For those days when you want something other than typical Italian fare, hit up Lettere Caffé for a more Middle Eastern/Asian vegan flavor!
It was a weird hour to be hungry, as it often is for me, but we had been traveling all day and I hadn't had an opportunity to eat. After checking into our AirBnB in Trastevere, I searched for vegan options at the ungodly hour of 4pm and found this awesome place.
Go past the small outdoor cafe area and once inside, you'll be hit with serious oldschool coffeehouse vibes! Who doesn't love that? Two small rooms, books and knick knacks everywhere, mismatched vintage furniture... you get me? It's not just coffee and pastry, though.
When I asked for a menu from our welcoming proprietress, she told me that they don't have menus in the interest of public safety as well as the environment (appreciate!). When she described that day's special plate, I was sold. And yes, wine, please.
The daily plate had a variety of delicious offerings and it reminded me of when I'd hit up macrobiotic places in Paris a while back. There were tiny scoops of delectable items, all of it plant based and wholesome, not a single processed food item. Spring rolls to salad to root veggies to legumes. It was perfectly spiced and seasoned. I'm sorry I don't have specifics but I loved every bit of it.
If I were to have a longer stay in Rome, I could see myself coming here daily with my laptop. It's the perfect environment to get some work or reading done. It's very intimate, so meeting a friend or two would be swell, too. read more
