I came to her for a quick drink before heading to the train station. Upon entering the bar, I had a feeling of deja vu and realized that I had visited this bar a few years back. U Bar seems like one of those bars where the locals come to hang out. It's the perfect setting to meet up with friends, grab a few drinks, and head out to enjoy the nightlife of Philly. From my impression, almost everyone at the bar knew each other. That said, the clientele was pretty friendly toward me as a "Johnny come lately." As the name would suggest, the bar is more or less in the shape of a U so you can see pretty much everyone at the bar without making much effort. Unlike many LGBTQ bars, U Bar has a decent enough beer selection. For me next Philly visit, I'll definitely make a point to visit U bar again.

While on a small trip to Philly I decided to try this bar with a friend. Our mistake is believing that bar food will actually be good. Not going to lie the menu sounded interesting but seeing and tasting the actual choices did not do it no justice. We started off with Sriracha Deviled Eggs. We get the eggs and it was a deviled egg with a drop of sriracha. The potato skins had so much sour cream and cheddar cheese on top that we couldn't taste the potato. The salads were a bit boring. I had a tuna melt and tomato soup. Both were fair not the best I had. Then last came out spinach and artichoke dip which turned out to be just melted cream cheese. It was quite the disappointment. The one star is really because of the host and serves who were nice.

I get it, things change...the scene in Philly is much different than I remember from the last century when I lived here...I just would have hoped that it would have been change for the better. Got a drink, was short changed, not much but not the point...tell me what I owe. After I/we did the math, it was a difference of 2 bucks. Wouldn't care so much if there hadn't been lipstick on my glass and attitude from the bartender... At the end of the day, business is business...where are you going to spend your hard earned dollars??? At a place that appreciates your patronage or one who doesn't? I think this may be my first 2-star review as I am usually at one of the extremes. This place has potential, but for a first impression...not so much. I write this to help the business better itself, and better serve its clientele...love!!!

Absolutely miserable, when he starts his shift he will remove my beverages even if the half full, throws them away all the time and gets away with it, knows it's mine, OR will absolutely ignore me and friends at the end of the bar because he does not like us. He has been known to tell people he does not like them and refuses to serve them on that basis alone. Too many people have brought this up before to continue to endure this piss poor bartender ruining an otherwise enjoyable-as-always time at the Bike Stop.

I haven't been asked for ID in well over 20 years, so I was quite pleased to be asked for it. I produced my ID, and bopped on in there with my date. The place wasn't packed for a Friday night. A few folks at the pool table, some folks wandering about, and lots of people at the bar. We wandered downstairs where the light was red, and the bar had fewer people at the bar. We took our seats, ordered some drinks, and paid. Nice, strong drinks, and the bartender was super friendly. When we asked for glasses of water, they literally had a stack of pre-poured water for anyone who wanted it, and handed it over no questions asked. Some places try to charge you for water. Not this place! That's awesome that they're encouraging safer drinking. We had a lovely time. A troupe of ladies came in and were chatting with the bartender, while this shirtless guy was making out with some other guy on the other side of the bar. After a while, I wanted to maybe dance a little bit, and see if I couldn't find seats at the bar, as well as explore the rest of the space. Also, there was some kind of smell going on in the basement that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it was getting in the way of my good time, so my date and I wandered up. There were a couple of seats empty at the bar! Nice. We asked politely from the guy sitting next to it if those seats were taken, and he gave us a big smile, saying "Nobody's sitting there, but thank you for asking anyway!" What an absolute sweetheart. We ordered a couple more drinks, until my date overheard the guys who welcomed us to grab those chairs talking about some horror movie they'd all just seen and were obsessed with. My guy chimed right in, and the lot of them got into a spirited enjoyable discussion about horror, music, and the various implications of those in our various POC communities, and it was such a good time. I was curious about the other two floors, as we'd now experienced the basement area and the main floor. Apparently those other floors are only open for special events, and they have a total of 4 of them. Some day I'd like to come back when the whole place is open, and have a nice wander around the space. The crowd on the night we went was on the bear-y side, but we also saw that group of queer ladies in the basement, and people of all different races and body types in the space. It was lovely to see a place where diversity is celebrated, and we felt welcome even as out of towners coming for a short visit. The people were lovely, the drinks were strong, and the staff was friendly too. Literally on the way out, as we passed the folks outside having cigarettes, we got them waving goodbye to us and asking us to come back again soon.

Dear reader, Little…read moreGay Pub was quite easily one of our favourite spots in Philly. We went with a group two nights in a row, and everyone had such a great time both nights, which I think says rather a lot. It is not every place that earns an immediate return visit, let alone the very next evening. The music was good, the drinks were great, and the staff was super nice and friendly the entire time, which made the whole experience even better. The place was also really clean, and it never felt too crowded, which was especially appreciated with a group. There was room to actually enjoy ourselves without feeling packed in or shouted over. The rooftop was absolutely the crowd favourite and was so nice with the great weather. It really gave the whole place an extra bit of charm and made it very easy to settle in and stay a while. The location is also excellent, which made it a very convenient spot to come back to. Overall, this place delivered a thoroughly fun time, good drinks, and a very easy atmosphere to enjoy. We would absolutely go back and would happily recommend it.

I understand safety first but I would have liked to seen more. The bartender was friendly and took my likes and offered me a drink to match them. They did a great job - something sweet with cherries, vodka and a touch of Smokey tequila. Upon hearing it was my friends birthday and us willing to try suggestions made based on our likes the bartender gave us drinks on the house. So amazing!! Great place, amazing staff and yummy drinks. Can't go wrong with that combo.

I was here for an event and it was the tail end. By the time I got my drink, everyone else had left but the event host. I tried to talk with an older gentleman standing by himself and he purposely ignored me, lol. This is sadly what I kind of expect no matter what space I am in. A long time ago, I had food here and I remember not caring for it. Maybe I am too much of a critical foodie or maybe things have changed:w the food. I wasn't hungry and I wasn't with anyone. So I didn't want food for this occasion. Most of the people who frequent this bar don't tend to fit my interests or age group mentality. Those that might be my age or younger had their own cliques. There was one exception by chance from someone I was previously acquainted with. The rating is based on a reasonably priced drink and fast service. The rest of the review gives you an idea of part of the reason why I don't frequent many bars specifically without more of a "purpose " now.
