I have made a couple of runs at seeking care in Carmel and Monterey, but each time it was made clear that I was not "their kind of patient." The fancy dentists seem to be looking for patients who will have their teeth cleaned twice a year, and maybe get a filling or a crown once in a while. That's not me. Today I finally gathered my courage and went in to see Dr. Abbas at Dr. Wetzel's practice in Salinas. I was terrified. Needlessly, as it turns out. Dr. Abbas and the staff were super kind, calming and non judgemental. They were also very organized and competent. Within a half hour Dr. Abbas laid out a number of treatment plans for me, explained each in detail, and left me to make my own decision. I cannot recommend Dr. Wetzel's practice enough. If they were able to calm all my fears, I can imagine they would also be great with kids, and anyone like me with a general dread of dentistry. Thank you so much!

I've been in a lot of pain since my extraction and currently going through an infection that's thankfully healing with the help of Dr. Tarsitano. When I went in for my post-op appointment regarding my discomfort and infection I was given a prescription for penicillin. I went in on Saturday 11/13/25 at 1pm. I was happy to be treated and prescribed. Unfortunately my pharmacy has limited hours on Saturday which I was not aware of. I proceeded to contact Dr.Tarsitanos office and of course got connected to the "answering system" the woman who answered the phone was extremely passive aggressive and very condescending. I was calling to see if my prescription could get sent to a CVS pharmacy since they are 24-hours. The woman who answered said "Can you hold on? I can't type that fast. Ok well didn't they give you a paper copy?!" I answered "yes they did give me a paper copy, would I be able to use that at a different pharmacy since they didn't originally send it there" She confirmed by saying "yes that's what it's for, do you have any other questions?!" Well turns out the paper copy I was given was just that. Only a copy. Not used for picking up actual prescriptions. So you can imagine how upset I was waiting in line at a CVS pharmacy after being told that paper copy would work and it doesn't. I'm very disappointed that Dr. Tarsitano would employ people like this who are so easy to brush off patients. I work in healthcare myself and would never work a job I am not happy at. So I'm wondering why this person does. I think Dr. Tarsitano should get rid of his "answering system" and just stick to voicemails. At least voicemails don't give you incorrect information, delay your healing process, and give you a bitter attitude everytime you call. These kind of ignorant passive aggressive employees shouldn't be the face of his practice. I was just trying to get my prescription filled.

Well, he did chat up a blue streak when I saw him, and his office was full of fancy furniture and nice carpeting, with lots of staff standing around, smiling. I asked him about a possible complications, and either he could not explain it, or did not want to bother. He said he "took" my insurance, but then I found out it was going to cost me $8,000+ in addition! For one implant! In desperation, I picked Dr. Silva out of a list on my insurance website. What a difference! His offices (Monterey and Salinas) are clean and comfortable, but not Architectural Digest material. The doctor himself has work to do, and is not overly fond of schmoozing and idle talk. But he KNOWS his profession, and his clinical staff are highly trained and compassionate. [He does have one grumpy person in the front office.] Ask him any dental question, and he will explain it to you in as much detail as you wish. He is just not stand-up comic material. Also, my charges were 4 or 5 times less than the other fellow! I'm a fan!

What a great construction team! They were very efficient and got the job done quickly, to my great relief! The office itself is unpretentious. It's relaxed and calming. The whole time he was drilling the shavings were going to the back of my throat, and I was choking he said oh it's just teeth dust lol Also, most of the reception women are very friendly, but every time I speak to Natalie she is so rude and seems like she hates her job. Once I get this problem corrected, I will not be returning to Salinas valley Dental care, sadly. I feel like the staff is overwhelmed because they're taking them more patients than they can handle. The staff and hygenist I had were friendly. What was not good was that Dr. Klugman I felt was not personal and lacked a good professional demeanor. I felt he was cold and impersonal, in and out , rushed and in a hurry. More of a business man and not much of an interested doctor. This was further evidenced by me constantly being upsold on procedures I felt I did not need. Also in talking with friends about their experiences with other dentists the prices for the same things, teeth cleaning, exams x-rays were high for the same service elsewhere. So eventually these things unfortunately eroded my confidence and my desire to go here. I switched to a dentist that is really great and I am really glad I did. I asked when I switched if I needed the procedures that were being recommended by Dr. Klugman and my suspicions were confirmed that No I did not need them at all. I brush, floss and keep excellent oral care like a fiend so I am glad it is paying off.
