This was my first time at Byblos and first impression means EVERYTHING TO ME! I feel like this place probably deserves the 3 stars that it currently displays. The lack of customer service is probably the only reason I won't be back. We got there early so it wasn't busy which is why I was pretty surprised as to why our waitress couldn't be more attentive. We ordered a hookah and had to flag her down to get coal refills as well as another round of drinks. We also had to get up and find her to ask for the check as she sat in the corner on her phone. It was just us and one other table and a few people at the bar so I feel like a better service would have been more applicable. Besides the customer service the place is very pleasant. It was "Happy Hour" so we ordered a wine of our choice which was great. I also couldn't help but try out the food even though I was not hungry at all. But I could tell they have some delicious selections just by trying their Falafel Appetizer!!

I was last here nearly three years ago and it doesn't seem like much has changed other than my experience level with hookah. Byblos was my first hookah bar in Philly, but since then I've visited several establishments around the city. I'm now not quite so enthralled with this one. I'm fairly certain it gets by mostly on its prime location in Rittenhouse. The interior of this place could absolutely benefit from a remodel. Their setup is weird and we were seated right below speakers. As the night wore on, it became increasingly harder to hear my friends over the music. The crowd also changed around 10 pm and I suddenly felt incredibly under-dressed in my shorts and tank. The hookah itself was good and lasted a while. We chose the strawberry flavor for $20. I didn't like my accompanying raspberry rum cocktail. For the price (something like $12?), it was not worth it at all. It tasted totally watered down or bland. No thanks. Our server was friendly, but the seats were tight and not that comfortable despite feeling plushy. For the price-tag, I'm not sure I'll be back any time soon, but it's always an option when proximity wins.

Baba was tasty, and so was the mussels. Honestly I was surprised at how good the food was for such a late night spot. Didn't even know this place existed, would try again.

I followed Byblos on Instagram after 10pm on a Friday night. They immediately followed me back. I inquired about having a Birthday gathering and someone actually assisted me through direct messages. Prompt responses and an immediate reservation. It was so easy. The level of customer service blew me away! I mean this is unheard of. They even followed up with me the next day. When I arrived my section was ready. Everything was spectacular (staff, hookah and food) and my server was super attentive and amazing!!! The gentleman (assuming the manger/owner) came over to greet me to ensure I was good. I promise my expectations were exceeded!!! My friends and I will most certainly come back and do it again and again!!! Great for a date night, a night out with friends or Birthday Celebrations!!! Five Stars!!!

I've been going to this place for years. While it's one of the more expensive hookah places I think it's worth it. The flavors are great! The service is pretty consistent and the food is so good. I got the shish taouk and naan. The drinks are pretty high and aren't the strongest so I really don't go there for that.

Great for Hookahs & drinks, not so much for food. I've been coming here for years for the hookahs & drinks & the music is usually on point. I like to go during the week when it's not very crowded & there's just enough ppl that you don't feel like it's empty. This was my first time trying the food & it will most likely be my last. I had the mussels & grape leaves, two things that I thought were pretty easy to perfect. The mussels weren't seasoned enough for me & the grape leaves were too moist and falling apart. These were two of my fav dishes & to not like either was a disappointment. I won't stop going for the hookah and drinks but I'll pass on dining here.

Sari A. pretty much covered our experience and what you can expect in her review, I found the prices to be fair for the stop here -- about $17 pre-tip per person. That includes a $5 cover charge, but they offer you a free water bottle, soda or Snapple as part of the deal, so it almost evens out. Sphinx is a good place to go if you want to feel young and vibrant but don't want a night of drinking. In other words, it seemed like a good chunk of the clientele here would fall on the lower end of the 18-24 age bracket. While this is very much a lounge-type atmosphere, late on a Saturday some people stood up from their perches on couches/chairs and danced in place. It was kind of weird, but whatever. The hookah itself was great. We compromised with the grape flavor and it wasn't ever harsh. Sometimes when I smoke (which is rare!), I'll feel a constant need to cough thanks to asthma, but this wasn't the case here. We replaced our coals once, and the flavor lasted a good amount of time. Things got a little sticky at one point but were later resolved by the owner. You see, I wanted to catch the train at a certain time, so I got in line for the bathroom. It was a single stall and there were two people ahead of me. When it was my turn, a young girl announced that she needed to vomit, pushed ahead of me, and puked all over the stall. Um. I asked for my check and said I needed to go elsewhere to find a bathroom ahead of my train, but the owner told me to hold on and they'd thoroughly clean the stall. They did so quickly, which I appreciated. All the while, the girl thanked her friends for worrying about her....as she stared me down with her feet on the couch and went back to smoking. Seems like a normal thing to do after making a disgusting mess and inconveniencing someone. Aside from that incident -- which was out of the business's control -- it was a pretty nice place to stop for out-of-the-box Saturday night fun. Keep in mind that the music is pretty uncomfortable (re: rap with lots of curse words and weird statements), but otherwise you should check it out if you like hookah! I'd go back if I was in the area.

