They don't push the kids to do more than they can do but they will make sure the kids are not just going through the motions. They have fun and make it fun for the kids. They promote their studio as inclusive, positive & friendly but it hasn't been that way for a while. There is now an atmosphere of favoritism, bullying that is not addressed by the director. The new space is located on Monroe Ave and could NOT be more convenient. Make a quick left or right off the expressway and BOOM - there's easy parking lot around the back where the main entrance into the studio is. The studio is primarily focussed on dance for kiddos and teens, but I've been lucky to take some of the evening classes they offer for adults, all of which have been outstanding - even for me who is more of an "enthusiastic mover" than dancer. I love how convenient it is for me to make a month-long, once a week commitment to try something new and get moving in a new way. I am currently enjoying adult hip hop class and teacher Solange makes class FUN, accessible, and inclusive of all abilities. I can't recommend enrolling your kiddo here OR taking a class yourself enough. They offer a full schedule of ballet, tap, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, and more for young learners, and sessions for adults are changed up throughout the year. This review is primarily for their Cardio Charleston dance/fitness classes. I have been going for a…read morefew weeks now and love it. The workout is from 6-7pm on Tuesdays. It's $7 a class or $35 for pass (buy 5, get one free). Huge bang for your buck in terms of price for a fitness class. I must first say that my skills in the dance department are limited, I have the hardest time following the steps and often go left first when everyone is going right. It's a mess and pretty amusing, but hey I can laugh at myself and move on. Anyway, just in the few times I've been doing it, I've gotten used to certain moves and the practice does help. The point is, try the class out even if you fear embarrassment or don't think you'll be able to keep up. Stand in the back and remember that we were all in your shoes once (or at least I was). I absolutely love this workout because you're moving non-stop for an hour. They start with some warm up moves, then stretching, then the core of the workout, then cool down, and stretch. It's amazing cardio and great for your legs and calves. The instructors, Doriel and Rebecca do a really good job offering modifications or advanced moves to fit your skill level and they're easy to follow along. It's great if you don't like a typical gym workout. The hour goes by so fast and you really get your sweat on. I feel great (and sore) every time. Groove Juice also performs, hosts Lindy Hop dances, and teaches swing dance lessons. They run the gamut. Find what you like and give it a whirl.

If you've never done any swing dancing before, they have tons of lessons to get you started. And then once you've been dancing a bit, they also have intermediate and advanced lessons to keep helping you become a better dancer. You also probably didn't know that they host some huge, international workshops right in your backyard. Stompology was the first solo jazz workshop of its kind and it draws people from all over the world to Rochester. Swing dancing is a great way to stay in shape, to meet people, and to learn some really cool dance moves! Definitely check out their website and get to one of their events.

This place is super fun. I recently signed up for a beginners belly dancing class (at the constant…read moreencouragement of a friend) and I am really enjoying the experience. Michelle, the owner and instructor, is friendly, fun and encouraging, and she makes the experience very accessible. While you can 'drop in' to classes, I recommend signing up for a session to see what it's about and really get the most for your money. I am not able to actually attend all the classes in the session due to work travel, so I worked it out with Michelle to just pay for the sessions I can attend at the per-session pricing. So far I have not been disappointed. Each class starts with a short warm up, followed by repetitive dance moves. We seem to focus on one or two moves that we do over and over with different music and in different combinations. Each class is different. There is work with the veil, so we get an arm and upper back workout, and there is always a part at the end which is sort of 'watch and follow', where Michelle strings together everything we learned into what feels like a choreographed dance. And Michelle also always leaves a few minutes at the end for questions. The variety of ladies in the class ranges from young (20s) to mature (60s or older), with every race and size represented. We all have a great time in an atmosphere that is fun and not at all judge-y. I love the music and the fact that Michelle provides all the props, like the skirts with jingly coins and veils. The only thing to note is that the parking lot is small and since there are many classes running at the same time (between Nu Mvmnt yoga studio and Writers and Books which share the lot), it might be hard to find a spot. There is street parking in the front of the building on University and the back on Atlantic, as well as on the side.

It's hard to give this place a bad review when your kid is having so much fun and looks forward to going to her dance class. The studio does a fund raiser for the children's hospital around Christmas. I was very impressed with the turn out. The kids loved it and I had fun too.

I tried Flying trapeze for my first time. I have an aerial background and there were 2 new women…read morethat did not. The guys leading the class moved fast, talked fast, but they were clear. They were super flexible with your capabilities and encouraged you to go for it while maintaining safety. Everyone flew. And they even did flying with catching! It was great! After each turn, the instructor on slack that would call each movement, would go over your run. He'd give suggestions of what you did well and what to aim for next time. The new women did great. Just shows that this group was really great with how they instruct. I hope to catch some of their cloud swing workshops. But I will definitely be back!!!!!

We brought our 2 girls (ages 6 & 12) to Roc City Circus for their trapeze test flights. I was more…read morethan a little nervous after watching the professionals demonstrate how to fly (and flip) However, they checked and double-checked their harnesses and spent some individual time with each of them explaining what to do and what not to do. Plus, they were so upbeat and happy that my worries quickly turned to excitement. After they were finished with their safety discussion, my 12yr old (always the dare-devil) got right up there and loved every minute of her fly...she did exactly what she was supposed to do and did an amazing job! My 6yr old (who had been uncharacteristicly quiet and apprehensive since we arrived) started to cry She said she was scared and didn't want to fly, but Daddy surprisingly offered to take her place (even though he's always been terrified of heights). My 12yr old and I watched her as she watched him and then she turned to us and said, "If Daddy can do it, so can I" and that little girl did not falter for a second. She marched up that ladder and stood on that platform with her head held high. You could've heard a pin drop. Everyone in the place stopped what they were doing to watch this little angel stand up to her fear. I kept waiting for her to change her mind, but her determination to "be strong like daddy" gave her the courage to grab onto that trapeze and jump! As she flew through the air, smiling ear to ear, the whole place erupted into cheers! It was such a special moment and I was so grateful to these complete strangers who made this adventure all the more memorable for our baby girl. ROC City not only gave my whole family an experience they will never forget, but it gave my youngest the confidence and pride to continue trying new things And now, I have 2 dare-devils Thank you Roc City!
