigerator not fitting correctly. He offered to come out the same day to assess what needed to be done, scheduled time first thing Wednesday morning and promptly finished trimming cabinet doors, framing and lacquering and all done so with nice detail and attention to clean-up. It's interesting how some people view what they say and do as the same thing. While, at first, Michael seemed reputable his actions were less than favorable. He professed he would work with a budget of about 90,000 dollars which was at the limit of my insurance claim. We all know entire homes have been built for less. i was dealing with major damage, but the flooring, roof and sub floors were intact. His assumption that I would use an unlicensed contractor and that the Building inspector for the county wouldn't have issues with that are far too revealing as to where he wished to place the blame. I did have the county building inspector out more times than I care to count and things were placed in good condition, up to code and with a licensed contractor. When looking back on this, Michael made many promises and was slow on the uptake to deliver his bid, which took more than two months. So, while he might be a nice guy, he was not prompt nor honest in what he would do for the money, and wanted me to petition the insurance company for more than 25,000. more than was available. That, to me, and this is just my experience, does not speak well of a contractor's reputation: When they start changing the game plan before the project ever begins. So, be it as it may, I have a beautiful home for the price point allowed and up to code and specs and I didn't have to deal with Licensed Home Improvement to get it done. That, to me, is worth every penny spent and then some (25,000.00) not. This is it, my last word on the issue, but I wouldn't trust this type of work ethic from a contractor. Licensed Home Improvement was truly there when I needed them ! A few years back the side of my home up in big bear was compromised by a horrible rain storm. I got up there and walked through my bedrooms downstairs and walked through mush! My carpets were destroyed as water had seeped through the side of my home. I immediately called my realtor and she gave me a couple names to call. The first to return my call was Michael (of LHI). He quickly came over, assessed the damage and started drying it up right away . I knew then he was the right guy for the job !
