Dr. Grunch was chosen because she was the only one who'd suggested a disc replacement surgery wasn't just possible but was the best option based on age and quality of life factors. She was attentive and thorough. Following the procedure Dr. Grunch came into recovery to speak with us. She stated that based on what she found while doing surgery, and was not obvious in the MRI and x-rays, she could easily have gone the disc fusion path, however she kept in mind our discussions, consultations, and the desired quality of life which disc replacement provides better opportunity for better results. Because of this Dr. Grunch took the extra time and effort to stay the course and perform the Disc Replacement surgery. I've no doubt my family member, now 2 weeks post-op and doing quite well, will be much better off as a result. Dr. Grunch is an excellent surgeon and anyone needing back or neck surgery would be wise to make an appointment with her. It took a long time for us to get into see her however it was worth the wait. As an FYI, the two other surgeons we'd seen both recommended fusion and stated disc replacement was not an option...when apparently not only was it an option, but the best path. I am very concerned about an emergency room trip that revealed I have some degenerative "disease". In my particular situation I started having or symptoms after my last child in 2006 so I was pleased to finally have proof that my pain was caused from somewhere. I've seen the xrays...wow quickly dissipated. I got a call quickly from the HAI office so I thought I would be finding out quickly what was wrong with me. Do you know these people had me waste my gas to come out there to register, take me picture and even asked me when the best day to make the appointment. This was about the July 21, referral was July 7. July 25 I denied "HAI doctors will not grant appointment for this diagnosis." You people need to make it clear that you are a waste of gas and time. I want my gas money back so I can use to go to a doctor that will be willing to help me. If I had been told that the 21st appointment was a "lookie see if we want to help you type of deal", I could have made up my own mind what I wanted to do. Waste my time on a maybe, or actually find a doctor that would tell me what's going on... If I am referred to the Salvation Army for utility bill assistance, for example, the Salvation Army is not going to have me drive up there on a maybe, they are going to make the appointment first.
