The Sunglass Hut

The Sunglass Hut

Yorkville

I have a confession to make…read more I'm addicted to sunglasses. Aviators, Wayfarers, sporty and shiny. Whether matte black or mirrored, they've all found a way onto my face. A girlfriend once asked me why I would need so many pairs, since I have but one face. I said nothing. I merely gazed at her shoe rack. Then she pointed at my sneakers lined up by the door. I lost the moral high ground. I often wind up at this Sunglass Hut on my way home from work, browsing the affordable luxuries when a trip to Holt Renfrew seems improbable. A few pairs have found their way home with me. Staff are polite, and best of all, leave you alone while you browse. The return policy (for the occasional misfire) is plenty fair. I shamefully admit to having worn a pair home, then decided not to tax my Visa quite so heavily. The lack of backstock makes less sense. I'd rather have a pair that has yet to be tried on. Most baffling, the store is chronically understaffed-if I happen by over lunch I'd rather not come across an empty store front and a "back in 5 Minutes" sign.

I need to specify that this rating is based on my experience shopping at the Yorkville location…read more As of this writing the Bloor location is closed. While I wear sunglasses pretty much every day of the year I find them to be an incredibly difficult item to shop for. One must browse through a sometimes overwhelming selection of merchandise, trying to find the exact pair that fulfills ones wishes for fit (very personal); function (is it a brilliantly sunny day, or overcast?); style; and aesthetic suitability to face shape. This location is particularly good in that you can come in and take your time browsing without feeling the pressure for a sale, while in a very well lit shopping environment containing natural light, and a user-friendly merchandise layout-not always the case at other locations. The brand name selection is quite good from higher end bvalgaris, tiffanys and pradas to lower end maui jim's. The array of merchandise within each brand is also quite good. What really sets this location apart, however, is the excellent and very friendly customer service. I want to single out Jon, the store manager and his associate Kaitlyn who patiently bore with me offering help and guidance along the way as I made my way through a substantial quantity of the store's stock. They know their merchandise cold and keenly appreciate the mechanics of proper fit, pointing out aspects of a glass that may or may not work for a particular customer before he or she bothers to try it on. Jon in particular is amazing at doing adjustments to glasses and was gracious enough to do an expert adjustment on a previously ill fitting pair of Tom Fords that I brought in. If you are looking for a low stress experience in which you are sure to walk out having made a sound decision on a new pair of sunglasses, I would definitely check out this particular store. Even if you make a mistake, the return and customer satisfaction policies are great reasons to shop here.

Downtown Core

This review is about the Sunglass hut by the entrance to Eton center just by the Godiva store…read more I have long been a fan of sunglass hut as they have a good variety of sunglasses. This particular store is better then the other sunglass hut by the basement which has a more limited supply in terms of frames and designers. However their customer service has been declining. They recently hired this new sales person who trolls around the store acting as if she's your long lost best friend. It won't be hard to miss her, a short blond woman, early 20's who is the loudest person in the store. She's pushy, obnoxious, unprofessional and extremely rude. I have never received service that was as poor in any retail store. I honestly did not feel like I was in an upscale store. The sales associate came up to me and friend and asked if we were going to buy anything. I bought something last week and looking through their glasses for a present for our friend. I literally had to tell her that to make her understand we were looking to buy something. She kept giving her opinions when we never asked for them. She acted as we were her lost friends by making crude jokes. Honestly everything about the experience was miserable. This sales person made the store seem so cheap. I was desperate to find someone else unfortunately she was the only one there and told us she would be closing up the store. It's a good store with a decent selection but just make sure you stay clear of this blond troll. It wont be hard to spot her. She will be the shortest person who is in her early 20's, really loud raspy voice and will be in your face with a hand out. Not to shake it but to grab any $$$
