We love Coppermine at Meadowbrook! It has been amazing for our boys (5 and 8). Everyone working there is fun, patient, and really engaged with the kids. There's so much for the kids to do--sports, swimming, creative activities--you name it. It's super well-run and organized, which we really appreciate as parents. The staff is warm and friendly. The pools are huuuuuuge. There is a swathe of beach (which we lovingly refer to as Hampden Beach / The Hampdens) that is a perfect place to lay out and bask in sunshine. The gym is rarely utilized, which I love for a focused and quiet workout. The locker rooms are nothing to write home about but I do not come here to spend more time than needed in the locker room. Parking is great and now "daddy" Coppermine is coming in to make further improvements. It's all gravy baby! read more

This historic community aquatic center is amazing in the summer - with multiple pools, a beach, a playground, a summer swim instruction program, tennis courts, and a cafe with good food. It has great hours, you can leave your chairs there for the summer and has a warm friendly feel. There are serious swimmers and there are families and this club allows for it all while maintaining professional swim teams. Only complaint is the uneven quality of swim instructors and the parents who don't watch their little kids in the water. read more

This is a "good, but..." review. The pools are great, but that'd better be all you're joining for. Great swim lessons and swim coaches to be sure. The gym equipment is OK, but also needs cleaning. I've been following a set of cobwebs and window smudges that haven't moved for the last six months. I tried to recruit a friend recently, but when she saw the fitness class schedule and the pricing, said, "really?" The staff are kind and courteous, but when I was a younger lifeguard, the staff were always scrubbing, mopping, and cleaning. The therapy pool (when accessible) and the area next to it and the hot tub reek of mildew. There seems to be someone always cleaning the bathrooms, and yes, it is a neverending effort, but a spray bottle and a roll of paper towels is not deep cleaning, and it too is always a little musty. I know they're trying to do some sprucing up of the facility, but a good dunk in a bleach bucket and a scrub brush would be a good place to start. I know pools are expensive to run, but you expect more your membership dollars, not to mention a facility that by description you'd absolutely expect to be 5 stars. This place has enormous potential. Please work harder - my folks are talking back to the MAC where saltwater, cleanliness, and a good fitness schedule is king. read more

If you're looking for a private swim instructor for your child, I'd advise you not to use Shana. My 7 year old daughter was being poorly instructed by her. Shana's attitude was very poor at best. There were several occasions where the instructor didn't get in the water with my child. It wasn't discovered immediately because the other parent took her to some of classes. This was witnessed by the head person Nick who himself said this wasn't like her. Too many swimming programs available to put up with this crap. read more

I've been a member here for a few years now and have noticed NO infrastructure improvements at all. The locker rooms are still seamy, they constantly run out of hot water for showers. It's also very crowded. It seems that the members of Meadowbrook subsidize the search for the next Michael Phelps as the swim teams usually are taking up nearly all of the lanes during prime swim times. Unfortunately, there aren't many choices for places to swim in the Baltimore area so you are stuck if you want to find a swim venue with a 50 meter pool. read more

I recommend that you stay away. I am not happy with the cleanliness here. Hair and things floating in the water. The attitude of the staff is really bad. They all seem so snide and condescending. It is like they are laughing at you behind your back; especially with any serious complaint. I would not let my kids swim here because the instructors are terrible. People act like they own the place and do NOT conduct proper lane etiquette. Basically rude swimmers here. Probably I would think from being on competitive swim teams. I would never want my kid on a swim team there. Oh well. I wont go back there. read more

I struggle with how to rate Meadowbrook. My heart says they're a 5, for the sheer quality of swim teachers and staff. My mind says remove a point for quality of venue. So here I am, not sure if I should give a 5 or a 4. With that said, hands down, the instructors at Meadowbrook are easily the best you'll find in the region, if not beyond. The pools themselves are great. I love the lap pools and the toddler pool is the perfect size and temperature for my little guy. My son flat out refused two other swim schools but is excelling here. I was going to take him to Meadowbrook when he was older since it's not that close to us, but after he rejected two other schools, I went where my heart said to take him in the first place and he is now really thriving in swim. The locker room leaves much to be desired, but at the end of the day, the locker room doesn't go home with me and I like their competitive pricing (same pricing as KFSS and YMCA, but with *much* better teachers) so I say it's not that big of a deal to me. I do wish that they had daycare year-round so I could use this pool as my own lap pool like I did before becoming a mom. Now it's my son's pool and I go elsewhere for my own swim that has childcare year-round (but any classes I take are still here during the cooler months when they have a childcare option). We single moms need venues with daycare. So, I guess childcare combined with the locker rooms forces me to take off a point if I'm grading the venue as a whole, but I really hate to because the instructors are well beyond 5-star. read more

