Opie before grooming
Michelle W.

Opie has found his forever home!!! I am so thankful for Lhasa Happy Homes and their love and dedication to finding FOREVER HOMES for the dogs that have found their way to their care. I worked with Randee and Deanna, both were kind, helpful and dedicated to finding the RIGHT home for each dog. I found Obie, now Opie, on their website and attended their adoption day in Santa Monica on July 13, 2025. There was about 10-12 dogs looking for their forever homes. Many families attended the bi-monthly event and it looked like several dogs had families who were very interested in adoption. There was about 4-5 Lhasa Happy Homes caregivers/employees who were available to provide information for each available dog. They answered all my questions and had a few of their own. Opie is a chill floppy Shih Tzu who has blended in PERFECTLY with our family. He has a new BFF named Lola who is very excited to have a playmate and someone to show him the ropes. They get along very well. Thank you Lhasa Hapoy Homes. I am forever grateful that you chose ME from the 67 inquiries to entrust Opie with my care and love... and his FOREVER HOME!

Taking Betty home
Audrey J.

Lhasa happy homes made our dreams come true!!! Our entire adoption experience was a breeze--from the time we applied online (their website is so informative, easy to navigate, application was easy to fill out) to the adoption event where we met our future fur baby (in Santa Monica, street parking and after the meet and greet, we walked across the street for some yummy brunch at a cafe), through the next few weeks of waiting because she had to be quarantined in case of kennel cough & she had some tummy issues from spending time in the shelter (in which Randee, the founder, was the sweetest and updated us on how she's doing the entire time ) and to the day that we finally got to take her home--Randee made the entire process so enjoyable and stress-free! We haven't had a dog in a decade and she answered all our silly questions and gave us helpful advice in a neatly arranged adoption packet! She even included her own doggie food slow cooker recipe in that packet that I will definitely try to make. You can seriously tell that this rescue does this out of pure love and intense hope that they will find the right kind of people for the dogs to find their forever homes. We initially applied for another dog, but found out he wasn't going to do well in a house without another dog for company. We were sad at first but Randee worked her magic and matched us with Betty. She ended up truly being the perfect dog for our young family! Thank you for finding Betty and for taking care of her and dotting the i's and crossing the t's by getting her physical exam, giving her flea meds, keeping her vaccines updated, making sure she's spayed, and basically starting us off for success as pet parents! Thank youuu so much Randee and Lhasa Happy Homes!

Dinkie!!

This is the best rescue in Los Angeles. Randee cares DEEPLY about the dogs and only saves those that were neglected by others. She fights harder than anybody in the community. The dogs are also ALL such wonderful and beautiful pups. I adopted my soul dog from Lhasa Happy Homes fifteen years ago and this dog literally saved my life. 10/10 would recommend!!

Randee is an amazing person. We could tell that her main concern are the dogs. She wants to make sure they are placed with the right family that will love & care for them FOREVER. This was our first pet adoption and she responded to us within 48 hours after the submission of our application. We were not left wondering if our application was reviewed unlike other adoption places. We understood wholeheartedly & respected her selection process for the right family. This was a great first experience for us and we were blessed to adopt 2 loving dogs that were truly meant for us. We will definitely adopt from Randee again and have recommended her to our friends and family that are true dog lovers. Thank you Randee & Leah for granting us with these 2 addition to our family

We adopted our boy from Lhasa Happy Homes and we're so grateful to them. The whole process was completely pain-free, we were able to meet him at their event in Santa Monica before we filed an application and Randee made sure that we were comfortable and confident every step of the way. She was very accommodating and helpful with the whole process and we couldn't recommend them more highly.

Archie (on left) and Oscar's first meeting during LHH adoption event
Lena W.