Full disclosure: I first learned about Alamodak from a Yelp Elite Squad event (thank you to our CM…read moreMegan C!), and apparently I'm more recognizable than I thought. Shortly after we arrived Francisco recognized me and greeted me like an old friend, which was really lovely, but also. my cover is blown. I don't advertise that I'm a Yelp reviewer because I want to avoid getting a different experience. SO The food was fabulous. I took a couple of my friends from out of town there for dinner one night. Well, one is from Pennsauken so I don't think that's super out of town. My other friend was from western Massachusetts. We ordered: Freshly Squeezed Lemonade with mint - very refreshing, not cloyingly sweet. Labneh with zatar and pomegranates. We almost licked the plate clean. This was a huge huge hit. Harira soup, also a huge hit. One of us got the lentil soup instead, which was also good, but the Harira was the star. We got a family sampler of hummus, baba ghanoug, tabbouleh, one other thing. It was very good, we were already starting to get full. Uh oh. Then to the entrees. One of us got the Tomato Kufta, the other got the Kufta with Tahini so we could compare. Both were great, I liked the tomato kufta slightly better. I can't remember what the third entree was, my guest was already so full he basically took it home, and told me later how it was good even a day later. Lastly, mint tea, Jordanian style, with a little jar of honey, and then baklava, which was great, not too sweet, crunchy and soft, just yum. Service was great, please see disclosure above, though. I doubt anyone else's experience would be different. The restaurant was warm and inviting in its' decor. We didn't go upstairs to the hookah lounge. Don't let the exterior fool you, inside it's comfy and welcoming. Parking...it's PHILLY. Street. If you can't parallel park your car in a spot 8" longer than it, take Uber, people. If I, who despises driving to the city, particularly sections that were built before cars existed, will do this, then you know it's a good place to eat. Also, I can get my car in a parallel spot 8" longer than my car. I am, after all, still a Philly girl, living in the 'burbs.

We visited this place after our Yelp event at Stateside. The place is very quiet on the first floor…read morebut the second floor had all the action with hookah and a bar. Francisco was the general manager and helped guide our choices. His passion made the experience a lot better. He told us basically this restaurant was a traditional Jordan restaurant (they don't really Americanize the food like some places do). The place even started offering an interesting brunch menu I would like to try out one day. For the appetizer we got Falafels, hummus, matabel, salad, and labneh mix. The matabel was amazing. I really liked the smokiness of the eggplant. The falafels were well done as well. I really liked how they tasted fresh. The salad was so delicious that I ate it up super quick (I liked the tanginess of it). The labneh mix was a popular dish at this place. It had an amazing pita that was very fluffy. We got a baklava pistachio milk shake to drink. It was interesting how a whole baklava piece was crushed into it with pistachio. It wasn't too sweet which did kind of ruin it (probably authentic to flavor however). For our main entree we got the Chicken Mandi Special. Francisco learned we loved south Asian spices so he recommended this dish since he said it had similar profile to Indian spices. I really, really enjoyed the spice profile of this dish. I also really enjoyed how easily the chicken came off the bone. At the end of our meal, Francisco got us Alamodak Tea with pistachio baklava. I really liked how the tea pot was in a copper pan. The Alamodak tea had a walnut in the cup and had a hint of cinnamon. It was really good and interesting how we ate the walnuts at the end of the tea. The pistachio baklava wasn't sweet but I really liked the crumbled pistachios on top of it. The top of a spiral case at this restaurant leads to a hookah spot. This place offers comedy shows, belly dancing some nights, etc. The second floor had an interesting 3d image that Francisco pointed out (apparently his dad created it). He did a good job. Can't wait to visit this place again!

Problematically for a dance club, the floor (at least upstairs, where the dancing was on this night) isn't level at all, sloping somewhat toward the street. Also, the bouncer was a little aggressive. In terms of the dancing itself, the level was quite low and there was a 2:1 leader-to-follower ratio (but again, that might not be the norm). I didn't stay long.
