Lice? Us? But, but, but... It can't be! But it is! Those really are NOT sesame seeds in my 12-year-old daughter's gorgeous, long, curly hair? They are lice eggs, AKA nits? So now what? Will she have to cut her hair short? She would rather be banished to the moon. I mean, she's almost 13! Will we have to use toxic pesticides? Look at all the remedies out there! My head is swirling! But not too close to my daughter's head, mind you. I come to Yelp. I see Lice Patrol. I see five stars. I see the reviews. I call. Martina answers. She is so reassuring. Are we available in two hours? Yes! Yes! She arrives with her chair and her tools. She is so incredibly calm, sweet, and reassuring. Such a good person, you can tell from the get-go. And boy does she know lice! She dispelled so many lice myths. She was incredibly good with us, and reassured my daughter that she would in no way have to cut her hair. Just maybe the ends, so the nit comb would go through better. She ended up doing that for us because I surely would have given her a mohawk or crewcut with my haircutting skills. It took a long time to go through my child's tresses. In the end there was only one real louse, but there were jillions of nits. When she did my hair, she found just a few nits. We have been doing the combing with mint spray and conditioner spray as directed by Martina. It has been two weeks. A week ago she saw us for a recheck, and we are rid of everything! Not a nit on us! (My hubby was free and clear, lucky guy. Of course. He has straight, thin, short hair...) But we continue combing with the extra good nit pick she gave us, just in case. We do this for another week. It's just a precaution, because apparently with lice, you never know 100 percent until a certain amount of time goes by. My daughter and I made the best of the nit combing and inspections. It was actually almost fun. For the first week, when we combed every day (more than necessary, but I wanted to blast any icky bug babies/eggs that may be hiding) we watched a movie a night. Some good classics, from The Magnificent Ambersons to The Third Man. So in a way, these lice were an excuse to slow down and enjoy some time together. Who says nitpicking can't be fun?! I can't recommend Martina highly enough. My daughter thinks she's super, and so do I! She should wear a cape with a giant dead louse image on it. She's our hero! This review is waaaay overdue! I just want to start by saying Martina is amazing! We called her back in January because my husband and I noticed that our kids kept itching their head. When my kids got lice, I went into sheer panic. I found Lice Patrol online and gave them a call. Martina picked up the phone right away and offered to come to my house the same day. My daughter came home from a five day vacation with her Dad with a head full of lice. She probably got it at school 9 or 10 days before, then went on vacation with Dad, so that by the time I noticed we had a full infestation. I discovered this on a Sunday afternoon. Grossed out and sure that no lice places were open, I treated her with some Nix from the drugstore. (There was no way I could wait until Monday to do something!) First two lessons learned. First, NIX DOES NOT WORK. Apparently the lice have gotten resistant to it over the years. Plus it stinks to high heaven and my kid had an allergic reaction to it. She woke up at 4:00am crying because her head itched and stung so badly. We washed her hair with regular shampoo at 4:30am just to get the Nix stuff out of her hair. Lesson number 2: Call Lice Patrol even if it is a Sunday! I called first thing on Monday morning and Martina came over to our house that afternoon. Martina was a lifesaver. Not only did she do an extremely thorough combing and picking (it's a two step process) she taught me how to do it and provided us with the industrial-strength steel lice comb and some non-toxic spray. I combed and picked my daughter every day for five days (each time about 90-120 minutes). Now we can back off to every other day for the next two weeks. (Full cycle for lice is three weeks I think.) I strongly recommend Lice Patrol... not only for getting the situation under control, but also for being a terrific and supportive coach. Because of Martina, I am now A LICE WARRIOR! what do you get when you combine a long haired preschooler and a preschool with a no nit policy? A mom about to lose her last marble and a 3 week battle against nits and casings. After a thorough search, she found no lice on my daughter's head, although there was a report of lice at her school. I highly recommend using Lice Patrol Our 5 year old was sent home from school with Lice earlier this week - there is an epidemic at his pre-school. We tried the over the counter stuff at Walgreens -- Dont waste your money and, more importantly, dont waste your time. It doesnt work nor do you really know what to look for if you have not had lice in your family before, at least I did not. Also the combs they sell at Walgreens are crappy. Either buy one on your own or buy one through Martina. The one she sells is called Nit Free. I called Martina and she was able to come over the same day to check our family and treat us. My wife and I were not infected, but our son had a good amount. She was very good with him and he sat there for a long time while she combed and combed. She also answered any questions we had and educated us on lice and how to deal with it. I have not found anything since her visit - lets keep them away! read more

Before talking with Martina I felt like I was looking for needles in a haystack and was frantically vacuuming, washing, and combing our house, fighting what seem like invisible bugs & eggs. Absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! Martina is incredible on every level and I am deeply grateful for her help with what was, for me, an incredibly embarrassing and challenging problem. She was caring, patient, instructive, professional and is an incredible asset if you need help with lice. I am an adult and returned from an extended family visit in South America with an unexpected return guest.... a terrible lice infestation. Having no experience with lice and no family to help rid myself of the parasites, I tried every over the counter and non over the counter solution without success. This was my first lice scare. A friends boy had it, who spends time at our home. So I wanted to be checked out and know if we had it. We were supposed to leave out of town to a friends to stay the night, and I did not want to bring lice with us. So we were quickly accomodated when she was getting ready to go out of town herself. She checked my whole family out and none of us had it thank god!!! We bought her non-toxic cleanser and a comb to have on hand just in case. We did not need her delicing services but she subscribes to the one time strand by strand delicing, which my mother did with me at 7, rather then multiple trips at which you quickly comb through the hair.
