Don't get discouraged with the line, they have such a great system in place to get the line going. The price is worth it for the type of food you get. I went to Liberty Bagels for the first time when some friends came from out of town. Of course, they wanted some classic NYC bagels. Why not?! This spot ended up being chosen. I ordered the meat, egg and cheese with bacon on a toasted everything bagel. It was pretty great. Definitely something I would recommend if you're craving a satisfying breakfast sandwich. My friends went with the classic nova special, also on a toasted everything bagel. They really enjoyed theirs too. Finally had a chance to try the place that is home of the rainbow bagels as this has been on my list for a while. Of course, I got the rainbow bagel w/ bacon,egg, and cheese. Thanks to the space, their displays of schmears and lox present a visual treat, which complements the polished and brightly lit interior well. I value the quality and consistency of their breakfast bagel sandwiches. This time, I got The Works, a breakfast bagel sandwich with eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, & cheese. It tasted as I expected - savory, breakfast-y, and satisfying. It arrived piping hot. I would not ask for anything more from this. As an aside, the staff here seemed cordial. This location is quite busy and the line inside can get long (~25min) on weekends given it's close to Central Park and there is little seating inside. This one hurts to write because Liberty Bagels used to be my absolute favorite--the best egg bagel I've ever had. But yesterday was a big disappointment. We ordered egg, sesame, and salt bagels, and all three were dry, stale, and dense. We ate them there immediately, so this wasn't a timing issue. The staff member couldn't tell us which bagels were freshest and didn't try--just "I don't know," with attitude. Liberty has expanded a lot and leaned into the rainbow bagel hype, but based on yesterday's experience, the quality has gone downhill. This was also the first time I didn't take bagels home from here, which says a lot. I'm giving this a 2/5 only because the cream cheese is still excellent--but that should be second to the bagel itself, not the highlight. I hope this was just an off day. read more

My wife knew of Liberty Bagel from social media so when we were visiting NYC, she wanted to check them out. As expected, there was a long line, but it moved decently enough that we didn't wait as long as I had originally thought (though it did take over 30 minutes from start to finish). They have a system in place to do their best to move people along, but as there's lots of people ordering many different things, sometimes it just takes a long time for orders to come through. Not to mention it was clear a lot of people were ordering delivery because the store was a revolving door of food delivery people coming in and leaving with large bags of food. As far as the bagel goes, it was great. It was dense but not in a bad way. The texture was great, the toast was just right for my liking, and it was filling enough to get me through the morning. However, the rainbow colors of the liberty bagel and rainbow bagel we tried was just that: color. There as nothing extra special about those two bagels compared to other shops. You're going there for the Instagramable nature of the item. Honestly, if you are just in the mood for a good bagel, there are other options in the city that will have shorter lines. However, if you're here for fun and unique bagels, then Liberty Bagel is definitely worth checking out. The interior of the shop is small and tight (much like most places in NYC). There will be a lot of weaving in & out of people waiting for their food or waiting to order. If you are planning on eating your food there, good luck. There is very minimal seating inside as they need every square inch they can get to accommodate the crowds. I would honestly just plan on taking your food to go. There's plenty of places nearby to enjoy your meal such as Central Park which is a block or two away. So, would I avoid Liberty Bagel? Absolutely not. But would I wait in another line when I'm back in the city? Also probably not. It was a fun experience, my wife loved it, but I don't feel the need to rush back. read more

Came here at 8am on a Monday and placed an online order for pick up. Placed an order 5 minutes before we got there and our bagels were already ready for us. I went with a blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese and my boyfriend got the bacon, egg and cheese with scallion cream cheese on an onion bagel. Blueberry bagels are my favorite, so I was super excited to try one from New York. I'd say it was decent, but it felt like the bagel had been sitting for a while and wasn't fresh. With the variety that liberty bagels had, it's expected that every bagel isn't going to come out hot and fresh, but I think it would have elevated my experience had it been fresh. This was the first stop on my trip to New York City and it did not disappoint. We stayed about a 10 minute walk from here and made it our "go to" bagel shop while vacationing. Pros: 10/10 options for house made cream cheese. They have savory and sweet options. My absolute favorite was the lemon lox dill spread. They let you taste whatever you want. 9/10 bagels - different texture, very thick and some are doughy. The Asiago cannot be toasted, but instead comes out warm. I absolutely loved the pumpernickel bagel! The classic "rainbow bagel" was a little sweet, definitely a must try. They also have a large variety of bagel sandwiches with eggs, meat, etc. Cons: - it's a grab and go place. Very minimal seats so just plan ahead to walk and eat. There is a standing bar, but it can get busy when there is a line. -expect lines on the weekend and having to stand outside. On Friday the line took about 20 minutes around 9:30 am, but on a Monday we walked right up to the front Overall, a must try while in NYC. My husband and I visited NYC in January 2025. We heard all the hype about Liberty Bagels. Spoiler alert - these bagels live up to the hype! There are several locations scattered around the city. This one in particular is close to the 5th Avenue and to Central Park (across from the Apple Store). I was surprised that it was not as busy as other LB locations seen in social media, but we did try to come between 7-8am and had the place to ourselves. Just once we came after 10am and there was a bit of a line, but nothing too crazy. Ordering ahead is also available online. The best part is the variety of cream cheese and bagels available. There are savory and sweet flavors to choose from. Think of a gelato shop, but instead it's mountains of cream cheese of all flavors you can think off. My go-to order was the egg + scallion cream cheese on a whole wheat bagel (not toasted). Although a bit pricey, it's so worth it because it's a generous portion size. Only once during our trip we tried a different bagel shop aside from LB and the bagels at LB reign supreme - they are the perfect balance of soft and chewy texture. The only caveat we experienced at LB was the poor customer service. We visited this shop three days of our trip. As I mentioned, the shop wasn't crazy busy any of these times we visited. One would think the cashier could be a bit more patient and take her time to assure orders are correct. On our last day, Jenna (the cashier) charged me for a cream cheese bagel instead of the egg + cream cheese bagel. When I brought it up, she said they were already making it so I had to order the egg on the side. She charged me for egg on the side, which turns out to be more expensive than getting it together on the bagel sandwich. I was disappointed at the lack of service recovery. I think it is unfair for the customer to have to pay more when it was the cashier's mistake. There is no need to rush customers, as there wasn't other customers at the time. Other than this caveat, I still recommend LB to my friends visiting NYC. If I could rate categories separately, without a doubt I would rate its food taste, quality, and location all 5 stars. I look forward to trying LB again on my next NYC trip. One last tip - this is a place worth carrying cash on hand, as they charge more if you pay with a credit card. read more
