Definitely think this gym has a very steep price but how I see is that if I attend at least one class a week (plus workout on my own the other days), then it's worth it. Also, the instructors are amazing. So far I've tried the boxing class and Endure class as well as private sessions for a tennis lesson and the Pilates reformer (they offer 4 free classes that you normally have to pay extra for when I signed up) - all of which I've really enjoyed. Would recommend taking advantage of the free smoothie as well. I love how many classes are offered throughout the day and you don't have to worry about them filling up. There are always machines open as well and lots of squat racks. I wish that the ventilation for the boxing room was better because it got super hot during our workout. The outdoor hot tub is quite spacious and perfect now, especially since the weather is getting colder. The locker rooms and all the equipment are are very clean and well-stocked. You get a waterproof wrist band which lets you badge into the gym and it locks and unlocks your locker, which makes things so much easier since you don't have to carry around a lock. The parking lot can get crowded but the gym itself doesn't get too crowded. It would be nice if they had more events so ppl could get to meet each other because I joined this gym partly to meet new ppl. I do agree with the reviews below that it is a bit stingy for them to only allow us to bring 2 guests a year...my old gym in seattle, I was able to bring a friend each time I went to the gym. Instead of increasing prices, you should increase perks

My membership at Midtown is an indulgence for me, but it's worth every penny. To have a place that goes beyond the "gym" experience is important to me. I take advantage of a midday workout so I avoid most of the evening/early morning crowds. The cafe serves as a work-away-from home space. I like that it's often quieter in there than at a coffee shop. I can get work done and fit a workout in. The food is great too! I love their breakfast sandwiches like the breakfast BLT and the lunch sammies like the ROC tuna and Midtown Springroll. Sometimes I'll grab a green smoothie or the chunky monkey with protein. The gym itself is spotless. It's bright and open. Each of the machines have their own TVs, which for me is the allure. I temptation bundle so my workout is also my guilty pleasure TV time so I'll do the elliptical workout while watching The Pioneer Woman on Food Network. I also use the mat area for stretching and ab work. The pool is great too, I wish I had more time to enjoy it. But for the moments that I get to go out and relax in the sun, it's the greatest pleasure. I'll spend a day here - enjoy the lounge chairs, order food from the cafe, maybe a drink. Pure bliss. I've also visited the spa and had a lovely massage as a birthday gift. This is one thing I need to do more, especially for a spa pedicure and hot stone massages, which are my new favorite things. Despite its proximity to the workout area and cafe, the spa area is quiet and peaceful. In terms of some downsides, I wish the process to bring non-members to play tennis, enjoy a day at the pool, or for a round of paddle was easier. It's either costly or the person's used up their visits. I've gotten to the point where I don't suggest it as an option because it's a hassle to coordinate it. Not everyone has the funds to be a member so it'd be great to have a better system or to go through that process online, I'd love that.

Online yoga class with Randi Lattimore during HikYoga Virtual Fest!
Lauren K.

During the HikYoga Virtual Fest, I attended an online yoga class with Randi Lattimore, who teaches at the Midtown Athletic Club. Let me tell you, if I ever find myself in Rochester, I would come seek her out specifically for a class here. Her Sunshine Yoga class was appropriately paced, contained approachable sequences and left me feeling great. Something I always appreciate is when instructors weave themes into their classes, and Randi made sure it was a mind and body experience.

I would move to Rochester just to belong to this gym! Seriously! My friend and I went to enjoy their spa. You do not need to be a member to do this. When you walk in, everyone is so friendly. They immediately give you a little bag with a robe and slippers. You pick a luxury tea bag in the flavor of your choice. The place is beautiful and seems to have everything. They have group classes, a ton of machines, a shop full of adorable work out outfits, a full restaurant and smoothie bar, outdoor pool and beautiful locker room facilities. As a spa customer, you can use the steam room, sauna and co-ed whirlpool. All facilities are clean, and very high end. They provide everything:towels, shampoo & conditioner, hair dryers, etc. The massage was really nice. The prices are so reasonable and everyone is friendly and professional. The pedicures were so relaxing-we even were given glasses of wine. Amy did my pedicure and was so sweet and did an amazing job! After we left we felt so relaxed! It was such a nice place and not stuffy in the least-such a wonderful experience! We also got smoothies the green machine was awesome! :)

DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS!!!…read more The reason are as follows: 1. When I initially talked to my salesperson he told me that the club was getting a red light sauna as the current one was not working, I assumed it would be soon but the sauna has not worked in 10 weeks since I have been a member which is absurd/ridiculous for a fitness club...I used to own a fitness club with indoor tennis, large fitness room, (at the time one of the biggest in upstate N.Y.), aerobics, pro shop, nice locker rooms with a sauna...if the sauna ever broke down which happened frequently as members would pour water on the coils and short circuit them I would FedEx the appropriate parts and get it fixed ASAP...plus the salesperson was not working there days after I joined so he probably knew that and said anything to sell a membership and assuming get a commission 2. In my opinion the club is oversold with memberships as no matter what time I come in there to work out it's tough getting on any piece of equipment as there's so many people working out 3. I had a member try to walk out with my jacket which I moved around with me as I worked out as didn't want to use your locker rooms 4. I don't want to use your locker room as the one day I forgot my flip flops and I got a wart on the bottom of my foot from your locker room floor 5. The main reason I joined your club is that you had a sauna versus Planet Fitness which did not 6. I have since joined Planet Fitness, both your club and PF are about the same distance and time from my house on East Ave and PF has probably 3x the equipment and space of your club, better machines with at least 2 of every plate loaded machine which usually means no waiting for a machine to work out on + they have more free weights than yours 7. Numerous times your club was dirty, noticeably the floors on the fitness areas 8. I tripped over your vacuum cord which has a 30-40' extension cord...I'm almost 77 and luckily I caught myself and didn't fall which could have been a lawsuit...I own a 4,000 sq. ft. home with 3 stories, (1875 house), and I have the same vacuum which is cordless for safety and ease of moving around and the last club I belonged to, (Midtown), had the cordless backpack vacuum so members wouldn't trip over a long cord and for ease of movement and safety and was faster as no cord to deal with...if I can have a cordless one as a homeowner I'm sure a big corporation like LA Fitness can afford one 9. I previously emailed the manager or so I thought but it was a generic email to LA Fit on a Friday and she never got back to me, I was told at the front desk that I could email her directly from the web site but it was a common email only...after I complained to her (Abby) at the front desk the next Monday she probably looked for it and got back to me in a day or so after that...I've taught small business administration and entrepreneurship at the college level and waiting 4-5 days to respond to a customer's complaint is not acceptable in a well run company...when I complained to her about the sauna she were cordial but kept giving me the run around about it and when it would be fixed and refused to give me any club credit for lack of services - the sauna - which was the main reason I joined your club 10. So I'm leaving LA Fitness and their lack of getting the sauna fixed in 10 weeks means they will lose my membership for many years to come, I've worked out and been an athlete since the 4th grade and will never stop belonging to a gym so LA lost thousands of dollars on my future membership and after the review I post which will be much of the above, you will lose numerous future members and cost the club 10's of thousands of dollars 11. The spin bikes are from maybe 2005 at the best and they are the worst spin bikes I have ever used in 25+ years...and they have maybe 2-3 spin classes a week, I only ever saw one 12. This "Gym" is like a used car lot from 1970 with sales people having desks to sit you down to hard sell you a membership for a "special deal" if you join that day...lying about anything to sell a membership and have that same slimy feeling of those old time used car sales people 13. And when I walked into the club and talked to Abby (East Ave Club in Brighton) I was told that initially I had paid for the first and last month so I have been billed for an extra month upfront so if you want to cancel they get an extra month out of you...what a scam from old time car dealers and scummy salespeople from clubs in the 1970's + 1980's and 1990's Mark McCarthy

It's a circuit training/HIIT style workout, where you roll around the studio and run through a series of different exercises designed to get your whole body moving and sweating and just in better overall shape. There's some work on machines (ski, treadmill, bike, etc.), weights, bodyweight exercises, and more. If you've ever done F45 or something similar, it's not far off, but it's a cool local shop with personable coaches in a clean environment with surprisingly nice facilities and even products in the bathroom for when you're through. Everyone we spoke with from the front desk to the trainers leading the session to the other folks working out seemed cool, and we'll definitely be back when we're in town. Like most workouts (and many other things in life), you get out what you put in. Meaning, if you come in ready to see what your body can do, you'll get a great sweat on. The members are kind and social, which makes classes feel comfortable and community-oriented. The staff are warm, professional, and very attentive. The studio is also well equipped with excellent Pilates machines and accessories, and they offer a variety of class types and packages to suit different needs and schedules. Jenny is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING teacher, and a warm funny person! She clearly knows her craft and is an exceptional teacher. Her guidance is precise, encouraging, and easy to follow. Taking her class felt less like a formal workout and more like learning from a knowledgeable friend who genuinely wants you to succeed. I highly recommend this studio and especially her classes, and her as a person 1:1 teacher/instructor.

Extremely Disappointed - Poor Treatment from Instructors…read more I joined Club Pilates excited to continue my fitness journey with an additional workout option, but unfortunately, my experience has been frustrating and disheartening. Several instructors made rude, snide comments during classes, including things like "there's always one who can't catch on" or suggesting I should be in a lower-level class--before class even started. I'm still learning, but I expected to be supported, not shamed. I don't look like the stereotypical Pilates student, but I follow directions and show up ready to improve. I deserve respect--something I never had to question at places like Breathe Yoga or the YMCA. On top of that, my name has been consistently misspelled on my account despite repeated requests to fix it, which creates issues with my wellness reimbursements. I've tried to stick with it, even going out of my way to avoid certain instructors, but enough is enough. I've never felt so uncomfortable or disrespected at a fitness studio. I've asked to cancel my membership and request a refund for the last month. I'll be continuing my practice at places that value and uplift their members--not tear them down.

You may assume that all physical trainer should do that, and you are right but it doesn't always work out the way it should. Austyn wants a great foundation, and what I mean by that is that he wants you to work perfectly so you will accomplish the most without potentially hurting yourself. I have now worked out as I said four times. In many businesses in the very beginning the person (The salesman) that's showing the form service is perfect but eventually some become lazy once they feel they've made the sale. So far I have noticed nothing but perfection. I hope I am right, I will let you know either way in the future. In addition I explained to Austyn I wanted to lose weight. Austyn created a menu for me. First, to start off the experience, I visited the Kinetix website and requested more information. Within 24 hrs a return email was sent and I had an appointment with one of the coaches, Zach. Zach was friendly, he showed me around the gym, and explained options. I did not feel pressured during the interaction. The gym is new and beautiful. The locker room is pristine and the member lounge has the perfect mid-century modern aesthetic. The 5 personal training sessions required prior to starting group classes didn't seem like it would be "enough" and to be fair, a lot of the movements I knew. With that said, the sessions were useful to acclimate me to the gym. And the sessions were also for the coach to ensure I could perform movements safely, which I appreciate. I was disappointed that I was not taught various Olympic lifts (my sister mentioned these were included in the "on-ramp" classes at her CrossFit gym). I mentioned my concern to Zach and he reassured me I would be taught various moves during the classes. Overall, I am pleased with my experience thus far and will update this review as I have more to say.
