This is by far the best new spot in town, and THE place to be on a Thursday night! Right above…read moreVictoria Freehouse, this dive has a completely different (but still cozy and fun) feel. You'll love the lights, the music, and the happy hour for sure. Karaoke on Thursday starts between 9:30 and 10pm. For now - perhaps because it's summer, perhaps because it's a new venue - it draws a really fantastic hostel crowd. You know who I'm talking about: young, fun, upbeat kids on vacation who don't take themselves seriously and just want to have a good time with you. You don't have to wait for years for your turn to sing, and no one is judging your voice because they're too busy dancing. Although it's hard to beat $2 tacos and $3 Jameson, something I love even more is the hallway with the selfie wall on the left and the chalkboard on the right. Tag yourself in photos taken in funky mirrors (hello, new profile pic!) and then draw a silly picture on the chalkboard. The chalkboard is such a fun way to interact with your fellow patrons! What a stroke of brilliance on the owner's part. Speaking of the owner, she is sweet, funny, and warm. The place gets busy on Thursdays with all the karaoke stars, but I still didn't have to wait for a drink all night, and she even got engaged in peoples' performances. She cares about her patrons and clearly wants them to have a good time because she takes pride in her work and her business, not just because she wants their money. There really is that Cheers vibe going on. I felt like I could dance and let loose and be silly, like I was among friends.

This place is definitely a diamond in the rough. Coming into Philly for Made in America, we had no…read moreidea what to expect in terms of nightlife. So we took to our trusty Yelp apps to figure out where the place to be was and came across this general area. After about an hour of wandering around and seeing only a) high covers, b) expensive drinks, and c) bad music being blasted from overcrowded semi-clubs, we were just about to call it a night when I realized we were near this gem. We ended up walking right past it with our noses in our phones, but the owner (who strategically was hanging out on the sidewalk out front) asked us where we were looking for and sent us up the steep flight of stairs with a smile and promise that her bartender would hook us up. After the stairs - which, granted, may be slightly tricky if you're a tad intoxicated - we were greeted warmly by a cozy bar/club with amazing music playing and very few people. We headed up to the bar and befriended the bartender (I want to say her name was Ciara... she was great, give her a raise!) who hooked us up with awesome drinks. We ended up staying here awhile, if only because it wasn't too crowded and the staff was so friendly! No cover, reasonably priced drinks, and awesome service?! It's everything you could want in a bar. After we headed downstairs, we ran into the owner again who we spent a good half hour with ranting and raving about the music selection and the quality of her bar. She was by far one of the most down to earth and nicest business owners I've encountered and I hope only good things come this place - I know I'll be back the next time I'm in Philly!

Also, I waited until dinner had came in so I can take home the crab balls and shrimps. They both were seasoned, lightly breaded, and deep fried to perfection. The Menu itself, which is broken down by Brunch on the weekend, Happy Hours during the week days, Appetizers, and Dinner and offer such a variety of dishes that I personally will give it like a 5 Star Restaurant quality. The ambience and service was good the first with some improvement needed with the second time being exemplary. This time I had the grilled salmon, mash potatoes, and asparagus, with half dozen of shrimps, which was $1per shrimp during Happy Hour along with offering $1 chicken wings. I haven't seen that promotion at any other establishment in a long time. My niece had the lollipop lamb chops, mash potatoes, and asparagus with loaded cheese fries with crab meat. I tried it and it was really good, so to the point, I'm going to order it the next time I attend for Happy Hours or Dinner. She really enjoyed her food and we both took home what we couldn't finish as the portion was definitely worth every cent. Oh, the presentation of each dish was well put together. I Love the flower touch. The second time I receive blue orchard, I believe that's what the flower was and different shades of blue is my favorite color so I appreciated even more. Lastly, I cannot wait until my next visit as I will like to try either the lobster and grits, crab cakes with a choice of two sides, or the lollipop lamb chops and mussels to go, lol. I highly recommend this establishment.

It's located next to Heffe tacos and the food menu comes from there though you can order with your tab thankfully since otherwise heffe is cash only. My friends enjoyed their food, getting tacos and empanadas. My drink was tasty, it was a frozen margarita made without alcohol (essentially a frozen limeade slushy) and I understood it might come at the same price as the regular (it did). I would love it if they had a menu item specifically called out as a mocktail even for a dollar or two cheaper like many restaurants but I get it. The music kept dying out with the bluetooth speaker system they had going. It was a little loud at times but we were sitting right next to it. The DJ left when we came, so maybe that's a fun addition, wouldn't really know though. Unfortunately (and it was possibly our own mistake) we did end up accidentally double tipping (40%) so it was pretty expensive for this and a water bottle. My part of the bill came up to 22.40$ for the frozen marg ($13)+ water bottle ($3) + our accidental double gratuity. They do have automatic gratuity of 20% which I support, just make sure you really read the bill when they come around with the card reader you make sure the math adds up. We did feel comfortable hanging out for a while though considering all that. The vibe of it is cute, and we had a pleasant time underneath the canopy of the tree while it drizzled, they did move all our tables and chairs after they offered us better seating for a better vibe. The string lights are always nice. I might not visit again considering the other options around here but I can see how it's a great addition to the neighborhood and how friendly all the staff were. I'll check back on other yelpers experience though! They are still testing out the menu so it sounded like they were trying a couple different kinds of drinks, so maybe if you're here in the next week or so after their weekend grand opening check if there's anything off the menu.

She was super friendly and personable.... Unfortunately, we went back today for Labor Day and it was almost embarrassing. If you wanted a decent drink you needed to be a friend or say you were with with a dj, etc. We got another rum punch and it was straight yellow, no fresh fruit aside from a small green pineapple triangle..., it tasted like straight canned pineapple juice, was mostly ice. I didn't even want to drink it, let the bf drink it all. Like I said, unless you were a friend, etc, your drinks aren't gonna be great, it's a really cool "backyard" vibe until the service is meh. I hope it gets better next year, consistently, because it was really nice earlier this summer, but got way too lax as the season went on.
