From start to finish, he was highly communicative, available, and made us feel like a priority no matter what day of the week it was. Jeremy took all of our requirements and put together an aggressive tour of downtown, showing us over 10 apartments in several neighborhoods ranging in price and amenities. He confirmed every appointment, and even had bottles of water for us since it was a hot day! After seeing the last apartment, he helped us talk through each listing and truly understand what our options were. In the end, we decided to stay where we were. Just sent an inquiry about an apartment asking if it could be flexed from a 1BR to a 2 BR unit and received the following response from Robert Meehan: "Probably not" Probably? Did you even check on that with the unit owner? I'm not asking these questions to kill time - I'm looking to rent immediately. Save yourself future trouble and work with someone who will bother to respond to you in a full sentence (and maybe with more than two words). read more

Incredibly sketchy agents and agency! They're a waste of time - stay away. I saw an apartment on Manhattan Sunday afternoon, during an open house, I was interested in applying and the agent told me she will email application forms + list of fees either later that night or the following morning. I left her my email address on the sign-in sheet. She clarified that because it's a co-op, the process may take 2-3 weeks for approvals, which was fine by me. I never received any forms or additional info, I emailed her to ask again for the form, and then I called several times the next morning - no response. Finally in the afternoon on Monday, the agent picked up my call and said another application was already submitted and approved - she even pretended that she had sent me the forms and asked for my information again to..... "double check". I don't know what went on under the table but this was clearly rigged if overnight between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning an application was "submitted and approved", including by a co-op board, while at the same time, the agent "thought" she had sent me forms that never arrived and while ignoring my emails and calls. Don't waste your time - good thing about the NY market is that there are as many agents and agencies, as there are apartments. Look elsewhere. read more

I found this broker to be very unprofessional. I always thought that a broker needs to sell the prospective tenant, this company does not seem to feel that way. I am a 30 year old professional; I make good money and I have very good credit. I own a 50 lb dog, and while apartment hunting that is my FIRST and MOST important question every time. I WOULD NOT be able to live somewhere that didn't allow my dog so a yes no dictates if the conversation will proceed. I responded to a renthop ad, with my only my email address attached asking if the location allowed for a 50 lb dog. I was not given a response, but I've ATTACHED the emails below so you can read them. . Later I reached out about another place that Zeke was showing - this time i included my phone number. He texted me at 1130 at night only asking "how much do u make and do u have good credit." I responded "I make enough and i have good credit but 1130 at night is not the time to talk business please reach out to me tomorrow between 11 AM - 3 PM. He then proceeded to talk trash to me over 9, yes NINE, text messages, telling me how "in five years of doing this he never had..." Had what, someone demand to work during normal business hours in a professional and respectful manner??? Now the emails from the first part: Good Day, The app asked for your phone number and you left it blank. I do not give out any information until I am absolutely sure I can confirm this person is a legitimate customer. If I don't answer your question to your satisfaction what happens? While we ended up going with a different apartment, he took the time to show us various apartments in the neighborhood that were similar and also in our price range. The actual showings were a bit quick, and it seemed like he was concerned with time. The application process was quick, and they sent a copy of the lease right away. No frills, but also no fuss. I'll give them this: I'm moving into an apartment that I found from a broker at level group. But I have such a bad taste in my mouth about the way it all went down that if I could do it all over again I wouldn't have used them. I initially liked that my broker wasn't trying to sell apartments to me that I wasn't interested in, but she was spacey and would forget key things I was looking for in my home (like that I have a dog). After the application had been submitted to the building she became increasingly more difficult to get ahold of, so much so actually, that when it came to getting the certified checks for the first month and deposit I had to call the building directly because she wasn't answering her phone and she had advised me to have them left blank. (Hello? It's a certified check. You can't leave it blank.) A lot of the pictures on level groups website are inaccurate as well. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. This is going to be long and if you are considering them you need to hear this, so bear with me. So here is the situation me and my roommate found ourselves in. My roommate is in the process of getting a software engineer job and has a great credit score and I have a couple hundred grand with a poor credit score. For those reasons, we knew in our apartment search we'd have to go through a company like insurent....So we are going through our apartment search and find a place we absolutely love. Andy Keung, the realtor working with the property basically takes us on a 2 week long thing where it takes him several days of procrastination to send us the lease. He tells us we won't need to use a company like insurent and he can get us in without it, so we go ahead and cancel our qualification. This entire time, we're being told everything is fine and the apartment is ours so obviously what do you do if this is the case? You start planning to move. So we hired a moving company, started buying things for the apartment like tv's and a refrigerator. This entire time Andy is telling us it is safe for us to start planning the move, I have the texts to justify this. We sign our lease on the day it starts which was the 1st(I know like I said this was being procrastinated we contacted him everyday for a week), pay the brokers fee, get certified checks for ming sun realty so here we are on January 3rd. We're all packed up, leaving the next day and obviously so incredibly excited. We've already signed our lease, paid the brokers fee and been told multiple times over by the realtor that this place is ours. The only thing that will need to be done when we get to NYC is to meet with the building management and get the key and sign something. So like I said, here we are January 3rd packed up and ready to go and apparently the situation that had been communicated to us for about a week and a half wasn't the actual situation. Apparently there was a review process that needed to be done for us as tenants which is totally absurd because why am I paying you money before you have actually gotten me approved? And why are you telling us the situation is something it isn't? Why not just clearly communicate? All in all, we're devastated. We were so looking forward to the move and missed out on multiple other opportunities during our search because we were told everything with this apartment was ready to go. How can you possibly trust this company to rent out or sell your home when they have proven to me through numerous texts and calls that their word is meaningless. Not to mention.....Here is the best part. As of writing this, the one month rent brokers fee for the apartment that this all happened for. This review is really all about a Level One apartment agent named Rob Hapgood. So here's my story. I live in Portland, Oregon. The task at hand was to secure an apartment on the way upper West Side for my daughter who is a college student in NYC. My daughter found Rob somehow, I'm not even sure. So I quickly found out that apartment hunting in NYC is a surly, tangled mess. At first I didn't know who I should trust. I wasn't sure about Rob at first. He's got a sort of Bronx swagger and he's very direct and very to the point. Well in the end Rob came through on every count. He kept every promise made. He was open and honest about the entire process. Turns out that getting a small, one bedroom apartment lease is like buying a house. We had to send him virtually all of our private financial information including tax returns and more. He handled it all professionally and he kept all promises. And my daughter got the apartment she wanted. We weren't sure at the beginning of this process. In the end I can say I would work with Rob again and I highly recommend him. First impressions were a bit off putting. But the guy treated us with respect and again.... He kept all promises made. read more

