She created my lifting program for me each week, I completed my workouts at home and sent her videos of my lifts throughout the week for feedback, and every month I visited her awesome gym in Baltimore for an in-person coaching session. Choosing to work with Emily was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my fitness journey. Not only is she incredibly knowledgable about lifting, but she's also fun, patient, and encouraging! My form on all of my lifts (squat, deadlift, overhead press, and bench press) improved dramatically as a result of Emily's coaching. She pointed out corrections that I would have never noticed on my own. Her guidance gave me the knowledge and confidence to add some serious weight to my lifts and now I'm stronger than I have ever been in my life. If you're considering a membership or coaching with Emily or anyone at Fivex3, just go for it! You will be incredibly happy that you did!

South Baltimore Crossfit is filled with helpful, intelligent coaches that are dedicated to helping…read moreyou do your very best day in and day out. The care and dedication they show to each and every member--novice or veteran--is apparent every time I go to class. The members here are just excited about working out as you are, which actually makes working out enjoyable. Can you say that about your current routine? The owners are constantly putting in overtime to make sure the space meets and exceeds the needs of their members. Almost every time I go to class they've ordered something new for us to play with, or organized an area of the gym that needed some extra love. For example, the old office was recently demolished to make room for additional lifting platforms so that the growing Strength class would have more room to spread out. SBCF is fully involved in the community, whether they're hosting a weightlifting meet or firing up the grill and breaking out the beer pong during a tailgate party. They have a super informative (and amusing) blog, and they also keep their Facebook and Twitter pages updated regularly with upcoming events, closures, and funny pictures and videos (I like that kind of stuff). The positive results I've seen in myself, both physically and mentally, make all the hard work completely worth it. I've worked out on my own in the past and have never had such amazing results. I've only been doing Crossfit for three months, but my friends are constantly commenting on how fit I look. They'll even make me flex my arms now and again. Oh, and ladies? If you've ever wanted to lift weights without feeling intimidated, this is absolutely the place to do it. No, you won't get bulky, but be warned: you may get into the best shape of your life.

Highly recommend Activate Body!…read more I've been training at Activate Body for a month now and love the setup. They offer strength training for all ages, but they specialize in the 50+ age group, which is exactly what I was looking for. The classes are small and intimate, ranging from just 3 to 6 people. Because of the small size, you get a ton of attention from the personal trainers, and sometimes you even end up getting a 1-on-1 session. I started with water aerobics, and in May I added EA Fit Club to challenge myself in a new way. In just 12 sessions, Eric Atherton has pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of while making sure the workouts can be adapted to different fitness levels. As someone who's 6'2" and larger than anyone else in my classes, I appreciate that I can work at my own pace while still being challenged every single class. I've never felt like I didn't belong or that the space wasn't made for me. I'm currently down 55 pounds overall, and EA Fit Club has helped me build strength, confidence, and consistency. Believe me, after every workout my body lets me know I put in the work--but that's exactly why I keep coming back. Eric is encouraging, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in seeing everyone succeed. If you're looking for a supportive community and a coach who will challenge you while meeting you where you are, I highly recommend EA Fit Club.

If you have never tried Reformer Pilates before, I highly recommend rushing to sign up for a class!…read moreLast night, at the invitation of Yelp, I attended my first Reformer Pilates session at The Village Well Baltimore. The Village Well Baltimore is a very charming and clean studio, and the instructor is extremely motivating. There were some really cheerful products in the retail area, so I bought myself a pair of socks... Right now, my muscles feel as though they've had a massage; I'm experiencing a pleasant soreness and can really feel that my muscles have been worked. So, what exactly is Reformer Pilates? What makes it different, and what are its benefits? Essentially, it is a Pilates method that utilizes specialized equipment. Built around a unique spring-based mechanism, the Reformer machine works muscles in a versatile way and is suitable for individuals at any fitness level. Fundamentally, it promotes body flexibility, engages all muscle groups, improves balance, and facilitates fat burning. It aims to alleviate muscle, joint, and back pain while enhancing flexibility and coordination. It helps reduce spinal issues, strengthens the pelvic floor muscles, and tones and shapes the body. It increases muscle density and improves mobility, helping to prevent pain in the shoulders, back, and lower back. It engages sluggish lower abdominal muscles, boosts concentration, and regulates breathing rhythms. It also corrects posture and issues like slouching. In short, you notice your muscles working from the very first session, and with continued practice, you can see the body toning and lengthening. By the way, did you know that Reformer Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates during World War I to aid in the rehabilitation and recovery of soldiers?
