Great place to get a good work out in where you get encouraged and feel purpose and part of a team. Results driven while having a good time.

Overall, it is much less expensive than belonging to a gym like MAC or Merritt and paying for personal training and nutritional counseling.

I had the opportunity to visit the Stretch Zone and I am glad I finally did it. As a person that is…read morereally active in the gym with my HITT and strength training routines, alot of times just stretching before and after my workouts are just not enough. Not to mention, I work in an office and I am pretty sedentary majority of the day. So coming to Stretch Zone to get that really good deep stretch will help. Stretch Zone is not in the business of making people more flexible. They are in the business of reeducating the nerve-muscle reflex, which allows you to move easier. Their goal isn't to make you more "flexible" or "elastic," it is to increase your active range of motion, so that you can move further without feeling a stretch. Stretch Zone works through the nervous system to achieve lasting flexibility gains. I had my initial assessment with Nora. I suffer from tight hips and sore quads and hamstrings, my ultimate goal is to achieve deeper squats whenever I am barbell squatting or doing dead lifts. When I tell you Nora was able to get into the nitty gritty with my assisted stretches. I left out of there walking much better when I came in. I also signed up to get a stretch once a week. The great thing is they accept HSA/FSA cards as well, so you can definitely utilize your flexible spending dollars towards this service. I highly recommend this place for folks that just want a better range of motion.

Let's start with, I hate exercise. But somehow I really enjoy going to this gym and the people I've…read moremet there. There's no attitude or competition, and the clients are of all ages. It's run by two amazing, friendly women, one of whom trains my little group with great humor, flexibility, and attention to our needs. The exercises are staged to our various fitness levels and she's always encouraging us to do a little better each visit. Highly recommend!

Arenal Fitness is a CrossFit affiliate in Pikesville. I became acquainted with them through a…read moreGroupon offer, and I'm really glad I gave them a try. Treadmills and typical group classes weren't cutting it for me; it all felt like a boring waste of time. CrossFit is a pretty intense experience, but they emphasize scaling things to your current level and make it doable for yourself (but not easy! Never easy!). It's a stripped-down style of training, focusing heavily on using good form and developing functional strength (probably why it's so popular with military, police officers, and firefighters). The equipment is all very simple - free weights, jump ropes, barbells, kettlebells, plyo boxes, etc. Every day, there is a different WOD (workout of the day) to keep your body guessing. Typical activities include body-weight work (pull-ups, push-ups, dips, squats), weight lifting, running, jumping. All of the trainers are knowledgeable, SUPER friendly, and encouraging, but they don't let you get away with bad form or half-assed efforts. Everybody cheers you on to get yourself up there for that that last pull-up. The goal is to leave having surprised yourself with what you were able to do. I think the recent Groupon deal brought in a surge of new members, so if you're new to this sort of workout, don't be shy about showing up for a demo or the Basics class sessions. There will be tons of newbies there figuring things out with you. There are also plenty of serious athletes who work out here; it's cool to see them do amazing things and imagine getting up to that level someday. Arenal is located at the far end of the The Shops at Quarry Lake, so if you get there super early or have the wherewithal after class, you could run errands. There's tons of free parking as well, and easily accessible from 695. Price-wise, Arenal seems comparable to other CrossFit gyms in the area (leaning toward cheaper, actually) and describes its pricing as "a la carte". They have many levels of membership, from pay-per-class to monthly unlimited classes to full 24/7 access if you're comfortable training on your own. Every review has to include some cons. The locker room situation isn't the best. There are 3 unisex changing rooms, 2 of which have shower stalls. For stashing your stuff, there is only a small bank of lockers. Most of us pile our stuff on the floor in a corner. I'm lucky to have time to change at home before class; otherwise, my nice work clothes could get pretty crumpled. Also, the gym seems pretty full these days, so be prepared to share equipment, alternate sets with people, and wait a little while for your turn. That's not THAT big a deal, though, is it? Pretty standard gym stuff. Long story short (too late!), Arenal is a great, diverse gym for people looking to challenge themselves. Definitely worth a look.

I've been loving Monday night spin classes with Zain - he is an incredible instructor with the best playlists. His class is some of the most fun I've had at a workout class. It feels more like dancing with a group of friends than working out. I bike about 10 miles in his 45 minute class which is something I just never thought I'd be capable of. I've also been enjoying Wednesday evening barre classes upstairs with Erin. This is a new class and I hope they keep it on the schedule! Erin is a great instructor who queues very clearly and makes the class feel fun with her high energy. As someone who primarily weight lifts, barre is such a refreshing challenge for me. I feel like I'm learning a whole new skill set in that class. For a bit, I was also liking the Thursday evening mat pilates class with Chi but they seemed to have taken it off the schedule now :( The weight training areas continue to be conducive for a great workout. My only wish would be that they replace some of the elliptical machines with treadmills. When the gym gets a little busy, it's easy for the treadmills to fill up pretty fast since there's about 8 treadmills total. Whereas, there's probably twice as many ellipticals and I don't think I've ever seen more than a few people using them at a time. I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that you now how to ask the front desk for a towel - this isn't something I've seen at any of the other locations. The bathrooms are a bit outdated and could use some updating as well.

Love this gym! The staff are so friendly and the facilities are always clean. I have all of the…read moreequipment that I need for my lifts, which I also really appreciate.