We do not have enough words to express our gratitude and appreciation for Randee, Leah, and all the wonderful volunteers at the Lhasa Happy Homes (LHH) rescue organization! We were looking for another dog companion for our beloved dog Oscar (3-year-old Shih Tzu mix) who we rescued from a local shelter. He is very sweet and affectionate, but also very passive, anxious, and shy. Oscar yearns to play with another dog, but he is very picky on who he wants to play with. We lost his older sister (a Maltese mix whom Oscar adored) earlier this year unexpectedly and we were devastated. When it was the right time, we started researching rescue organizations instead of shelters because it was our top priority to find the right fit for Oscar and where he would be able to interact with the dog. We found LHH online and was immediately drawn to their story, mission, and how thoughtful and thorough they described each of their available dog's profiles. We are also biased to Shih Tzu/Maltese/small dogs and love that LHH specializes in these breeds. At one of the LHH adoption events in Santa Monica, we met Randee and Leah who we introduced to Oscar and they listened to what type of dog we wanted for him (similar in age and size, playful, confident, and not dominant). They recommended Archer and allowed us to let the dogs interact/play in the dog park behind the event. Unfortunately, Oscar was very shy with everything going on and did not interact much with Archer. However, Oscar allowed Archer to sit next to him for us to take pictures so we took that as a good sign. We asked Randee and Leah if we could have a second visit in a quieter/less public setting to see if Oscar would feel more comfortable and then see how he does with Archer. Leah arranged for us to have them meet at Urban Dog (wonderful Dog day care/boarding facility) where Archer was staying. During this second visit, we got to know Archer further and saw his happy-go-lucky and confident personality that we knew would be a good balance for Oscar. Oscar showed us a few more signs that Archer is right for him, including sharing a tennis ball with Archer. We decided to move forward with the adoption process for Archer and we were approved to adopt him. Once we brought Archer home (we renamed him to Archie), within 5 minutes, Oscar started playing with Archie and they have been inseparable ever since! Archie and Oscar are the best of friends and Archie perfectly complements Oscar and brings Oscar out of his shell. We also noticed right away how well-behaved Archie is, from almost potty trained to walking well on a leash and listening to basic commands (sit, wait, and come). This is a true testament to how well the LHH team takes care of their rescue dogs, and absolutely prepares them for their best life in their future furever home! Archie is the perfect fit for our household and we love him very much! And it's also truly amazing how we have become part of the LHH family and we love to share updates on Archie and Oscar with Randee and Leah, and then see our photos posted (along with all the other LHH grads) on Instagram! We are honored to be part of an organization whose tireless and selfless work truly rescues the lives of these wonderful dogs and the humans who are lucky enough to adopt them! THANK YOU Randee, Leah, and the LHH team!

I am leaving this review because if it hadn't been for Randee and this group, I never would have met my soulmate Tedi. I used to run a dog rescue many years ago, and I see that most of the 1 star reviews are because people feel like Randee's adoption practices are over the top. Maybe they are (just a tad) but when you take in these most neglected and abused dogs, you tend to feel a bit protective. I know this from experience. I volunteered with her at one point, and our philosophies on some things were different, but this woman CARES DEEPLY for what she does- and let me tell you, it's a heartbreaking deal to run a dog rescue. We see a lot you don't even want to hear about. Frankly, I'm surprised she's still at it because the burn out rate is high. But she's still plugging away and I'm glad! Anyhow, I fostered Tedi before I adopted her, she was my third foster- I wanted to find a good home for her but my darling girl had some issues. Randee let me help decide who a good fit would be and I decided to go ahead and adopt her myself. She blossomed into the most wonderful dog EVER and I loved her feisty personality. I loved her more than anything and recently lost her due to heart failure. She was 12, and we had 10 amazing years together. How fast time flies. If you want to rescue a dog from this place, it's worth the extra bit of time. Randee puts her crazy little heart into this organization- I say that with affection (all of us dog ppl are a little nuts!). I would have missed out on the love of my life had I overlooked this organization. I'll miss my Tedi every minute of everyday.

Adoption day with my 2 new pups--Eddie & Elias
Sara M.

I adopted my pups!! I stopped by one of their adoption days in Santa Monica & fell in love with Elias--I started the application process (which was thorough) & also applied for Eddie. There was an interview with Randy & an in-person meetup to see if the pups got along together (which was 2 hours). I was helped by Leah & Deanna (I think that was her name). I loved how seriously everyone took their job of finding these pups their furr-ever home. I also got to meet their foster parents & was given all the insights + tips about the new members of my family. It's clear everyone loves what they do. Thank you so much, Lhasa Happy Homes!!

