I attended this venue for a large gala/awards ceremony. The venue itself is huge! There were 60 tables with ten person a table and servers galore! The front entrance had room for photographers, a photobooth and the seating chart. There was a third room with two bars on opposite walls and a stage for a band. Finally, there were doors exiting into a small courtyard in case you needed a break from the action. The food was very good. The tartar was a good size for an appetizer and I liked the assortment of crackers. The roast dinner was a good size piece and the harvest vegetables were cooked perfectly. There was a small dessert served as well. Overall, I was impressed with the service and dinner took around 3 hours total. I would return here again. read more

Venue: 4.5 stars Food: 3 stars I recently attended a wedding as a bridesmaid and will say that the venue is absolutely beautiful - very elegant and luxurious! The lighting is stunning. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as great as we had hoped for. While the hors d'œuvres were pretty good, the course meal was very luck lustre. The food definitely looked better than it tasted. My salad was decent. My steak was very tough, bland, and dry (more well-done when it should've been medium rare). My dessert was mediocre at best. This venue is absolutely beautiful and I love how versatile in it - they have classy million dollar weddings here one day and the next day they will host a hard trap rave. Last time I came here it was for the HR awards and it was really.. grand. The dining area is exceptional with high ceilings and had a very 'young' vibe as opposed to those old school weddings with old white posh people, y'know what I'm saying? The reason why this is 2 stars is because the service is horrible. Dinner service was slow and messed up orders/drinks. The food served was disgusting. The main meal was a 'hen' - very small, dry and overcooked with barely any flavour. The vegetarian meal was this weird eggplant thing that nobody touched at all because it had no flavour and looked like mush. The only thing that saved dinner was dessert, which was a melty chocolate ice cream thing. Very decadent and worth every bite. Did I mention I was very sick during this event I had to attend? At the end of the night, my throat was very dry and I went up to the bar upon exiting to ask for a glass of water to take my medication to which the bartender rudely shut down my request with a "no" .. when explaining I needed to take my meds, he slammed his hand down on the bar several times saying "NO WATER HERE. OTHER BAR!!!" ..the reason I didn't want to wait at the other bar is because.. well have you ever seen an open bar during any event?? To get a glass of water is rough. He shooed me away.. saying there is no water.. at a bar.. I know you've been lying to me. Staff.. please fix your attitudes, especially to events where people are paying lots of money.. to be a normal pleasant human being isn't too difficult. High ceilings boasting high arches, beautiful flooring and cordial staff. Lots of windows, a stage, coat check and restrooms in the basement. I pulled off to an empty side road to call my PR friends for direction getting to the Liberty Grand, and just when I was about to dial the number, I saw signs pointing forward indicating that I was on the very road leading to it. Dumb luck. To get it out of the way, all staff at this venue were as pleasant, and professional as I could ever hope for in a public venue. I asked for something strong following the wedding ceremony, and the barkeep made this intensely good tasting cocktail comprised of four to five drinks I usually would never touch. I tipped him $20, and he took care of me for the rest of the evening. The five course meal consisted of the following: -Spring salad -two pastas -fillet mignon & lobster tail with risotto -some kind of mocha dessert formed in mug shaped chocolate -a gigantic seafood platter that no one was able to finish In terms of food for reception halls, the food is a high four star, and the service is equally as uncompromising. I am still rather emotional following the wedding, so the décor is difficult for me to describe. The reception was held int he Renaissance + Centennial Room. High ceilings and huge art deco window panes, a reasonably sized dance floor, and glitzy drapery. I feel that this historic building is being put into good use by the occupants in a fairly dignified manner. I have no major complaints. The bride retired to the four available suites upstairs to change into a total of four dresses throughout her wedding. I've never seen a more beautiful woman in my life in such variety. Each of her dresses were designer from a different Continent. My favourite dress she had on (according to the groom) costs an amount that rivals most total wedding costs held in Toronto! I almost thought the Liberty Grand was too shabby for a wedding so upscale in certain variances, but somehow this place was able to sustain the affluence, which almost doesn't make sense to me. This wedding could have easily happened at the Royal York, or CFC Toronto. I am planning to visit St. Lucia, and just happens that one of the staff there was from there. She offered me some good advice, and told me about some mountain there in the shape of a tit. Right, and so begins this pilgrimage. I ended up taking home the centerpiece and a bunch of flowers, also I drove the newly weds to the Shangri-La. I appreciated that there was always a doorman, or a doorwoman. #30daysofYelp If you choose this for your wedding venue, you want opulence and a sense of grandeur. What makes it so, is the high vaulting ceilings, fireplaces and marble floors. It's classy, sophisticated and has an air of extravagance. Was here for my friends wedding on a cold October weekend. It's not the most easily accessible by public transit because after you get off the bus/streetcar you have to walk a whole bunch, and not fun when you're in a short dress! She did have a shuttle bus going back and forth from Liberty Grand to downtown every half hour, but it was late most times. I'm not sure if this is something the venue itself provided. Walking in, there was a coat check, with two ladies manning the coats, just situation in a corner stairwell. There was no covering and I was a little apprehensive about leaving my bag out in the open like that. Cocktails was set up really nicely, with the bar in the corner, and a cozy fireplace with couches at the back. The actual reception room was narrow. The head table at one side and a stage at the other. Almost 30% of the tables were side by side with the head table so you couldn't really see anything. Dance floor was a good size. They also had some loungey chairs setup inside and out side the room. Here's where reviewing someone elses wedding becomes tricky. You need to distinguish between their planning and the venues services. The food I found to be a bit bland, however, I know they were really picky about their food choices. It might be that the tasting was amazing, and on the day, the mass production became sloppy. What I was really disappointed about was the service. It was served individually, but on most occasions out of the 5 courses, at least 3-4 people on our table was missed. And had to wait for a long time (people almost finished) before the meal came! I thought it was a basic rule to serve everyone at the table at the same time. Also, serving happened on all sides of me, which wasn't cool. I also found them cold and unfriendly. I also didn't really understand the table placement. Each side seemed to have room enough to move the tables closer to the center, more evenly spaced, but the side I was on had one table pushed up against the wall (right at the projector)where two people could not sit. The logistics of the place, seemed like everything else happened on time, with no glitches for all I know. Overall a beautiful wedding atmosphere, but just some minor details that could have made it perfect from a venue point of view. read more

