It takes some time to fit weird feet into Birkenstocks, my friends--I have weird feet and they have never felt more seen and celebrated than they did at Journeys. This is saying something because I have been to a number of specialty shoe shops be they orthopedic or fashion-forward, where staff are not just undereducated about product but focused on hustling product commission. Did you know that in a Birkenstock, a 38 narrow footbed can fit like a 37 regular footbed? It's true. Think about that. (Women understand this math mystery because we wear brassieres and similar magic is at play re sizing and girlfriends, if you did not know this, please Google and welcome to the promised land.) Did you know that a Birkenstock "soft" footbed fit-feels differently than their standard footbed fit-feels? Makes sense right? Something squishy fits differently than something structured, EVEN IN THE SAME SIZE. What I'm getting at here is that the staff at Journeys are basically benevolent scientists when it comes to sharing myriad details of fit and utility. I worked with Lauryn, who is kind and knowledgeable. When I apologized for being a mental nightmare to fit she replied, "You're fine. I love helping people." Folks, omg!!! Maybe just go to journeys to experience next-level understanding and can-do vibes. Both Lauryn and her colleague Brooklyn helped me come home to myself, in color and style, as young, fashionable women of a certain age are super good at doing. They were well aware that my lifestyle includes subways and sidewalks and walking everywhere AND they understood the importance of being cute whilst living life. I tried on eight pairs of shoes in different colors, materials and sizes. During my final moment of hesitation over the shoe I wanted, I shared that everyone in NYC has been wearing the white Arizona for at least three years. They intoned: YOU DO YOU. So I did. I walked out of Journeys with the white Birki-Flor Arizona and I am thrilled. ps: Journeys has a brilliant returns policy which is frankly phenomenal: if your shoes aren't working for your feet and they show reasonable wear, one has 365 days to return the product.

The lady that helped us was very patient. My mom has one foot that is slightly bigger than the other and normally its no issue, but on occasion she can have some issues with one shoe being too big and the other just right. The lady that assisted us was really kind and continue to offer my mom a variety of styles until we found the ones that fit her the way she likes them to fit. We ended up with two pair shoes for less than $40 from a brand that is know for its quality and comfort.

These friends, despite having been vaccinated for some time, are still skittish eating indoors and had reserved a lot of outdoor tables. Unfortunately, April weather didn't care that we were trying to social distance. I was freezing my toes off the first night we were in town and had dinner outside. The next day I knew I had to get to a store and buy more acceptable clothing for eating outside. A few of us ubered to Marshall's. Initially I was worried because Marshall's had cleared almost all of their cold weather clothes and shoes away. My initial recon didn't yield much in the way of options. Fortunately, a deeper dive allowed me to discover some fancy-ish joggers and a high necked top that would provide more warmth than anything I'd packed. All told, my total $$$ spent was $48 and that included the Uber. Glad that Marshall's is a staple in most cities and towns. It comes in super handy!

I rarely come here, but my recent experience with two employees has ensured that I will never return. I was out on my usual night walk when I saw two women leaving as the store was closing. I had my AirPods in, but the volume was low enough that I could still hear my surroundings. As I walked past them, one of the women was putting on her coat, while the other kept staring at me with a disgusted look. I briefly made eye contact before looking away. I know that one of the employees sometimes walks in the same direction I was headed, so I made sure to walk ahead of her to ensure she felt safe--because I know I wouldn't feel comfortable if someone was walking behind me late at night. As I continued walking, I heard both of them laughing at me. I know they were laughing at me because neither of them was having a conversation, and there was nothing else happening that could have been funny. This behavior is completely inappropriate. I am significantly younger than these women, and it's disturbing that they would judge and mock someone like that. It's disgusting that this establishment employs such judgmental and miserable people. Edit-- I honestly don't know if one of them was the manager, but either way, this is highly unacceptable and should not be happening especially toward someone much younger than them.