I got a family membership to this place as a birthday gift. Here is the reason that was money flushed down the drain. The reason they take the money for the membership upfront is because once you use the facility you realize how bad it is. Their standard verbiage after you pay the money is "We are under no obligation to return the money to you" Facts: 1)The management of this place is very rude. (read other reviews to confirm) 2) The shower facilities are extremely dated. There is a open shower area for men and women and no family changing area. The construction was completed in the 30s and it shows. 3) The management tells you that the pools are kept at a constant temperature and heated. Only one pool is heated ie the smallest one the rest are ice cold. 4) I was in the smaller pool teaching my daughter to swim. The staff took out Clorox bleach bottle and poured the bleach on a towel and started cleaning the pool wall with Bleach while myself and a few kids were in the pool. 5) The gym facilities are extremely dated. The treadmills and other equipment are uninviting at best and dangerous at worst. Observation: I don't know if they dislike colored individuals or they are just rude to everyone. The Michael phelps swim school moved out of this facility, you should consider going to any other facility , this facility is a disaster and my membership is a sunk cost. read more

Been a member for decades; Meadowbrook is a treasure, Fantastic pools, very decent upstairs gym; many classes. The mens' locker room could be larger, but in general not a problem unless you go in the early a.m. when everyone is trying to get in before going to work. read more

Although this place trains some of the best athletes in the world and the instructors I've met are very nice and good at what they do there isn't much else to it. The facilities need a lot of upgrades and the management is difficult to deal with. All of the instruction, at least for the younger children, is very very ridged as far as schedules go. There is ZERO flexibility in instruction times or length for individual instruction. Basically you can choose either 4:30 on Tuesdays or 7 on Thursdays for 40 minutes for six weeks and you should be happy with that they gave you those two options. It's much better at community pools where you can actually talk to the instructor about your child and there is some flexibility. read more

I'm now 76 years old. I remember going to Meadowbrook when I was about 6 or 7. My Mom, Dad and I had fantastic times there. I really loved to swim. These are memories I cherish. Wish we could return to those days. One time I will always remember. Buster Crabbe was at the pool one day. I guess he took a liking to me. He taught me how to dive. I will always remember this and the great times we had at Meadowbrook. It looks like it has changed a lot, bur all for the better. I bet Buster's spirit is still there. Bill read more

Horrible customer service all around! How can you expect anything else when the Directors( Patty and Connie) have the same exact issue. Will lie to get you to sign up and things change without any communication. Substitute teachers do not know that they are teaching and let's not forget teachers turning back to 3/4 year olds who can not swim! Place itself is in need of a serious makeover. Meadowbrook Swim Club is about a 30 second walk from my house, which is what prompted me to join it recently. If you get a year long membership, it means you don't pay AS much for the summer months. I thought it would motivate me to workout and I'd also have an indoor pool to take my daughter to in the winter months. Well, turns out, there are only babysitting hours for about two hours in the morning during the week. So... great. I have a two hour block of time to exercise in, which doesn't always work for my schedule. I also learned that the Therapy pool has very limited hours, too (which is really the only place I could swim with her, as the other pool is all lap lanes... I took her in there one time and got some very irritated stares and even a comment or two from lap swimming ladies). This is understandable because the therapy pool is mostly used for classes. But like... I am now paying $129 bucks a month, to workout MAYBE one morning a week if I'm lucky and get in a half hour of swimming with the baby. No, it is not really worth it and I would quit the gym if there wasn't a huge fee to get out of the contract. I really don't understand how they get away with charging so much for the winter months. I should've joined Lynn Bricks for $40 a month which has daycare all the time. Or the MAC which also has an indoor pool! I guess I will suck it up and just go every day in the summer to make up for it. I've been to Meadowbrook Pool with friends in the summer and it's great. It's certainly not the best pool in Baltimore by any means. I grew up going to Dulaney Valley Swim Club and I'd say that's 10 times nicer than Meadowbrook because it has a great snack bar, a tennis and basketball court, a slide, two diving boards and lots and lots more! Maybe I should be writing a review for Dulaney Valley Swim club right now instead. Anyway, I'm guessing that after Michael Phelps won all his medals, they decided they could shoot their prices way up. But, I grew up going to school with him so I'm not really down with paying that much money because the best swimmer of all time swam there. If the gym was some crazy, super awesome gym, that'd be one thing. But the actually gym is basically a hallway overlooking the pool. Half the treadmills are usually not working. There is a decent selection of machines but no stretching area. I usually have to sit on one of these weird old school sit up cushions that has straps to hook your feet under, to do my stretching. In short, if you are joining for the gym... don't. And probably, stick to a summertime membership. If you are a big swimmer, you can definitely get a lot out of the lap lanes but if you have kids and need daycare while you workout, definitely look elsewhere. read more

The woman who answered said there is no option at all, especially in the summer when they are "so busy." To top it off, she was rude. We were here for a swim meet and I was surprised there were no bleachers for spectators to watch the events. But I love that you can bring your own chair and plant it in the clean, sandy beach-like areas. The bathrooms are a bit dated and cramped (the ceilings are low). A digital board announcing events would be nice. It was a bit confusing trying to figure out which event/heat was taking place. The snack bar is fantastic, but the major bonus for me is that Starbucks and Whole Foods are both a .2 mile walk from this facility. Brilliant! I wish other swim meets had that kind of convenience. read more