I've been to the liberty grand for two weddings and a social now, and i thought it deserves a positive review. Timing is everything and they get it right. This is ensuring the food is served exactly when it's supposed to, making sure the food is cooked for the exact time it's needed, offering guests validated parking to ensure they're on time. The interior in the artifacts room is simple and elegant and the governors room is rustic and my personal favourite. The patio/terrace area is nice for smokers. The only complaint i have is that the bathrooms are downstairs which makes for disastrous moments for ppl drinking and girls in heels (but hey, this is the case with most halls). read more

Went to wedding dinner reception here on Saturday, June 10, 2017 and I expected a lot more from this place, as I've heard good things (a few years back. Probably has changed since then). Venue itself is really nice, cocktail area had a nice vibe and different seating areas. The hall/dinner area had high ceilings and open feel. What lacked and was a big disappointment was the quality of food and service. Food was average and nothing special. Service was terrible as food and drinks were taken away when we weren't finished eating and/or drinking. Some servers were unpleasant, lazy and awkward to say the least. Yesterday I had the pleasure of Officiating the wedding ceremony of Lisa & Stephen here in the gorgeous courtyard. It was a sunny day in June but the mature trees are perfectly situated to offer shade for the entire wedding party and most of the seated guests so we were all very comfortable. You don't need much in the way of flowers or decor as the foliage is lush and beautiful on its own. The catering manager, Brian was amazingly helpful and hands-on as well as being extremely professional. The couple were in very good hands, ensuring that the ceremony started on time and that the guests were attended to. I highly recommend this venue! read more

This place is very beautifully decorated, especially for a wedding. The food was good but the Squash soup could have been a bit less salty. Overall, the atmosphere in this place is classy and memorable, with gigantic chandeliers dangling from the ceiling (not literally but you know what I mean...they're not swinging but they're I guess hanging...hm...) and someone greeting you at the door to welcome you in, this place spelled out Classy. I've seen many wedding banquet halls and this one rates very highly, but not quite #1. Beautiful decoration, great service, an all-around wonderful experience. read more

