Hung out here at the last minute to catch up with a newish friend. We had a gracious female bartender. Even though I didn't feel I vibed with most of the crowd nor the parade outfitted looking members outside, it was real nice to catch up with this newish friend. The age group and community here feel like more of a fit for me personally. I am not much of a bar person normally. Don't care for the drinks typically unless they are expensive cocktails then maybe lol. read more

U Bar is a fabulous Bar, it gives a friendly neighborhood vibe in the middle of center city Philadelphia. The owner, bartenders are amazing. The food is delicious homemade and affordable., the cocktails are crafted with care ! They also have an inn upstairs from the bar. The inn has visitors from all over the world ! Everyone always has a great time, you gotta try, you will thank me. read more

We had brunch at Darling Jack's Sunday 4.27.25 and needed to kill some time before Philadanco at 2pm. I looked on maps for nearby cocktail bars and found U Bar. We were here briefly. Bartender was welcoming. He made a delicious cosmo. He was clearly working hard to make sure everyone had what they needed. Chill crowd of mostly men enjoying their drinks. Nice big bar and open windows in the front. I would definitely stop here again in the future. read more

This is the bar on the area to hit up for a casual happy hour or night during the weekend if you're looking for a diverse mix crowd that's actually pretty full. This might be the only bar that is consistently packed. The downside is def that there is not as much seating when the back room has special events occurring. The back patio is also very cute and opens up the space more. It's def sports bar vibes but also not. It has a front and back door so that makes exiting the bar very easy and you do not have to squeeze back through the front. They have food but I've never tried it. The bathroom is very standard generic. They def do decent drinks here on top of the usual beer and well drinks. read more

A fun down-to-earth bar in the neighborhood. Drinks are much cheaper than Woodys and the clientele much more friendlier and down to earth. Still holds true to its roots as being a predominantly gay bar unlike Woodys and Voyeur. read more

I kid you not this was the worst bar experience I've ever had in my life. Mind you I'm not from Philly, so maybe this is how yall act and are okay with people talking to you and handling you like that-- but my friend was just looking for his other card to pay because he had lost it, and the bar tender took the drinks from us and started yelling at us that it had been 15 minutes and if we weren't paying then no drinks. I have NEVER had a bartender do that to me, and again maybe yall are just like that up here I don't know, but one thing about it you do not talk to customers that way-- we were in the middle of finding a solution, and he treated us so unkindly. He wore glasses and had white hair and a white beard. I don't know who owns the bar, but maybe check your waiters to see if they have some manners. I was literally about to take my card out and everything. And ALSO my mouth was already on the straw, what was the point of taking the drink away, were you gonna give it to somebody else??? Like he just assumed we weren't going to pay it was WEIRD energy. SO weird. So yeah, go if you like being treated poorly and talked to crazy. read more

I visited on a Saturday around 530pm. It was a full bar but I got immediate service. Had deviled eggs and it was a good appetizer. There were mostly LGBTQ males not women, but over all a great experience. read more

Even before moving to Philly and just visiting, I loved coming to U Bar and last night was no different. While not a huge amount of space, it leans into being a nice neighborhood bar style place. The bartenders are extremely friendly. Chatting with my husband and I while making drinks throughout the few hours we were there. Even the security guard said hi and gave us a quick fist bump. The drinks were nicely poured where they are strong but they still taste smooth. read more

I came to her for a quick drink before heading to the train station. Upon entering the bar, I had a feeling of deja vu and realized that I had visited this bar a few years back. U Bar seems like one of those bars where the locals come to hang out. It's the perfect setting to meet up with friends, grab a few drinks, and head out to enjoy the nightlife of Philly. From my impression, almost everyone at the bar knew each other. That said, the clientele was pretty friendly toward me as a "Johnny come lately." As the name would suggest, the bar is more or less in the shape of a U so you can see pretty much everyone at the bar without making much effort. Unlike many LGBTQ bars, U Bar has a decent enough beer selection. For me next Philly visit, I'll definitely make a point to visit U bar again. read more

This is a cool place! Yesterday, Memorial Day 2019, was my first encounter with U Bar. I actually am not even sure that I've heard of it but it was open at the awkward hour of around 2pm on a holiday and close to 13th street. This place is on the smaller side but the bar is very centrally located. It was super busy on the holiday we visited. The bartender was also really nice and friendly. Our drinks (vodka diet, obv) were served in the smaller glasses rather than a tall class. Not to say they skimped out on the alcohol because there was probably at least a 1:1 ratio with the vodka and soda. I'm so glad I discovered this place! We will definitely be back. read more

While on a small trip to Philly I decided to try this bar with a friend. Our mistake is believing that bar food will actually be good. Not going to lie the menu sounded interesting but seeing and tasting the actual choices did not do it no justice. We started off with Sriracha Deviled Eggs. We get the eggs and it was a deviled egg with a drop of sriracha. The potato skins had so much sour cream and cheddar cheese on top that we couldn't taste the potato. The salads were a bit boring. I had a tuna melt and tomato soup. Both were fair not the best I had. Then last came out spinach and artichoke dip which turned out to be just melted cream cheese. It was quite the disappointment. The one star is really because of the host and serves who were nice. read more

Back to visiting Philly in 2022 after the pandemic kept me away. U Bar is still great! Love it. Nice neighborhood bar that has a service, super friendly crowd, and feels very welcoming. Also no straight-washing here unlike other LGBT bars in Philly. If you are looking for some drinks with friends. Fine here ! read more

