If you're looking for rock, gravel, or outdoor flooring or wall type material this is your spot. I…read morevisited recently on my search for raw materials to duplicate a stacked stone landscaping wall. I have a contractor on standby, willing to do the work if I supply the materials. I've been carrying around one of the stones to match up but am finding most stone yards have business hours the same as I work. Fortunately I was able to get to Penn Stone since they're located in Lancaster City by the Clipper Stadium before closing with some time to browse. I went inside their office to inquire on how this works. A nice gentleman took my name and wrote it on a long piece of yellow tape. This is how you "tag" your materials, similar to how you would a Christmas tree. He lead me straight to the area I needed to be after looking at my sample stone. I was able to find a pretty close match within 5 minutes. Here's when things got tripped up. A skid is $290 and included delivery, however they don't deliver that small of quantity. So you have to tag, pay, and wait until they get a big order in your area (not even a bunch of small orders) for it to be delivered. While he said they are in my area "often", with a contractor on standby there was just too many variables to commit. I even offered to pay extra for delivery with a firm day, which they said they can't do. The stone yard is only 5 miles away. I wish they had more delivery options available. I did find their prices inline with other local stone supplies I've researched online. Who knows, if I am able to work something out with my contractor I may be back to place the order, however do feel that's a pretty crappy policy for delivery. Also worth noting, while the office closes at 5, the stone yard is only available till 4:30 - it's dirty, uneven, and dusty, although organized well if you know what you're looking for. Be mindful of what shoes you wear. I came straight from the office so my sandals were filthy when I left. Parking was also confusing - I had no idea where I should park so I parked in the stone yard itself. If coming from the east, be careful as there's a blind corner you need to cross to access their property and cars were flying thru. There's a nice "sample" outdoor space highlighting some of the products available that's beautiful and could be a source of inspiration or a relaxing spot to decide on how to proceed.

If you know or care about the difference between an MDF cabinet box with laminate doors and a plywood one with solid maple doors, you will appreciate this place. They have everything you need to finish a home on the interior and exterior. Doors, windows, siding, flooring, cabinets, tubs, on and on. There are some deals, some not. Know your prices headed in. Inventory varies and if their website has it, it may be for order, or only available when they randomly get stock. They are conscientious about what they have or don't if you call ahead, but were a little impatient with a longer list. Their website says "We pride ourselves on providing excellent sales and delivery services to the Cecil County, Harford County, northern Baltimore County, New Castle County, Delaware and Chester County, Pennsylvania areas," but they do not go as far as the PA counties mentioned, at least not for homeowner orders. So be local or be prepare to haul stuff home. Made a trip today but they didn't have what I needed in a price competitive with another liquidator, though they definitely had great deals compared to Depot, Lowe's and my supplier. Had I not known of my other source, I definitely would've still saved 40% on fiberglass entry doors, and about 15% on fiberglass patio doors. They also offer a much better selection than a home improvement box store.

Made no mention of needing a seam nor did they ask our approval for seam placement. Only after install were we able to see that they added a seam right in the middle of our countertop, it is extremely visible and uneven. After reaching out about the issue, Classic Granite was uncooperative and made an excuse about a "seam policy" that we were never told about previously and wasn't disclosed on our paperwork. We were so overwhelmed with the project, things were behind a few weeks, we had to move out of the short term rental. With that in mind, that we decided to address things later. Now our contractor is ready to get this behind us and someone from the crew was to meet him at our house, gave a two hour time frame. They arrived and hour and a half beyond that time frame. No one seemed to understand nor speak any English. Guy shook his head a few times, stuttered factory finish, then walked out the door and quickly took off in the company van. I am surprised I did not see rubber marks on the drive! The counters in our kitchen and other bathrooms are fine, which is why I gave a three star vs one. This counter is clearly not factory finished and someone at Classic accepted it and passed it on to us. Now here we are . . .

After visiting two other retailers, with one finding an exact match, I learned that there was so much more to this adventure than just finding stone. Delivery is also a consideration, as well as how they place the stone, which is something I hadn't thought of previously. I know consider myself somewhat educated. As far as delivery goes, in my situation, which a contractor on standby I needed someone who could provide a firm delivery date. Also, most retailers will "drop" the stone (meaning it gets dumped or slid off a truck and can/will break). While some will provide forklift service for yet an additional fee for gentler handling of the stone, Drohan provides crane or forklift service included in their $100 delivery fee. That combined with good customer service, the product I needed at a decent price, and ease of purchase made this a no brainer. I just hope the install of my product is as effortless! Some things to know: Drohan does not install these materials - which extend beyond rock, to brick and masonry supplies, patio grills and furniture, and other hardscaping materials and tools. They have an assortment of samples on various features (outdoor fireplaces/pits, patios, walls, etc) installed so you can see the final product. The stone yard has an abundance of materials to choose from, and you can choose and tag your stone pallet. Jaryd provided excellent customer service before and during the sale, and my delivery is on the books. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. So while I don't see myself buying stone/brick/block on the regular I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
