They really should call this little Art Store by the Sea the "Hodge-Podge-Garage Art Lodge!!!" It…read moreis a splendid little mess inside that store! Once you step inside, you will see an assortment of high-end paint knives, and paint brushes, then a wall of highly pigmented, high-end, high priced paints! Oils, acrylics, watercolors - oh my! They carry the best brands!!!! (Call the bank and take out a loan!) I had to buy an Ampersand 16 X 20 " flat gesso board today, and none of the other art stores carry this brand because it is very high-end. One friendly and helpful lady helped to locate the proper canvas for my art class that I'm taking, and they give art students 20% off. Just be sure to tell them you are an art student. I wandered around the store for a long time- ( mortals fall into a deep spell while shopping in this artsy-fartsy place) - and I found unexpected items strewn all over the place. (Is this where the Muse hangs out? I hear this is her secret hiding place!) It made me smile! If you are in need of a purse, or a fashionable necklace to bring to your art class, they have it here. Do you need a painting apron? They have many to choose from. If you need to brew a pot of tea, they have teapots. Do you need to store magic seeds in glass jars? They have a bevy of jars! No two are the same! If tonight is bowling night, they even have a bowling ball in there for you! (not joking!) If you need baskets, they have baskets. If you are in need of an easel, canvases, clay, embroidery thread, pencils, markers and framing - Laguna Art Supply has it all! Does your street need a new stop sign at the corner? They even have a stop sign in that store for sale! It's a kick and a giggle to shop there! Their prices are not low. So bring your piggy bank, and break the bank! This is a fun place to shop. They have the hard-to-find-art-supplies that Michael's and Hobby Lobby don't stock. I love Michael's and Hobby Lobby too, don't get me wrong. They totally ROCK! But for a fun time, drive into Laguna Village, pay the meter and shop until you drop at Laguna Art Supply!!! Peace/LOVE/Art! X O X O X O

I haven't been here in about 20 years but Jen wanted to check it out…read more I bought our tickets online for $12.50 each and we took the free Summer Breeze Trolley from Irvine, which for Labor Day weekend was a great choice. We both enjoyed checking out all the booths and artists, with Jen having her favorites and same with me. Loved learning about their passion, especially Sue Thompson and the husband/wife glass blowers. Jen liked the Italian landscapes and nature photos. I picked up a small photo of Jackass Penguins forming a heart for both Jen and I. I felt it symbolized us in a way. The food lines were a bit long, but we did get some green tea that was refreshing on a hot/humid day. We look forward to coming back or at least checking out the local galleries.

The Sawdust Art Festival was a lot of fun! While I didn't buy much because of the high prices, it…read morewas still nice to walk around and check out the work from local artists. If you plan to park in the Sawdust lot, I'd recommend getting there very early. We had no trouble finding parking about an hour before Sawdust opened, then grabbed breakfast nearby. There are also cheaper lots within walking distance. I did find the prices to be very expensive overall. You have to pay to park, to get in, pay for food and drinks, pay for the art, and so on. There was even a tip jar in the very clean bathrooms! I'm not sure if this is because it's an expensive area or just a reflection of the current economy, but I definitely felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed. If you're just going to look around, you can get away with only paying the entry fee and parking. I was disappointed to find that not all of the artists were there, and the policies regarding purchasing art at the front of Sawdust weren't very clear and seemed to vary from booth to booth.
