I've had the pleasure of having Carlos at three birthday parties over the years, and his food has always been a highlight of the events. I'll start there -- I would recommend The Taco Man for the tacos alone, especially the carnitas and al pastor, which are incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned. Being from Southern California, standards for tacos are high, and I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Carlos -- it's top-notch. The bacon-wrapped hot dogs and quesadillas are an excellent bonus, and my guests all enjoyed the horchata and strawberry lemonade. But it's not just the food. Carlos has always been very friendly and professional with great communication before and during the events. I appreciate that he is the one who initiates the call in the days leading up to the event to make sure that he has all of the details of my order correct. He arrives on time to set up and prepare the food and sides/drinks table, and is kind and pleasant with the guests while he serves the tacos. At the last event this past week, we had a handful of guests who were not able to show up, meaning we had lots of food left over. Carlos took the time to pack up the leftover meats, tortillas, rice, beans, onions and hot sauces for us. And trust me, we had several guests asking if they could take some home with them. We also had three flavors of aqua fresca, and I asked for longer service so he cooked and then served till 7 pm, his pricing was fair to say the least and he provided plates, utensils and napkins. He then left my family leftovers!!!! Including left over aqua fresca. There is not a shadow of a doubt I'd call anyone other than the taco man "carlos" for future needs. We had probably close to 200 guests. I had projected 150, carlos made it happen and my phone won't stop with the expression of thanks along with compliments on the food and drinks. I wanted to interact with my guests, and thus have a hands-free dinner. Bingo for that! They took care of entree, sides, drink, and eatingware. I wanted good chow, at an economical price. After pricing several Yelped caterers, I settled on Carlos and Crew due to his prompt responsiveness. Glad I did. I'm always wary of never having interacted with a caterer though. Can they cook? Do they use quality foods? Are they sanitary? Etc. Well, check, check, and check. I barely got to down a quesadilla before my guests started to arrive, so I didn't really taste the food until the day after (The crew left plenty of food to nibble on!). Yum to everything! I got: carne asada, chicken, fish, and veggies. Yes! Great choices! I might opt for al pastor versus asada, but the chicken, fish, and veggies were on point! I also had quesadillas, but later found from my guests that this option was not offered them upon ordering. As a matter of fact, they thought there was no cheese, so I put my own out. One star off! I opted for strawberry agua fresca. Seemed no one liked it but me; good thing I'm the birthday girl! The rice is delicious. Apparently, you have to specify refried beans? No one ate the whole brown beans. The crew was timely, efficient, and friendly. They verified address, scoped the spot, set up, and went to work. I thought it'd be Carlos, and wasn't notified it'd be crew, but it worked out. They were friendly, one speaking Spanish, and the other bilingual. The set up was great; they got permissions as warranted. I wish they had a menu, or had offered the fish/veggie/quesadilla options, as I have many friends fitting into those categories. It's only while mingling that I found they didn't know these options were available. I like payment via secured site versus a cash settlement. I honestly didn't want to post this but at this point the lack of communication, numerous text messages to Carlos and no answer and the disrespect and unprofessionalism it has led me to this. I don't want anyone to have to go through this. I was referred by a good friend that he was reliable and trustworthy and has amazing tacos. Booked him via text and trusting him for my daughters event and with time. At the moment we were remodeling my back yard for the event and of course I was guaranteed that it would be done before my event So I went ahead and made the decision of booking the catering and everything else . Two weeks after booking him I found out my backyard was not going to be done with time. I was so bummed out and did everything possible to see what we can do to get something done but due to the circumstances it was out of my control. I texted Carlos to let him know what my situation was and how I needed to cancel. When I first booked with him he didn't mention anything about the refund or cancellation policy he has so I figured I'm letting him know way ahead of time and there shouldn't be an issue. Mind you , which it is my fault. When I zelled Carlos the deposit of $200 he promised to send me via email with my receipt and the date for the event that I had booked with him was never send to me. I never did receive it and didn't ask for it but he confirmed with the text. Ok so them ... When I texted him he did answer me and gave me the run around then towards our 3rd text conversation he said he would have to speak to his wife about refunding me the $200 since usually they only refund $100. I explain to him i was letting him know wat ahead of time and the refund policy was never explained to me. He stated he has never been cancelled before. I apologized to him and told him to talk to his wife and let me know. One week goes by , two weeks go by and I text him again. Reads my message but doesn't respond. Another week goes by we are now mid May and nothing but reads my messages. We are now the first week of June. I called and text him and I get a response that his wife send me the money. Didn't say the amount , didn't send me a proof. Texted him again letting him know to send me proof of where it was sent to since I didn't receive it and no response but reads my