It's an extension of the PD so their campus isn't huge, and they have one building of dogs and a room (plus a quarantine room) for cats. They're half police and half animal control essentially so they have to respond to field calls as well as keep up the facility. For all that work they still have welcoming attitudes. That's one of the biggest complaints I hear working at the shelter is no one cares and staff is unsympathetic. Not so here. Not when I came on a Saturday eve anyway. As I said it's a small spot for a small city. Santa Monica has better government than LA, not in small part due to the land area they cover, quantity wise and demographic wise. My biggest gripe about LA is it's too big which is why gov is so inefficient. It needs to be broken up into more smaller cities. Right now we just have SaMo, culver city, and WeHo with proper municipal status basically. This whole city is like 10 more cities to me. But I digress. But despite this and the recent negative reviews, I went anyway. There needs to be more oversight with this particular facility. The people there clearly do not know what they're doing, are very unprofessional, unorganized, and rude. I adopted a kitten who was still quite sick, despite being reassured several times that she had recovered. They adopted me out a cat was too small to get spayed, and did not have her first round of shots. I have had to make several appointments with them, missing work in the progress, all because of their lack of organization, communication, and professionalism. It's tough writing a review like this because I understand that it might affect other people visiting this humane shelter and adopting out beautiful animals that deserve a home, so I hope this reaches someone in charge and they rethink who is running this facility.

The staff here is always kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful. They consistently go above and beyond -- from answering my questions to carrying heavy bags of litter out to my car. What I love most is that they only carry premium-quality products. You won't find low-end brands like Friskies here -- and that's exactly why I shop at Centinela. I care deeply about what I feed my cats, and I trust the quality of the food, treats, toys, beds, and everything else they offer. Another bonus: they frequently have member-only specials (membership is free -- you just sign up with your email or phone number). Sometimes it's 20% off frozen food, other times 30% off all food -- it's always a pleasant surprise, and I like to stock up during those sales. This store truly has everything you need, and the personalized service makes it even better. On top of that, it's a locally owned business, not a big corporate chain like Petco or PetSmart. Supporting Centinela means supporting a small, community-based store -- and that's something I'm proud to do. I absolutely love this store and can't recommend it highly enough. If you care about your pets and want quality products with warm, personal service, Centinela Feed & Pet Supplies is the place to go.

These negative reviews are shocking as I've had nothing but a great experience working with Venita!…read moreI emailed to inquire about adopting one of the Ragdolls that they had rescued from a breeder. Venita was always prompt with her responses and was very transparent when telling me about the cats. I filled out the application and scheduled a day to meet her at their vet where she was bringing two cats that she was allowing me to choose from. She was lovely during our meeting and I decided on a Ragdoll named Tina, now Harmony. She had some medical issues, a cloudy eye that would never heal and one kidney that is smaller than the other. All of which she was transparent about and gave me all of her vet records. My only regret is that I didn't adopt the other girl she brought with her but as I had two cats and a dog at home, I thought it was too much. Even after the adoption Venita was still great with answering questions via text. My new girl is a bit crazy and a bully so I reached out to see if she had any advice. She was always so gracious and offered lots of advice. Some months later I saw she had rescued some exotic kittens and I inquired about adopting one so she would have a kitty more her age and take the heat off my older boy. Venita was very honest and expressed she would be a bit concerned as kittens are fragile and if Harmony wasn't bullying my boy then she would've gladly adopted one to me but she didn't think the fit was right. I completely understood and respected her decision. I have since adopted a Balinese elsewhere, he is even crazier than Harmony but she has calmed some lol. I reached out to her a few months back when someone on IG reached out to me asking if I could adopt their Persian as he was leaving the country. While I couldn't, I text Venita to see if she'd be open and she responded immediately and said she would. The man wound up finding a relative to take the cat but Venita was ready to rescue that baby. These negative reviews sound pretty ridiculous to me. First people are busy and may not always respond especially when there is an overwhelming response, don't take it personal. Then one where she wanted to fix a cat with behavioral issues, well coming from one who has two like this, you don't fix them. I would've denied her too. Then the race thing, what? Venita did not know my race via email nor did she ask. She didn't look at me as if I was unworthy and she was nothing but professional and courteous. I think some people just get upset because they can't take rejection. Trust me, if you are denied it's for good reason!