If you're working with Level Group, ask for Elijah Rivera. Eli helped me find an apartment very quickly, and guided me through the entire process. I initially found Eli by contacting another one of their brokers, Avraham. However, Avraham had a family emergency right before I came to town to look for apartments, so despite what he was going through, he sent me to his colleague Eli, who took over immediately. I see a lot of bad reviews for Level Group here, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of which specific brokers you deal with. Both of mine were awesome. Here's my break down: - PROFESSIONALISM Eli was extremely professional and he was clearly helping me look for apartments that were in my budget, and fit my requirements. In fact, he actually visited apartments before asking me to come just to vet them for me. Where else are you going to get that? - EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE Eli and I texted, called, e-mailed at basically all hours of the day. Oftentimes I'd shoot him an e-mail expecting a response the next morning, and I'd receive a response within the hour. - PREPARED When I first contacted Avraham, I asked him what paperwork I should make sure I had to help make this process as smooth as possible. Avraham provided me with a complete list, and when I arrived and ended up working with Eli, Eli again verified with me all the paperwork I had so that if I did find the perfect place, I would immediately be in the best position to apply for it. - PRICE If someone isn't reimbursing you for Level Group's broker's fee, I'd think about it very hard before you decide to go with it. They charge 15%, which isn't unusual in Manhattan, and NYC, but there are many brokers who charge just one month's rent, which is 8.3%. It's a lot of money you could save. That said, if you get to work with Level Group on a no fee apartment (that means the landlord is usually paying the fee for you)? Golden. Lucky for me, I didn't have to think about this part. read more

I was a first-timer in both of these respects and she always took the time to answer my questions and talk me through the whole process, and very pro-actively told me what to look out for and made sure I was aware of what was going on. Let me start off by saying I *hate* apartment hunting in Manhattan. It is such a sleazy business, full of scam artists and slimeball brokers. Apartments are rarely even close to as nice as they seem in the pictures and descriptions, rents are ridiculous, and it's just draining running all over the city to viewings. I had a great experience working with Casey Sandler and his associate Dane. They have been super helpful, professional, a pleasure to deal with, and best of all, HONEST. They will send you listings that truly match what you're looking for, and answer any questions you have quickly and truthfully. I feel like they have really gone out of their way to help us find the perfect place. Not that every place we saw was great, but they will actually be the first to say when they don't think it's a good match-- they're not just trying to make a buck. They also said they are willing to negotiate on fees, which is refreshing. I can highly recommend either Casey or Dane. I had the complete opposite experience with people from New York City Apartments, which is the slimiest, sleaziest real estate agency I have ever dealt with. They are straight up liars, and scammers. 0 stars. First off, I have moved 9 times in NYC and have NEVER experienced such sketchy and unprofessional behavior. We worked with Diana Mazzella Dellaccio. She was very aggressive in her communication with us and tried to pressure us into signing a lease that went against multiple NYC tenant/housing laws, as well as had multiple typos within the document. When we notified her of this, she refused to work with us and 'wished us well' on our search. If I were you, I would stay far away from this group and read over EVERYTHING they try and get you to sign. All they care about is keeping the landlords happy and taking advantage of new tenants. read more

