We've always loved doing things that are train-related, so this was an easy decision. Riding the train? Even better, as I've always loved train travel. They have the coach, first class, and the new open-air cars. Those looked awesome, but since it was our anniversary weekend we were looking for a bit more. "A bit more" meant we got to rid in The Cab with the engineers! It was a totally awesome experience, sitting, literally, at the front of the train with the guys making the thing go. As I recall the engineers were Robert and Steve, and were really nice guys. They were funny and informative, and it was cool to see the "behind the scenes" while the train was in motion. The Cab wasn't as big as I expected it to be and the controls weren't really high-tech, then again this was a pretty vintage engine. It was fun as we heard them calling out commands and statuses to each other and with the conductor at the rear of the train. The scenery along the way is beautiful. Horse farms and rolling fields make for post-card ready photographs, and the limestone cuts along the way make you realize just how much work went into getting the track built back during the civil war. We were also told that, while the railroad ties are replaced very 25 years, the iron rails are still the original rails that were laid back then. Once we got to the end of the track we ended up at the Kentucky River, which was seriously cool. While it's no longer viable for river crossings it's still an awesome thing to see. We stopped there for about 15 minutes to take pictures and to take in the scenery. Back on board the train and now the Engine is pushing the train from the rear and the engineers and conductor continued their calls, making sure things were moving safely. Once back at the station it was time to disembark and visit the museum and gift shop, which doubles as the ticket booth. They have a nice array of souvenirs to chose from for anyone at any age. The museum is a bit on the small side compared to others we've been to, but at the same time it's perfectly sized for their operation. There is also a model train exhibit in one of the stationary rail cars, and a few other cars to check out on the grounds. We really enjoyed our visit and train ride - especially riding in The Cab - and we'll be back again. Looking at other reviews it makes absolutely no sense why someone would give this a 1-star rating because it was, in every sense, and absolutely awesome experience.

The cab I was picked up in was one of those explorer type vehicles (could have fit the government motorcade if it had all tinted windows). WHAT A STANDARD OF CHANGE FROM WHAT I THOUGHT A TAXI CAB ONCE WAS! The individual was really nice and we talked about his wife and how, we men, tend to get worn out from all the demands of life. LOL! He also told me of his upcoming "big fish" type of travel, $6k for a 3 day drop off and pick up for a customer. The taxi life is (using a gen z term to best describe this, might be out of context, but...) bussing. I even asked him how the introduction of Uber and Lyft had affected the taxi business and he stated that it led to a lot of them going out of business. He still has a stronghold because of his "loyal customer base." The only problem I have with this service is that the price is pretty steep. $4 a mile is pretty expensive. My itemized receipt: 40 for 8.8 miles (I think he rounded up) $4 for tax (when I think KY sales tax is like 6%, so somewhere around $2.20) $6 tip (I was kind of in a bind and was just glad someone could get me to work) $50 Just for comparison purposes: The vehicle I drive gets 31 mpg. If I were to drive the same distance, it would be 11/31 = 0.3549/gallons 0.3549 x 3.49 (gas price at the station I usually use) = $1.2386 IRS reimbursement rate 0.655/mile x 11 = $7.205 I would think reasonable would be around $25.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by some of the warmest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet. The hotel is locally owned, and that personal touch shines through in every aspect of the experience. Not only was the hotel incredible, but everyone we met throughout Paris, Kentucky, was exceptionally kind and welcoming. It felt like we were surrounded by friends everywhere we went. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The rooms were top-notch--beautifully appointed, spotless, and full of character. The horse and horse-racing theme throughout the hotel perfectly captures the spirit of Kentucky and adds a unique charm that makes this boutique hotel truly special. We originally came to Paris to visit a friend in rehab and chose to stay here during our trip. What we didn't expect was to leave with so many new friendships and wonderful memories. The hospitality we experienced was second to none. My wife and I will absolutely be returning, and if we can reserve a room at The Thoroughbred Hotel again, we won't hesitate. Next time, we're bringing our travel companions along because we're certain they'll love it every bit as much as we did. The room was beautiful and spotless, the bed super comfortable, and the waterfall shower rejuvenating. The horse racing theme and styling was so artfully done and charming. Our stay was so wonderful that we added another night to our trip. Chris, the owner, was super helpful in accommodating an early check-in and adding another night to our stay. Other staff was extremely helpful in answering questions and helping us with luggage. Parking was a breeze with streetside unloading spots and then a shared adjacent lot for our stay. Easy drive into Lexington. We will definitely stay here again.

It's nestled back into nature and right on the Kentucky River of course. We are full timers and have been living here for 4 months and we are going to be sad to leave. The campground is filled with everything you need. There's an awesome common room with tables a fridge stove TV/Cable also A WiFi Cafe (just ask for password) and laundry room. So many things all there for your use. There's also an awesome men's and womens restroom that they just redid the floors in and are now painting! Two showers each is very convenient. If you want a fire pit by your camper just ask! Most people here have their own. You may not be parked on the river. But it's just. Short walk and benches are available for enjoying the views. It's a very short walk to the water from anywhere in the camp. Most of the campers here are share holders and only come for the weekends so during the week it's very quite and relaxing. Many weekends there have been live bands and so many other fun activities going on! Every is usually friendly and polite. Don't forget to wave at your neighbors! Charles, Rus, and another gentleman (sorry I forgot your name) do an amazing job to accommodate you during your stay and work hard to make the campground what it is. Don't forget the office where you'll check in and such has items available for sale from sweets to t shirts.

Discovered this nice little Campground in Frankfort this weekend. Never knew this place existed…read more Quite little get away about 10 minutes off the interstate. No cell service down at the river which is just fine. Beautiful view of the Kentucky river and a great place for kids to just play and be kids. They have a wonderful meeting room that is good for family gatherings. Recommend this camp grounds if you have an RV and are wanting to get away for a few days.