message. I understand it's a small business owned and people and the economy are struggling but I was also courteous to let him know way , way ahead of time. I did my part as soon as I found out my situation ,I communicated with him. I've never had to go through something like this. Things happen where sometimes we have no control of. If he would have cancelled on me yes I would be a bit upset since I'll have to start looking again but he contacted me ahead of time, I move forward . Same here , I contacted him ahead of time. Why is he not replying back ? Why do I have to be bothering him over my hard working money. I already have to deal with rearranging my daughters special day and planning events is already stressful enough. Everyone is telling me that he's probably a fraud. I have a lot of friends in the business industry and they all tell me that if they don't want a bad review on Yelp or Google they will do what they can and respond to there clients at a timely manner. That's not my case here. My best friend who's an attorney has suggested to take him to small claims court since $200 is $200 and if I don't do something about it and let him get away with it he will do it to more people and that's just not fair. This is a very messed up situation to be honest. Again, I'm a huge Google contributor and Yelp reviewer and I didn't want to do this but after numerous text and phone calls and given the cold shoulder and ignored. I've made the decision to do this and I hope no one ever has to go through this. People be careful when booking any small business for your events like this business who doesn't provide you with a written contract and please make sure to ask about there policies. read more

I felt obligated to write this one for anyone wanting to use them as a caterer for their party. Planning a party is stressful and getting food is most important for guests. I saw decent reviews and was recommend this "taco man" . The first text was for me politely inquiring. I get a rude response and it literally says "what day, how many people" no hello! Or thank you! It was literally a two worded response. I was like okay...gave them the benefit. Maybe they were busy. Whatever the case I have about 40 but I can work with the minimum and also stated the city. This is the part that upset me. The person leaves me on read. So I waited a few days. No response. I called, no response. So I tried calling my back up taco people and THEY FILLED THE DATE that we wanted while we were waiting for this person To respond. Do not trust this business with your party. Since our event, I have referred a few friends and family. Carlos' mom cooked at our event and was very kind! We used them for my daughter's 1st birthday party. We had about 60 guests. Out of all the quotes I received, they weren't the cheapest option, but they included a lot in their package. Communication was great until I paid the $150 deposit, after that I had to initiate all contact and received short one line responses that didn't answer my questions. The most annoying part was that before we chose them we asked for refried beans instead of pinto beans. They said they would do this because "they cater to their customers." One of the reasons I chose them was because they were willing to make this accommodation. I even confirmed the day before the party that they were bringing refried beans and was told, "yes." They brought pinto beans. Quesadillas were included in the package, but they ran out of cheese and asked us to provide them with more. There was plenty of meat and condiments (salsas, limes, onions, etc). The bacon wrapped hot dogs were also a hit. They packed up all the leftovers for us. They also left a huge amount of pineapple agua fresca (it was really good!) Overall they were ok, but I won't use them again. I probably would have overlooked the fact that they ran out of cheese if they had brought the refried beans that were promised. read more

I dealt with Carlos from the very begging, 4 weeks ago. I needed his catering service for 50 people at Neff park in La Mirada. He assured me he was licensed and had everything needed to work there, no problem he said! just send me the $200 deposit money to book your party. But after choosing the menu one week before the party he failed to show proof to the city of La Mirada parks and recreations of liability insurance and licensing which is necessary for him to bring his equipment to cater the food. It was too late for me to start looking for a new caterer when I had 50 guests coming to the party I ended up having to pay extra, not only for the food but also the liability insurance of $80 he couldn't provide proof of, Plus the license he carried was only for Orange County, this park is located in LA County. Please don't trust this guy he will tell you anything to get your money and then he doesn't do anything to help you. This is not the way to conduct business, he had me in pins and needles until the very last minute. His name is Carlos and his food was superb. I booked him because his price was affordable and it came with more food than all of the other "taco man" businesses. Besides tacos, his catering service also included salsas, rice/beans, quesadillas or street dogs and my favorite, agua fresca (fresh Mexican juice). He brought plates, cups, utensils and even condiments for the bacon wrapped hot dogs. The meat was so delicious. He brought more than enough. We had so much left over. All of my guests were able to take some home. I have to say, it tasted even better the next day. He gave me a choice of complementary quesadillas OR 25 Bacon wrapped hotdogs! I couldn't choose between the two, so I asked for both which he does charge extra for, but it was worth every penny! The juice was amazing. He brought a gigantic jug! Carlos had 11 flavors to choose from. I ordered watermelon and it tasted so fresh. It was a hit at my party. Carlos worked hard. He was super friendly and was very professional.