I have just gotten off the phone with Level Group agent, Rob Hobgood. He was beyond unprofessional--at least, to those he deems less worthy because of their credit profile. I had called Mr. Hobgood to inquire about a one-bedroom apartment available in the Fordham area of the Bronx. When answering his question about my creditworthiness, he responded with condescension and judgment, and then placed me on hold. When he returned to our phone call, and asked about my salary and career, he again scoffed at my response, and replied with condescension. I refused to continue the conversation, noting that I did not appreciate his attitude, and hung up. Rob also sent me multiple text messages (with spelling errors) stating, "Sorry u don't appreciate my Ques. Just trying to find out the truth rather than waist [sic] both. R times that u won't qualify ... But I work on commission And I don't have the time to help a client who is giving me the run around on basic simple Ques." (I responded in-kind.) I understand there is a certain credit and career profile agencies prefer when renting out apartments. But when you have an interested applicant who may not fit that profile, there is no reason for an agent to speak down to them--especially when your own listing does not specify the tenant qualifications. A simple, "Miss, I apologize, but you would not qualify for our apartments," is a fine response. No one should have to be subject to condescension and ridicule. read more

I dont know abt all the negative reviews here. I met with Rob who patiently spent three hours with me showing apts, telling me where grocery stores were, and DRIVING me around the area. Found an apt I loved and put in an app. Unfortunately, even after getting approved, the lease still isn't ready three weeks later per building management company. I probably will not end up with the apt given the lack of response on THEIR end but Rob checks in with me every day and keeps me updated on the situation. I'd rate the management company zero stars at this point. But, Rob? He is great-5 stars! Hope I actually end up in this apt but don't let the negative reviews sway you! read more

Warning: this company DOES NOT accurately represent their listings. Don't bother, unless for some reason you don't value your time. We had a most unpleasant series of interactions with Rachel Diaz. When I called her about being 5 minutes late to our viewing, she sneeringly asked "Did we have an appointment?" in spite of our string of text messages confirming our viewing. When we got to the apartment, she made us fill out a waiver in the hallway before we were even shown the apartment (which I've never had to do with a broker before) and then was rude to us when we asked why this was required. As soon as we got inside, we knew it was a no-go. The apartment advertised as a 3BR was actually a 1BR with a railroad style office and side room, which would have been totally inappropriate for a roommate situation. The whole ordeal only lasted a few minutes, but it left a lasting sour taste in all of our mouths. We will never be seeing an apartment represented by this company again. How this woman has a job dealing with other human beings, I have absolutely no idea. read more

While looking for a new apartment on my own I came across a listing that I was interested in. My boyfriend emailed the listing agent, Jerry Leazer around 8 pm on a Thursday evening. Jerry promptly responded and we saw the apartment the following morning. While that apartment did not work out we continued working with Jerry who sent us new listings that met our criteria. Jerry always showed up for our appointments early and maintained his professionalism and patience until we found out perfect apartment. Jerry walked us through the leasing process with the management company and was even able to negotiate with them to install a new oven and push back the lease start date for us. While we hope to remain in our new home for many years we will definitely be calling Jerry when we are ready to make a move. Thank you Jerry for all your help! read more

I had the worst experience with Sherif Hamoda, I did everything right. I paid his commission a month before he sent me the application, I had high hopes to get accepted but after one month when I was filling out the application I was missing one doc and instead of getting back to me and letting me know and asking me to provide the missing document, he just said my application got rejected after a month of waiting. Also, I asked him about other listing he lied and said he has nothing in the market. But when I went to craigslist I found him listing few rooms. a liarr can not be trusted. I believe he scam people to get the commission money by letting them wait long for a room that is already been taking so they grow tired and give up on the refund "the broker comission" which by the lease state it's nonrefundable except when the application gets rejected by the landlord. this is the only logical explanation behind his act. wasted my time and now I have no place to move in to. be careful. I got my money back from Sherif and the fact that he is not letting me know about the other listing is just because I wait until I hear back from the landlord. therefor, his commission will be refunded to me. a sneaky liar. again be aware. read more

