Tonight was the absolute worst as two staff members literally stood behind the counter and finished the most inane, non-business related conversation after I walked in and to the counter. I literally had to stand there and listen to them finish their football talk before being greeted, and, even then, it's like they couldn't have cared less. I always call my order in or order online because it's 2024 and who walks in and orders, and because I personally feel my time is at a premium. Even with calling and ordering ahead, my order is seldom ready at the promised time or within reason. ONE THING TO NOTE, THE CATFISH DINNER IS $25 AND IS ONE PIECE OF CATFISH CUT INTO 3 PIECES NOT 3 PIECES OF CATFISH, A TOTAL RIPOFF. I have never been to a soul food place with BAD cornbread like man, that is the BASIS of all soul fool platters, the MEAL revolves around the cornbread and greens,, both of which were quite nasty (My mom got them. She gave them a three out of ten, which was quite generous, if you ask me.) I also got an apple cobbler. Uhm. Yeah no, not ever again. Thing was lacking everything but sugar. The food is mediocre, but decent. The staff took far too long to prepare my order. The restaurant is set up cafeteria style, with all of the food prepared, but instead of making the plates when you order, you are given a ticket and you are requested to wait in the dining area until the orders are prepared. The food was already ready, but I ended up waiting 20 minutes for three simple orders of food that I could see behind the countertop (instead of having to be cooked in the back). Additionally, it appeared that most of the staff was just standing around, talking, instead of working efficiently to get orders prepared. This was the worse soul food I have ever eaten. First I spent over $75 for two slabs of ribs and two large size. Quite taken by surprise of the cost but I guess since post pandemic everything has gone up, It would have been fine except for each order of ribs they gave 5- ribs. These ribs were horrible. I had Levi's for the first time maybe 10 years ago or so and I had a great experience! It was so good! Had it catered for Mother's Day and overall it was VERY BAD! The mac and cheese had KRAFT CHEESE singles throughout the noodles. The potato salad was OK but not great. The greens had a great flavor but were not cut so they were in big chunks. The fried chicken was dry and over cooked. The whiting fish was good. The ribs were the best thing. They were tender and the sauce was good. The peach cobbler was okay. It was primarily peach mush. Know what you want to order before you walk up to order...the host (although she greeted me and was cordial), got a tad bit frustrated when I placed my order, and had to make a quick decision to get something other than the beef ribs that they didn't have. The wait time was 10 minutes and the total price for my meal was $19.06...not bad. I opted for their baked chicken, got it, dipped into everything, and I must say...it was lackluster. The collards were tasty. I copped a sweet tea that was overly sweetened, in my opinion and it tasted fermented, as if the container they keep the tea in hasn't been cleaned. I had a taste for soul food so I decided to take my cousin's recommendation and try out this place. When you first walk in, you are not greeted by anyone but the food is displayed. I walked over to the food and had to ask a staff member how the process of ordering food works. They told me to wait in the line behind the bar and once they finished making another persons food they would call for me to come up. I went up and I noticed that none of the staff had hairnets on their head, which is extremely unsanitary. Since the food is served cafeteria style, they should have hairnets on. In addition, I noticed that the staff seemed to be untalkative and unfriendly. I ordered the North Carolina style ribs and bbq chicken combo with Mac n cheese and yams, along with a strawberry cake. My ribs and chicken were really tasty, and the yams had a perfect mix of nutmeg and sugar. However, my strawberry cake was VERY dry! I should've had milk with it because that's how dry it was.
