My family has worked with Liberty for decades, but at this point I have to find a new HVAC company. Over the years John, the owner, has been prone to making questionable comments that have evolved over time into outright racism ("working like a Mexican") and extended political rants about woke this and woke that. That may not be unwelcome in every household, but it's no longer welcome in mine. It's not even a matter of political alignment. I want my HVAC service apolitical. I want my HVAC serviced, not a political tirade.
For a time John's son, who is a wonderful individual, was coming out and things were good, but then I needed an extensive electrical repair and John came out to do the estimate. He told me what was needed to bring the wiring up to code and was adamant that was what was needed. The estimate was, if I recall correctly, $5,000. After getting a second estimate I was told that the upgrade John quoted was NOT necessary to bring things up to code and the job could be done for $2,000. Thinking that sounded too good to be true the second company had an inspector come out prior to the job for a consultation. The inspector confirmed that what John said was NOT needed. The job was completed for less than half of what John quoted and it passed inspection. If I had not gotten a second opinion I'd have paid $3,000 for an upgrade that I didn't need. To be clear, I don't believe John was trying to cheat me, but I do believe he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does.
After struggling with some time I called and said I'd like to continue working with them, but would not want John to be assigned to my house. They politely suggested I go elsewhere. If they can't assure me of professional conduct and competent work then that is what I will do. read more
