For my Dad's 60th birthday I was asked by my very picky mom to find a caterer that would fit our very modest budget. After considering other caterers that would cost up to three times the amount, Lety's (or Rios Catering) was recommended to me by a friend. They fit our budget but we decided to go by the restaurant to try the tacos firsthand. We were very impressed with not only the flavors, but the attention to our needs. Jorge Rios came to our table and asked if the meal was to our satisfaction. We ended up going with carne asada, chicken, and pork tacos with peppers and onions, rice, beans, chips, salsa, and horchata. Jerry, from Rios Catering, arrived early and set up to cook on-site. All he needed was a table and some shade. He worked hard all evening (didn't sit down once). We would totally hire this service again. We were a little worried at first because getting in touch with her seemed to be touch and go. In addition, we were slightly alarmed by the negative reviews we read. However, their prices were SO much cheaper than everyone else that we contacted, and they offered so much more than they did. We live in Porter Ranch, and it seems like the taco caterers here should be a dime a dozen because there's one on every street corner. I guess competition is a concept on which they are unclear. It should be noted that Lety's comes from a hell of a long way, Compton! My husband questioned them regarding the negative Yelp reviews, and she was honest. I could see some of the situations happening to anyone else given her side of the story. (Remember, especially for negative reviews, there ARE two sides, and some people just aren't happy UNLESS they write negative reviews. This is why I like to read samples of the reviewers' reviews to see if they have anything good to say about anyone else.) Our housewarming party happened to be on the VERY day that southern California decided to attempt to make up for the years long drought, and it rained horribly. To say this put a damper on our party is the understatement of the year. I don't recall the fellow's name who provided us with such exemplary service, so I will call him Mr. Wonderful. Mr. Wonderful showed up as he said he would about two hours before our party, and he drove in the driving rain. Unfortunately, we had to set him up in our garage, which worked out fine. He had ALL the equipment including utensils, paper plates, napkins, and everything he needed with which to cook. We asked for chicken, pork, and beef tacos, and he provided all the condiments, as well as rice and beans. Based on the number of RSVPs, we told Lety that we would have about 100 people. We probably had half of that, but the ones that showed up were treated to a great meal! Wow! The food was fantastically delicious. I'm no judge of tacos, but outside of Rosarita, these are the best I've ever had! Everything was fresh, and it tasted so healthy. I highly recommend their taco bar!! In fact, I would say that Lety's was the hit of the party. A lot of our friends were happy to have more than two, and Mr. Wonderful let us have the leftovers. The amount of time he stayed to cook and serve us was definitely ample. I feel confident that had our guests who flaked out actually shown up, Lety's would have absolutely had enough to cover that many guests. Oh, and by the way, they did speak perfect English, and I'm one who isn't good with understanding accents. Although we did not have a communication problem, I would suggest prospective hosts make sure to check, double check, and confirm details of your event. We used this caterer for a party at our house, and the food and service were equally AMAZING. Chef set up in our back yard and prepared food for approximately 35 people. Everyone stuffed their faces, and we still had TONS left over for ourselves. (Can't lie; we ate Mexican for a week, then wished we had even more.) Can't recommend this company highly enough; we will most definitely be using them again in the future. read more

I learned about Lety's on YELP and am glad that I used them to cater my husband's 40th birthday bash. The food was fantastic, the service was too! They made everything so easy. From ordering over the phone, to their service at the party. Our chef, Ivan, was prompt (actually, he came a bit early...when does that ever happen?). The food was ready to go at the time we requested, and there were plenty of leftovers. Our guests were able to choose from chicken, asada, and pastor tacos. Not a meat eater myself I asked about vegetarian options and am glad that I did. The veggie tacos were really tasty. Even the carnivores liked them. There was an extra cost for the veggies, though the cost was minimal. Rice and beans cost extra too, but the price is also reasonable. Just a note, that the minimum number of guests they will cater for is 40. Even at that number, including rice and beans and veggie tacos (all extras), it works out to be less than $10 a person. What a huge deal, and so much fun at a party!!! And talk about fun, along with the taco cart we had racing cars, courtesy of rc10racing. Dave, the owner/operator, showed up and transformed our ordinary backyard into a racetrack. Imagine radio-controlled cars, zipping around the grass, around a tree, up a ramp, jumping the stairs, and another ramp, the controls in your hands. We all had a blast. The cars are fast and fun to drive and to race. rc10racing took a fun evening of tacos, cervezas, and friends to the next notch. Plus, Dave is the man. He transformed our yard into a speedway of fun, and had cars for every racer's fantasy. He was really helpful, supportive, and fun. Between Lety's and rc10racing, my husband not only weathered his 40th milestone quite well, but he actually said that this was the best birthday party he'd ever had! Loved Lety's tacos! Hired them for my sons birthday party and everyone LOVED the food! The people we dealt with were so responsive and helpful:) can't say more than positive things about the lady they sent day of party. She helped us pull everything together. Had a great experience with Lety's Catering service for my wife's 50th birthday party that had over 85 people. The food was fantastic. Everyone loved the steak, chicken and carnitas tacos. Veggies, chips, salsa and guacamole were a smash as well. Hugo, the chef, was very professional, accommodating and a pleasure to work with. His assistant Alicia was there setting up the food and making sure everything ran smoothly. The only negative I had about Lety's was the initial contact. It was hard to get a hold of them because they are very busy. As soon as I got Cecilia's (the catering manager) contact information it was smooth sailing after that. The prices are great as well as the quality of the food. I will be booking them in the future. FYI - I am very skeptical of reviews on Yelp and anywhere else but I am not related or a friend of this business. I believe in helping out people that have done such a great service. Well, the short review is, THEY WERE A COMPLETE NO SHOW! I booked Lety's for this last Saturday 4/11/15. I spoke with a man on their English business number 1 week prior and arranged everything. I had more than 50 people over for a house warming party. The pool was warm, the weather was beautiful, and everyone was very excited for the tacos that I thought were coming. I was told the week before that Lety's would show up at 2 pm for the 3 pm serving. I had the table out and an extension cord with power strip run to a location that was covered and shaded for their comfort while cooking. At about 2:20 pm, with the party in full swing, I started getting a little nervous because they had not shown up yet and there was no call or text saying they would be late or something. I called the same number I used to book them to check on the their status. After someone there handed the phone off to some one else I was greeted by a young girl's voice. I explained the situation to her calmly and cordially and just wanted to make sure they were coming. She took my name and number and said she would find out what was going on and call me back. After waiting 15-20 minutes I started to get the funny feeling that I was not going to receive a call back and no one was going to show up. Unfortunately...... I WAS RIGHT!!! I called at least 10 times after waiting for a callback and what do you know, no one answered now! Voicemail every time. It's now Monday and I still do not have any explanation as to what happened! I have never had such an unprofessional experience as I had with these taco hacks! I hate writing reviews but this experience really blew me away. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS AND GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE!