After showing up for the spin class that was supposed to be held at Meadowbrook Swim Club tonight, the instructor never showed up. There was supposed to be a substitute instructor because the regular instructor said she was going on vacation and that she had made arrangements for the sub to take her place. This has happened four times this year and it is not the instructor's fault but it is poor communication from the management. I asked the staff at the front desk if spin class was still being held and they said they didn't know because no one told them. The management isn't known for it's great communication with it's staff or it's members. Aside from that, the light bulbs over the first dressing booth in the women's locker room still aren't functioning and it's dark and smelly. The bathrooms are very outdated and any repairs that were made in the past are sub par. Mold, mildew, baby diapers that have been sitting in the garbage too long during the day and wet sloppy floors have been the norm. My sweaty gym clothes smell fresher than the women's locker room if you can imagine that. The swim lanes are usually full after work because of so many swim classes that are regularly held. This is fine if Meadowbrook wants to be known or sell itself as a training center but they sell expensive memberships and then don't' provide adequate services to it's members. Members feel like they are an afterthought at Meadowbrook even though the membership is expensive by gym standards. This thought has been heard repeatedly from other members most who no longer belong to Meadowbrook. Meadowbrook needs to decide which business it's in--training swimmers or providing health club benefits to members. It obviously is not capable or has the resources to do both. In this consumer oriented environment, people demand some value for their expensive membership fees. read more

if you want toget serious about swimming this is the place to do it. the work out room is pretty lacking, and a few other things have frustdated me; like swim meets dominating the entire place all summer, and how crowded the single indoor pool gets in the winter. but having a place to go to where serious swimmers work, rather than party people taking a dip, has rubbed off on me and made me a better swimmer. read more

The pool isn't in great condition and not great for swim meets. I love the 50 meter concept. Lane 10 has a current which isn't fair for the swimmers in that lane. The pool needs to be cleaned and needs new cement in the bottom. read more

Meadowbrook has a great swimming teacher, Miss Annie, she taught me, an adult, how to swim properly. Since then she's coached me up to a decent number of laps. Swimming feels great and is ideal exercise. What's the price for good health. I think it's priceless. She also taught my daughter to swim, was extremely patient. Meadowbrook has a 50 meter pool and a bunch of serious swimmers are there, including Olympians, it's inspiring! I'm getting the individual membership rather than the family membership because it's not for children. I've found the receptionists to be helpful and pleasant. They do their job well. The locker room is okay, not lovely, but there's always an available locker, I've never had anything stolen, and the cleaning lady works her butt off. read more

This place is a bit out of my way and I never knew it was there until I happened to see a certificate for a lower than usual priced summer membership online. I thought an open summer pool was going to be great for me and my two little kids to come to on weekends. We never really came as often as I thought we would: maybe once every other week. But it was OK; the kids played in the toddler pool, and we occasionally ventured to the shallow end of the lap pool to practice swimming. I agree with previous reviews that the pools are not in the best condition and need repair, and that it gets uncomfortably crowded. As the summer was coming to an end, we decided to stop by one more time on a very hot day. When we, me and my two toddlers, walked in, two receptionists at the front desk told us our certificate had expired six days earlier. I looked down at my kids, who had spent an hour an a half getting dressed and packing for the adventure. Then, I asked the receptionists if they could work something out. I had not used all the days I could have come with the certificate. But I heard a "no", and one of them went to get Kathy, whoever she is. The woman came out with a stern face and said the summer was over and her members would not appreciate a non-member using the pools. Woman, this was your chance to sell the membership to me. Was it not why you sold discounted summer certificates? Do you have too many winter members? Do you have so much money flowing in that you do not know what to do with it? Is that why the pools are in a terrible condition? Any pool or gym, or a membership club has trial passes, guess passes, or some other sort of solution to resolve this situation and score cool points to gain a new member. No, this didn't cross her mind. And I couldn't really ask her any of these questions. Instead, I walked away with loudly crying toddlers. Kathy, you really knew how to make the kids' day. read more

I have been a member of this pool for a few years, not by my choice, and frankly, it disgusts me. the locker rooms are crowded and filthy, the employees are nothing short of rude and disrespectful. they pretty much ignore you unless you speak first. my kids have done that god awful swim camp for 2 years now, and this will definitely be our last year. I wanted to give it a second try to see if maybe they had gotten things together. my kids were nothing short of traumatized by the chaotic circus they call swim camp. there are WAY too many people there, the "coaches" do not introduce themselves or speak to you when you drop your kid off. they don't tell you where to pick your child up (since they don't acknowledge your presence), so at the end, you're walking all around looking and your kid is the last one waiting for you. I am not at all impressed with this pool, especially the camp. . for such a popular place, you'd think they would pay more attention and maybe teach their employees to say hello. definite thumbs down. the thought of going there gives me a headache read more