We recently attended a family wedding on July 4th. The venue was absolutely gorgeous! There was an outdoor ceremony followed by cocktail with passed hors d'oeuvres and specialty drinks. Throughout the event, the staff had been very courteous and extremely attentive. Even the bartender was top notch with the drinks & espresso! The wedding menu was bountiful and delicious! A salad was served for starters of Arugula and Frisse with crumbled goat cheese, dried cherry tomatoes sherry and shallot vinaigrette. For the first course, it was Antipasto(Prosciutto & Salami, Melon Slices, Marinated Mushrooms,Grilled Peppers, Bocconcino, and Herbed Olives), followed by Duo Pasta Presentation-penne with tomato & basil sauce with grated parmesan and cheese tortellini in an herbed cream sauce, and the entree- Grilled New York Strip loin Steak with a Bourbon Glaze and Baked Boneless Breast of Chicken with a Lemon Herb Crust in a White Wine Sauce. There was also a seafood platter of Grilled Shrimp, Calamari, Mussels, and Halibut with Lemon and Olive Oil Emulsion. And, for dessert, invidiual Tiramisu served in a Chocolate Cup with Kahlua Anglaise and Compote of Berries. For the kids menu, my daughter was served mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce for the appetizer, followed by penne with basil and tomato sauce, and the entree of chicken fingers and fries with plum sauce & ketchup. For the dessert, it was ice cream sundae with chocolate brownie. There was an open bar where espresso could be requested as well. Late night included live DJ, non-stop dancing, and of course, who can forget the sliders, desserts, and coffee station? It was a definitely memorable wedding. The only negative factor were the washrooms (as the Canadians refer to) since it was located downstairs. Families and guests that were attending found it inconvenient particularly for the elderly and children. They had to walk up and down the stairs. There was an accessible washroom in the backroom of the banquet hall that was limited for handicapped & elderly. Great variety including eggs Benedict, specialized breakfast sausage that included a sarracci mayo with it. There was fried breakfast burritos & bacon donuts. Before I start, I'd like to say that this review is based on my experience PLANNING my wedding. On our first day of wedding venue shopping, we booked 2 tours the same day, One King West and the Liberty Grand. I won't compare the 2, because that isn't fair. 1. FIRST IMPRESSIONS - Our appointment was on Sat. Aug. 9 - It's not directly on the water, but you can clearly see the water and horizon just off of the entrances to the 2 ballrooms we were considering (the Centennial and the Renaissance) - The exterior of the building is stunning - There is a shared courtyard in the middle of the venue (the venue is shaped like a triangle) - We were seen for our appointment right on time 2. THE TOUR - We met with Cassandra (I had been in contact with Brian, but he was on vacation that week) - She was really nice, and knew her stuff (as all sales reps should) - We took a look at the 2 smaller ballrooms (our numbers weren't high enough for the Grand Ballroom), who are mirror images of each other. I loved the high ceilings and chandeliers, but wasn't a huge fan of the carpeting or scratched dance floors. However, separate entrances allow for privacy for cocktails and such. - We went to see the Artifacts Room, an open concept room with a more modern flair. My fiance and planner both loved this room... nothing is affixed to the floor, so everything from the bar to the dance floor can be moved around. You can have colored up lights along the walls for some color. I wasn't into the polished concrete floor, but apparently people love it. Another con to this room was that the lobby is shared with the Grand Ballroom, so if there's another wedding going on, your guests will be mingling together. However, this room does have a private terrace. 3. POST- TOUR MEETING - We went over costs and options and were blown away by how much cheaper things were than other places we had been looking at online - We were also told that we were not bound to the menus listed... we could easily substitute options of similar value 4. THINGS TO MENTION - The packages start at 90/person (up to 105/person) and include the venue rental, tablecloths and plate settings, in-house sound equipment (this is a big deal and isn't included at most places), servers, bartenders, 7 hours standard host bar, bridal suite, tasting for 2, and a bunch of other things. - Any Liberty Group venue offers a package discount during the "off-season" -- January through March of 2015 and 2016 -- the Liberty Grand's discount was 15% - We were very interested in booking the Artifacts Room (the private terrace could make up for the shared lobby). LASTLY: ***5. WHY ONLY 2 STARS?!*** Honestly, when looking for our perfect venue, I was more concerned about the food and the photography, than the actual venue itself. Though the ballrooms were a bit tired-looking, the Artifacts Room was beautiful. I was SERIOUSLY considering this as our ultimate venue. The low price plus all the things INCLUDED in the price were seriously amazing... all that would've been left was dress, tux, flowers, photography. HOWEVER, we were told after our appointment that the official quotes would be drawn up and sent to us by Monday evening (2 days later). A week later, we still hadn't heard a word from Cassandra, so I called the Liberty Grand. She was in the office, so I spoke to her and she told me that she HAD sent over the quotes days ago, but might have written my email down wrong. I gave her my email again (it is LITERALLY my name, nothing complicated), and she said she would send it over before the end of the day... if it had already been sent, couldn't she just get on her computer and RESEND it at that moment? A few more days went by, and I sent an email to BOTH her and Brian (the other rep I was initially supposed to meet with), listing ALL MY OTHER EMAIL ADDRESSES. Needless to say, it is now the end of August, and I haven't heard a word. We went to the Eglinton Grand last week, and were COMPLETELY blown away by both the venue packages AND the amazing customer service... we've officially booked it for our wedding. All I have to say is, if I had received my wedding quote when I was supposed to, and KNOWING that it was going to be relatively low, we would have cancelled our Eglinton Grand appointment and booked the Liberty Grand weeks ago. However, seeing how they have handled potential clients (who had expressed EXTREME interest in booking the venue), I'm not sure I would have liked them handling my wedding anyway. read more

