I write this from a hard chair, where I've been working for the past many hours, and from which in…read morethe "pre-baby era" I'd be crawling into bed rather than face the gym. These days, with a nine-month-old and an ever-busier career - plus, let's face it, some pregnancy weight to shed - I can afford myself no such luxury. Fitting some kind of workout in has become a key part of keeping (minimally) sane. At the same time, I am just not up for a self-abusive exercise regimen; struggle to hold myself accountable to a solo routine; get annoyed with the mind-body aspects of yoga that I'm supposed to be loving; and find swimming gross in the winter. What's a fickle and exhausted 30-something to do? Enter: The Bar Method. I will not tell a lie, I originally referred to this place as the "rich housewife workout studio." I thought I was signing up for a room full of teensy tiny, Range Rover-driving women comparing diamond rings and Lululemon pants, among whom I'd feel alienated within ten minutes. (No offense to Lululemon pants. I wear them too.) I was surprised and delighted to find that the studio is mostly full of other busy professionals who have finally found something that "sticks," and have decided, as I have, that the investment in an effective but low-impact workout is worth it. Is there a slight culture of uniformity? I mean, sure, it's a franchise. But the owner, Ally, has made The Bar Method - Baltimore a genuinely welcoming and supportive space, and the trade-off of subscribing to the Bar Method brand is that her facility is top-of-the-line, sparkling clean, and calming from the moment you walk in. I have gone regularly with a couple of longer breaks (two weeks and about a month, respectively), and I am seeing results. I have *ridges* starting to show on my stomach, ladies! The Bar Method is not cardio intensive, and I would love to see more of the "Bar Move" class - a fusion of dance and the traditional isolation moves - that they've recently introduced. On the whole, though, I've been spoiled, and I'm not about to work out anywhere else, anytime soon.

Been going to Bar Method Baltimore for three years and I still look forward to it every day. Love…read morethe entire staff and how I feel after each class. -Arielle

Neat features: -TV synced with iPad's to count down time for exercises and for rest. This was really neat and a nice transparent motivator - I like having a proper end point and goal to work toward and that helped supplement so you weren't trying to just hear one person say how long you have over the noise of the gym. - TRX - one of my favorite moves and they have TONS of straps. Was awesome that this was incorporated into the workout - Crossfit/bootcamp like equipment like the sled, ropes, rowing machine, and boxes for jumping. Neat because I haven't had the opportunity to do workouts with those sorts of materials before and I really enjoyed it - Kettlebells - another Crossfit type workout item that I LOVE and they ran a good type of challenging workout with these. Really benefited from that and learned some new, safe techniques with these that I will definitely continue to employ - Enough trainers dispersed for a class to help give some individual attention to each person there Just enough space for what they need, and surprising variety. They even offered us an additional free group class card to come and try another one of the types of classes that they offer. Thank you Red Run for a great experience!

I found DivaDance in a random Google search of dance classes in the area, and my expectations have been absolutely surpassed in every sense. DivaDance is such a wonderful community, and every class is such a comfortable and judgement free zone (which is important when you are throwing it down and shamelessly trying new moves & choreo). DivaDance has been amazing for my work-life balance, and for pushing my homebody self to step away from my computer, get moving / trick my body into exercising, and meet new people!! As a side note, DivaDance classes always feature really amazing & wonderful women, as a woman in STEM I don't see a small number in my daily life, so dance has always been my favorite way to meet more diverse sets of people, and DivaDance has certainly been a great source of this in my life since they value empowerment and confidence.

She did a good job of moving to different parts of the room to demonstrate the steps because the room was a little narrow and long so sometimes hard to see her with people in the way. I hadn't danced in a while so this class was good as a refresher If you are absolutely new to dance, the class might have been harder to follow. That being said, there were people of all levels in the class and it was really fun. Our choreo was to 50 cent " In Da Club". I plan to try another class and recommend this if you want to have a lot of fun and dance!
