So ill start this review by explaining that we were a group of starving adults roaming the town for…read morean hour, going from restaurant to restaurant unable to unanimously decide where to eat until finally giving up and stumbling into this little place. Can confidently say that i am glad we did. Let me start with the excellent service - we showed up at this restaurant 20 minutes before closing time and were welcomed with warm smiles and a simple yet friendly atmosphere. In our starving desperation, we shamelessly ordered an outrageous amount of food (double what was needed), all the while thinking surely this must be the friendly owners worst nightmare when they were clearly closing up shop. However instead of doubling over in cardiac arrest, the little man behind the counter nodded encouragingly and recommended appropriate sides. The meal was mostly prepared before us with the chicken and lamb skewers cooked to perfection over charcoal and the rice, salad and bread prepared in the back. Everything was served warm within half an hour. I have enjoyed Afghan Cuisine at several different restaurants, including much better known establishments and can say that the food served here definitely stood its own in terms of authenticity and deliciousness. Yes, definitely enjoyed every bite, from the succulent charcoaled chicken chunks down to the fluffiest rice i have ever tasted. All the while the owner kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. Stomachs full we mentally prepared for what we thought would be a wallet destroying bill. Instead our minds were pleasantly blown by how cheap the bill was and infact went back to confirm that he had charged us the right amount for everything we ordered. So there you have folks - Excellent Service, Amazing food and Awesome prices. It doesnt get better than that.

Without a doubt the worst take away I have had in the past decade (at least , maybe 20 years)…read more It took 2.5 have hours for the delivery, when it's located 8mins from my house, we kept phoning and were always advised the drivers 10 minutes away. Then the delivery driver called to say he's at our door but the lady doesn't want the food and where are we. He was in a suburb 30 minutes away. The Food arrived completely cold but, the temperature wasn't even the main complaint. The food had no flavour, looked like half eaten left overs and stunk, pretty much a dogs breakfast. So if you have a spare 2.5 hours and would like to eat a cold dogs breakfast I would recommend this to you, If not stay away. Since it was like a dogs breakfast i I tried to give some of it to my dog but, he spat it out and went out in the garden and ate some grass instead.

My Mother and I were in the neighbourhood and needed a feed. Yelp of course lead me to this fine family restaurant just off Goodwood road. Easily spotted with colourful signage on the road. Sumac staff are quiet, but are really friendly and welcoming. They are very happy to walk you through the menu if you are unsure of what items are. Some of them I had not heard of before. My Mum and I love to sample everything, and there isn't really much we don't like. So we of course went for the Shashlik Platter. It comes with three different styles of Shashlik, hummus, baba ganoush, home-made pickles, tabouli, salad with crispy pita, spiced rice and garlic sauce. All of that for $24.90! So awesome! We actually thought it would be smaller, so we ordered a plate of falafels as well. And yes, we definitely had stuff to take home. My fave on the platter was the hummus, pickles & chicken shashlik. All very flavoursome and well spiced. Wow, that garlic sauce is really intense, but also amazing on the pita bread. The falafels were fresh, but not as fluffy as I would have liked. They were full of fresh herbs though, so that made up for that! A huge menu to choose from, so be prepared to take a while to decide. You will really love this place!

Rumi Palace is run by and cooked by a Genuine Muslim Afghan family. It's not a true romantic restaurant location but it's not a food court or chain restaurant either. The flavours and tastes are amazing. The food is more on the Persian end of Afghan food but it's distinctive. It's not greasy or salty and whilst some dishes have chilli, most have great subtle flavours and aromas coming from turmeric and other flavours. Try the dumplings! The lamb shanks are also divine. They are a little slow but that's because most dishes are made from scratch and prepared on the spot without microwaves or Bain Marie's. Great, simple but fine flavoured meat (lamb mostly) and vegetable dishes and nice deserts. BYO only due to Muslim owners but there is BWS at Norwood shopping arcade open till 8 every night.

I will go here before any of the rest! I really love Afghan food. It just tastes so homely. Like most Afghan restaurants, you will notice a family working together and producing some amazing meals. You can see the time and effort they have put in to plan their restaurant. There is a little "special" seating area set up in the back with pillows on the floor and a round table for groups. They have also really tried to lift the space with some traditional looking tiles that are so colourful and vibrant! It was hard to make a decision with this menu, there are some great choices. I also could see that they offer special meals on certain days of the week. I recall seeing a special lamb shank; I look forward to return to try that one. Afghan dumplings and traditional chicken kebabs were too good not to order! If you have not already tried an Afghan dumpling, you need to. They are generally filled with the most delicious vegetarian fillings and served with lamb sauce and cream. Oh, these were just perfect! Beautiful bundles of lentils and vegetables covered in perfectly seasoned tomato and lamb based sauce. Nice work! The Chicken Kebab was different to what I expected. The meat was cut in a lot larger portions and it was served on top of pita bread. With some additional bread and salad to the side. I thought this would be served to make a wrap, but no worries. The chicken was so full of flavour, cinnamon, turmeric, onions, and vegetables. Not sure on the other spices, but it was not hot. It tasted so fresh! Yup, I agree with the other reviews, you need to check this one out when you are in Norwood! My only suggestion to the owners would be to look at offering some banquet options with different pricing! I think a lot of customers would love that option. It is the type of cuisine that you want to just try a little bit of everything!

Well, well, well.. this restaurant is going to be some fierce competition for it's neighbours…read more What can I say... I think I have found my new favourite affordable lunch spot in Adelaide. There is so much I love about this small restaurant. Afghan food is amazing wherever you try it. But these guys take it to a whole new level. It is so fresh and homely. This is really the family cooking for you. You really can taste the love and skill they put into their food. In Adelaide, burgers are the flavour of the month (or maybe flavour of the last two years). Kutchi Delhi give the burger joints a run for their money offering something different than just a beef patty. The Chapli Kebab (Traditional Afghan Burger) is amazing. Just thinking about this burger as I write this is making me hungry. The lamb patty is light, spiced and herbed. It is complimented with tomatoes, lettuce and coriander. But best of all a mouth watering yoghurt minted sauce. This marries with the lamb so well. To finish,it is all placed in a traditional flat bread which is fresh and light. Don't get me wrong though, this is a super filling meal. But it is not fatty and heavy like your normal burger, and maybe why it is more appealing to me. As for the rest of the menu, I have only tried the Bolani with leek and feta (panfried turnover) served with the same amazing yoghurt sauce. This was awesome, and I think would be a great hangover cure! I am told that the Mantu Dumplings are to die for. So that is my next pick when I drop in. This food is easy to eat, and I believe appeals to all palates. Give it a go, and thank me later.

Great Middle Eastern food and an awesome interior designed by Studio-gram (who also did the interior of Africola and Abbots and Kinney); make this a great spot to stop for lunch when you're in the East End. Both times I have visited I have taken part in the lamb chapli kebab with Afghan naan, salad and chutney and haven't been disappointed. I'll have to return to try more items from their delicious selection.

It's not big downstairs, but it is double story. Upstairs is really cosy with a few tables and chairs set up for small groups. Get a table near the window and enjoy the view of Grenfell Street. If you want some fresh air, there are tables outside on the street as well. So never fear. If you want a good quality yiros, you have picked the right place. The Yiros bread is really fluffy unlike others I have tried. Really tasty bread coupled with well seasoned meat (lamb, chicken, pork shaslic, pork sausage). One thing I did notice is that there was no rotisserie? So, I guess the meat is prepared in a different way. The yiros was a good size with a great helping of veggies & garlic sauce. Paired with a beer or wine for $18 is a bargain!