I ended up getting into housing court with this disreputable, horrible landlord, and turned out he had no certificate of occupancy or registration with HPD. I had a unique experience with this group. I saw an apartment in Craiglist (Windsor Terrace, 1600 no fee) so I made an appointment. The person I talked to was Rachel Diaz. The same day that we were supposed to see the apt, the listing vanished from craiglist which gave me a bad feeling but I went to the app anyway. A petite woman with glasses and a very informal look, showed up (eating pizza) " I am sorry I was hungry"- she said with her mouth full. "Rachel couldn't come-she added- she sent me"- she continued while chewing She got a form out her purse. " This is the application..." "Ah! so this has a fee? That is not what Craiglist said.... forget it." We left. Well. Another bad experience. But then I googled Rachel Diaz to see who she was and it was the woman with the glasses and the pizza!!!! She is the vice-president of Level Group. That professional look she has in the website is very different than what we saw let alone her behavior. Maybe she said she wasn't Rachel because she wasn't spruced up when she met us. After all the web says that she was in the fashion industry. I don't understand. Looking for an apt in this city has become an experience on human beings and the lengths they can reach to get what what they want. People are not good to each other, one on one. read more

I felt obligated to write a review after a horribly UNPROFESSIONAL exchange with the agent Vladimir Ichkov. When I didn't reply to one of Vladimir's emails after expressing interest in one of his listings, he called me on a Sunday afternoon without emailing first. I ignored the call, an unknown number, and saw he emailed again. I sternly but politely asked him to schedule a call before calling, particularly on a weekend. He sarcastically wrote back "Would you like me to mail you and official request to chat before calling you or should I talk first to your personal assistant? :-)" I asked him not to contact me again. He quickly replied "No problem, I'll let you get back to your self-importance :-)" Is this what Level Group calls salesmanship? How distasteful! Won't be using this agency for my apartment search because of this unfortunate encounter. read more

According to the agreement between myself and the broker: "A tenant's agent is an agent who is engaged by a tenant to represent the tenant's interst. The tenant's agent does this by negotiating the rental or lease of an apartment or house at a rent and on terms acceptable to the tenant." None of the above was upheld by the Level Group. Working with them was the worst real estate experience I have ever had. We were told we were seeing a 7/1 rental with temporary walls already built and ended up with a 6/15 rental, the cost of the walls on us and an increase in rent. Not once did I get the impression that the brokers were working to represent my best interests. In fact, we never even met one of the brokers. That same broker kept our apartment listed on the website throughout our entire application process, even though we had a large deposit on the unit. The application process took an unnecessary amount of time and the brokers kept feeding us different information. I had to take it upon myself to call the mgmt company for updates and legitimate information. It killed me to pay a broker's fee for this place, it was definitely not deserved. I had a great experience with Jorge and Sheldon. I found them through NakedApartments, and once we got in touch Jorge was kind, professional, and fast. He wanted to show me a place a few weekends before I wanted to move but I had to go out of town. The next Monday he contacted me again with another place. I told him I was a tough case since I just moved back into the country from living in Europe for the past few years, but he seemed confident we could make it work with one place he knew of. I saw the place on a Thursday, gave him the paperwork the next day Friday, and despite everyone being cooped up all weekend due to the hurricane scare, I just met with the building management and signed the lease this morning (Tuesday). Dealing with brokers can be a headache and it sucks to have to part with the finders-fee money, but I give these two the thumbs up! read more

This applies to LJ Lithgow of Level Group. He lacks in punctuality and is not mindful of a client's time. In his first showing he showed up 40 minutes late. The next day, he was scheduled to show us an apartment and he seemed to not know which unit was available, trying every key and apartment in the building, only to find out that he doesn't even have the right set of keys. He then asked us to set aside two blocks of time for a third day offering to show 4 units, and ended up not having anything to show--and wasted our day yet again. A few days later, he texted me to line up a showing with little notice (an hour later). He bears all the hallmarks of a sloppy and unprofessional agent. It goes without saying that we will not be working with him. EVER. You'd be better off going with Rob, who we worked with the previous year. read more

I know it takes time but when you have the right broker (Steve) who understands your needs, wants and budget - you can get the perfect place! Steve was extremely professional as well as upfront about all fees and paperwork that would need to be submitted. I responded to an add on craigslist. Emailed back and forth with an agent, but it always seemed off. So we stopped e-mailing and I continued my online search. Several weeks later, in a a totally different part of town, the same photos were used and a great description including NO FEE. I emailed, got my previous agent who after 10 emails sent me a floor plan that clearly did not match photos. I gave him a description of what I wanted but all the listings he sent me were not even close. He did respond promptly and politely, but he didn't seem to either listen to my needs or he didn't have what I was looking for. Either way, I didn't waste my time meeting in person, especially after reading other reviews. read more
