This place has new owners and it has gone way down hill. They jacked up prices and are not friendly.

We were really blown away by the drinks and the food.We stopped an employee to ask what he had just served someone. He brought back out a pan to show us the size of the nachos. Hated that we didn't get a picture but the nachos were loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, fresh jalapeños, beans, and beef. The four of us shared an order and a half. We loved them. You have got to come here.

It was out in the open space and not in any town which gave it a nice country vibe. Upon entering we wanted some beer after our journey and we were hungry! For my beer choice I got a Cream Ale named 1845 SBC Premium Ale. This was a solid cream ale. Not as sweet as some that I have come across but refreshing and pleasant all the same. I felt like this beer truly hit the spot! It was sweet but also crisp and clean too as we were adjusting to the Texas heat. We tried a few other beers that were in the area as well or from Texas, guest taps. As I said we were hungry and we decided to get a pizza. I don't remeber really the exact name of it but it was a combination type that had peppers, mushrooms, tomato and sausage. We also split a beef sandwich. We were very hungry! But we left very satisfied and Smithville Brewing proved to be a good stop!

I got the large cranberry pecan spring mix salad and thought it was very good. I wondered about the size, because this is the first time I have ever finished a large salad. But the taste was good. My friend got the Cuban sandwich and opted for the pasta salad instead of a side salad. The pasta salad was good but he said the sandwich, and the way it was smashed down a little, made it really chewy and very hard to eat. He ended up putting the inside of the sandwich on just one piece of bread and that helped. Afterward, I got one of their chocolate peanut butter cookies and it was delicious! The staff was very friendly and they even came to our table to take our order because we did not realize we were supposed to order at the counter. It looked like they had a nice wine selection so I may go back for a glass of wine with a friend but I doubt I would go back for a full meal again. I will say that we chose to sit at one of their small two person tables and I would never do that again. It was a metal table that bent and sort of popped up every time I would lean against it. Choose the wooden tables if you go!

When we were poking around looking for breweries in the area on Yelp we came across The Shady Llama! This place doesn't make their own beer but they have lots of guest taps for breweries in the surrounding area. It's a good variety of beers to choose from and it looks like there is at least one food truck available sometimes in case you get hungry. The main draw for why we came here was to see the llamas and indeed we dis see some. One of them gave us some attitude and then sauntered off down a hill, taking it's less moody companion with it. They were funny and with the attitude I got and the name of the place I posted the Eminem song "My Name Is" where the lyrics "Slim Shady" get mentioned on Instagram because I thought it was all quite fitting. In addition to seeing the llamas we saw a great view of Hill Country. There was a lot of seating when we were here and could pick pretty much anywhere we wanted to sit. But I'm sure the place can get busy... the location and those llamas are reason enough. Cold beer, moody llamas and beautiful Hill Country... definitely worth the stop!

This business is more of a taphouse with lots of guest taps and lots of bottles and cans to go. Many of them are from local breweries or Texas breweries so that made this a great stop when we are hanging out in the hotel room and wanting to share a beer. It can be misleading coming to places like this that they are a brewery that makes their own beer but I saw no sign or indication of such a thing here. But since we weren't local there were plenty of brews to try that were local. I got a great Pecan Porter that was very tasty and a nice beer to unwind to despite it being a bit warm outside (which is usually when I want light beers). The place was fairly busy but Bastrop is a bit of a touristy town and the location of this place is right downtown so it makes sense. Anyway it was a good experience coming here!