I get it, things change...the scene in Philly is much different than I remember from the last century when I lived here...I just would have hoped that it would have been change for the better. Got a drink, was short changed, not much but not the point...tell me what I owe. After I/we did the math, it was a difference of 2 bucks. Wouldn't care so much if there hadn't been lipstick on my glass and attitude from the bartender... At the end of the day, business is business...where are you going to spend your hard earned dollars??? At a place that appreciates your patronage or one who doesn't? I think this may be my first 2-star review as I am usually at one of the extremes. This place has potential, but for a first impression...not so much. I write this to help the business better itself, and better serve its clientele...love!!! read more

This place is a waste of time - I don't even bother to try and go in there when you're packed in like sardines....The atmosphere sucks, the crowd sucks, the drinks suck...pretty much sums up Philadelphia! Pleasant and cozy little pub. Main bar is too wide so there's not much space on either side. Big windows look out onto Locust and Camac Streets. Beer selection is maybe a touch above ordinary. Service is friendly, crowd seems laid back. When I was there with friends they were playing a lot of depressing old pop ballads and R&B songs so it made me more want to go home and cry myself to sleep rather than have a lively time. read more

In for some drinks leading up to an event, bartender helpful, kept on eye on every patron and made great drinks. After two perfectly constructed kettle one cosmopolitans I felt I better grab a bite remembering I hadn't eaten since 5 am. I ordered the pork tacos. It was kind of bland& the pork was chewy. My phone was dying and the bartender very kindly provided a charging cube and cord. This was my first visit to a philly Gayborhood in about 20 years. Admitting that may result in revocation of my LGBTQ license. The drinks were good and the service was excellent. read more

It may sound strange to give a gay bar a 5 star review but folks U Bar deserves it! We were visiting friends in Philly last weekend and had an absolutely awesome time at U Bar. Although it appears to always be crowded, we were able to score spots towards the back of the bar with ease. The crowd was attractive, mixed, friendly, and a lot of fun. There was no attitude or pretentiousness and everyone seemed to have the same focus...to have a great time. The bartenders each night (yes we made multiple stops to U Bar throughout the weekend ) were always professional, efficient, accommodating, and friendly. Bravo U Bar! You embody the essence of what a gay bar should be....comfortable, fun, friendly, entertaining, and serving up a mean cocktails. read more

Super nice staff! Monday nights after my Philadelphia Frontrunners weekly run, U Bar has become a favorite hangout for us runners. They are very accommodating even preparing vegetarian and vegan foods for us that are not on the menu. Great place! read more

U-Bar occupies the footprint of the former Uncles bar, a former legendary establishment in Philadelphia's gayborhood. With the demise of Uncles, there came a top to bottom renovation, fresh pain, removing the years of filthy smoke stench from the walls, new bathrooms, an airy appearance, and a new atmosphere that can only be described as Ultra bright Mehhh... With all the money that they spent on renovations, they forgot to put sound absorbing panels on the wall or something that would attenuate sound. Instead, the bare walls actually reflect and accentuate noise, creating an ultra loud, almost uncomfortable ambiance. Still, it's a wonderful improvement over what it used to be. read more

Stopped by here to grab a quick drink before our dinner reservations. What a nice bar! Wonderful bartender (forget his name but he has some nice tattoos) and very kind patrons. The guy sitting next to us even bought us a round. This definitely feels like the neighborhood Cheers where everyone knows your name... so them welcoming a couple of newbies was very... well....welcoming. More than we can say for the restaurant we had dinner... should've stayed at U bar! LOL Go. Drink. Enjoy! read more

Nice staff and patrons, but they mix their drinks way too strong. Had a rum and Coke once and it was just straight Bacardi with a splash of coke. Happened again today with a gin and tonic. Not the worst thing in the world but just not my liking read more

After getting couple of drinks (2 drinks to be exact) and giving almost $10 in tips bartender asked me and my friend to get off his counter if we are not giving tips duh i just ran out of singles and he came on to us like he needs money badly and i told him sorry here is a $20 bill and he said get out so rude well sorry no one do that to me without a payback read more

Great local bar with super nice staff. Fun happy hour in Friday and a great place to pre-game before sluttin over time the bike stop. Cute twinks mixed in with hot daddies and the occasional friendly gramps, who if you take the time to say hi, may tell you some hysterical jokes or try to grab up on your butt. Ha! read more

The different rooms that play different types of music is always something that I adored about this location. There's also SO much space!! However really do not like how common it's become for people to be drugged or harassed. The bartender was extremely rude when we tried ordering drinks, and after catching an attitude, he ignored us and served other customers. 10/10 do not recommend and definitely will avoid at all costs when I'm in Philly.

I was here for an event and it was the tail end. By the time I got my drink, everyone else had left but the event host. I tried to talk with an older gentleman standing by himself and he purposely ignored me, lol. This is sadly what I kind of expect no matter what space I am in. A long time ago, I had food here and I remember not caring for it. Maybe I am too much of a critical foodie or maybe things have changed:w the food. I wasn't hungry and I wasn't with anyone. So I didn't want food for this occasion. Most of the people who frequent this bar don't tend to fit my interests or age group mentality. Those that might be my age or younger had their own cliques. There was one exception by chance from someone I was previously acquainted with. The rating is based on a reasonably priced drink and fast service. The rest of the review gives you an idea of part of the reason why I don't frequent many bars specifically without more of a "purpose " now.

Start the night with a cocktail and live music -- they typically have someone playing the piano, which sets the mood perfectly. Later in the evening, the Vault transforms into a nightclub, so you really get two experiences in one spot. The space itself is stunning. The velvet chairs are incredibly photo-worthy, and even the bathrooms are beautiful!! A great mix of atmosphere, music, and energy -- definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.