We were married here last year and I must say that the wedding was spectacular. We are still getting comments to this day from people who said it was the best wedding they ever went to. We held our reception in the Governor's Room which is the largest of the rooms. It has a great upper level area with leather sofas and a bar area overlooking the central courtyard that is excellent for a cocktail reception . The room itself is inspiring and unlike almost every hall in Woodbridge, the Liberty Grand requires no additional decoration to make it look nice. There were two bars in this room with windows overlooking the courtyard as it lights up in different colours throughout the night. When you hold your wedding at Liberty Grand you are assigned someone to look after all the details (contacting your vendors like the flowers, entertainment, etc). It's almost like having your own wedding planner. Food-wise everything was fantastic. We went with the traditional European plan and were a bit worried that it wouldn't taste as good as other European-specific halls. I can tell you that the food was phenominal and my mom, who is the pickiest eater, loved it. You also meet with the highly rated head chef who oversees the kitchen on the night that your wedding takes place. He was very receptive to our needs. We also had a singer and Dj for entertainment. Before seeing the venue the singer was adamant that he bring in his own equipment for himself and the band as all the venues he's been to always have substandard equipment. He went in to the Liberty Grand without us to meet with the person in charge of lighting and sound. He called us that night to tell us that he's never seen the advanced equipment they've had or the professionalism. Needless to say he was happy. Also, during the course of the night we were looked after by the head waiter and someone specifically assigned to look after the timing of the service. We never felt panicked and we were able to relax, have fun, and enjoy the evening. Also, four couples who attended our wedding now have their own weddings booked at Liberty. How's that for a compliment? Not sure how it's possible that the previous reviewer rated it a one star but whatever. Went here for a formal event. The service was pretty bad the servers looked like they were having the worst day of their life. The food there was three courses. The starter salad tasted like it came from a bag, a stuffed chicken with no taste with side of the tiniest vegetables you'll ever see, and a chocolate mousse dessert nothing special. I had my wedding at the Liberty Grand in August of 2010. The planning went relatively smoothly considering I was planning from afar. However, there was a hiccup when I went back to walk the venue again after signing the contract. While I was sold on exclusive entrance and exclusive bathrooms for my guests, that was in fact not the case. After extensive discussions with the management, they convinced us that we would never even realize that there were other events (i.e., 3 other weddings) going on at the same time. Imagine my surprise as I am dancing within a circle of friends and family to have a crasher come up behind me and inappropriately dance with me - THE BRIDE. I turned around and immediately started yelling at him and when I looked beyond him, I saw not 1, or 2, or 3 - but FOUR additional crashers mixed within my guests. They had come from another wedding that was taking place at the facility. The crashers are even in a handful of my wedding pictures, so I get to be constantly reminded of these incredibly inconsiderate, disrespectful people. Other guests also not only took over my "private outdoor seating area", which was supposed to be for my guests only, but one of them had actually vomited all over the couch and had passed out on the couch. And finally, one of the guests of another wedding vomited all over the men's bathroom - before 10PM! I had such high hopes for this venue given their experience with weddings, and I was definitely disappointed with the event - my own wedding. My husband and I have attempted to contact management to discuss all of these mishaps on numerous occasions, however, they have chosen to not respond. Therefore, I cannot recommend this venue to others. It's unfortunate that I have to look back on what should be the happiest night of my life and remember such stress and embarassment. read more

For the money that they charge, there are so many other places you can have an amazing wedding. This wasnt even my wedding and I was dissapointed for my friend having to spend so much money and in the end waste it. The food was bland and not appetizing. The service was rude and abbrasive. The per head cost is astronomical and for the price they charge the service should be impeccable. Im afraid not though. If you're a bride or groom looking to get married soon do yourself a favour and do not have your wedding here. Looks arent everything and there are better venues out there for this price! read more
