Best experience ever. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Very organized. Wow. What a different from center street location of old.

Super fast express service. Opens early just have all your documents and you would get seen right away.

The interior and the nice people that greet you.

Holy moly! FANTASTIC! This is the DMV? This ruins any joke about the DMV being one of Dante's circles of Hell. One walks in and is greeted by a friendly face who hands you a clipboard, reminds you to fill out the second page. Check in with my reservation bar code was a snap. And the people behind the desk were FRIENDLY! Smiling faces who actually like being there (or faking it really well). Heck, they even let me retake my photo because my smile wasn't that good I'm the first one. I was so impressed I called over the manager to let her know how amazed I was and that I am actually recommending this for anyone that needs to get their license, renew, get an ID card... All the things you can do at the DMV. The kicker my appointment was at 9 o'clock... Please see the photo showing my watch at 9:05 AM because that's when I was done. Can one be in love with a DMV office? I'm thinking of sending them a Valentine's Day card.

I was dreading a visit to the NY DMV to renew my license. I recall the last time I went through this I spent almost 7 hours waiting to get my new license. A quick google maps search and this place came up. I went prepared to be there for a few hours but to my surprise I was out in a half hour! As soon as you walk in, an employee asks what you need help with. I was directed to the clip boards with paperwork to complete. They have pens and you can sit down to complete the form. Next head up to the first window once you fill out the form and you'll get a ticket. Keep an eye out on the electronic board that lists numbers and which booth to report to when it's your turn. They don't seem to consistently announce numbers so be sure to look up at the board. If you miss your number you may need to go up again and get another number. Once at a booth, the process is simple. Hand over your old license and select the option of a real or enhanced license. I got the enhanced and it came to $110.50. They accept credit cards. You may get a new photo or keep the current one you have. The attendant prints out a temporary card for you to review the details. Hang on to this and in 2 weeks they will mail the card to you. Simple, straightforward, and efficient on a weekday afternoon. Plenty of seating, a water fountain, and may have a restroom.

You get a temporary license without a photo or anything. You can use it to drive. It will expire in a short time, and by then they should have mailed you your license.

I moved from Virginia to New York and just realized my drivers license has expired. Can I renew and get a NY State Drivers license at license express?

It certainly seems so, as long as your Virginia license expired less than 2 years ago. Bring your expired Virginia license along with the required proofs listed at the NY DMV website at this URL:… Read more

I told the reception clerk I wanted to renew my license and get a new photo. She gave me two numbered tickets, one for the photo and one for form processing. I didn't get across the room and thought I heard my photo number, but thought they'll probably repeat it. I sat down and scanned the numbers board. My number didn't repeat so I went back to reception. Another clerk took me over to the photo window, spoke to the clerk and told me wait. She was impatient. Her instructions were confusing, but she got the job done. My form processing number was soon called. I did the very easy eye sight test which consists of reading one line of large letters. I tried to pay by check. They only accepted cash or credit card. My docs were processed. I was given my receipt and left. On the subway home I looked at my flip phone and found 7 DMV text messages. Four telling me to go to the assigned windows I already had visited, but 3 were sent after I had received my receipt and left the building. They said to go to another window. I only hope the last 3 texts were sent due to a computer glitch.

Unfortunately the MVC locations closer to me either had no appointments or don't offer the services I need. Booking an appointment through the MVC website is pretty straightforward and you get confirmation right away. Once you get to the MVC you fall in line and check-in. They look your name up on the list and see when your appointment is. So really your appointment is just to allow you to check-in and not really for receiving service. Once they verify your documents they give you a ticket and you wait for your number to be called. It'll also tell you which window to go to. I didn't quite understand how the number system worked because at one time the same number was on the board 3 different times. All that said, the process was pretty efficient and I was out of the MVC within the hour. The employees I encountered were friendly and helpful.

I went on line to research which location I needed to go to, easily made an appointment on-line (you can't book more than 30 days out), easily found all the forms I was going to need and printed them out at home. Entering the facility wasn't exactly clear where to go. I started with the receptionist (she was very no nonsense and efficient but I like that) who verified the correct forms I would need, then got into another line to verify I filled the forms out correctly and had all my documentation in order (she was an absolute sweet lady), was given a number, sat in a chair and waited to be called. I only had to wait about 10 minutes before I was called to the final window. The DMV rep was fast and polite. He moved through the paperwork quickly and within another 10 minutes, I was done!! I don't know why these places get such bad reviews. Of course they aren't convenient but nothing ever really is and if you are nice to them and show them respect, they do the same to you. Do your research on line, come prepared and be patient and you will be in and out in 30 minutes.

Pros-close to the 2 train, easy for my elderly mother to walk to. Very clean location esp the restrooms, there was even a worker cleaning the bathroom when i was there making sure it stood clean. The staff here is super nice. The nicest I've ever encountered at any dmv location and the main reason i gave it 4 stars. Both ladies working counters 5 & 11 today were so nice to me and my mom and very helpful. My mom wasn't able to get her enhanced id during her renewal due to her name being misspelled and the lady working counter 11 gave us all the info to fix it and come back. She renewed the license for now and told us the price when she fixed everything to upgrade it to the enhanced. She was the sweetest. Cons-long wait Time even with appts, no security walking around the seating areas to ensure safety. There was a crazy guy talking to himself and bullying anyone that stood too close to him for his liking and when he was done he left and pushed a ton of people. Security should walk around observing those seated esp since people get very agitated waiting so long.
