I announced I was going to take a walk, and was told by some car-dependent Long Islanders there wasn't anything out there and there were no sidewalks anyway. Man, adventure is everywhere. Not even ten minutes up the road from the hospital I stumble upon The Art Guild (aka Elderfields Historic Preserve, The Hewlett-Munson-Williams House), a museum and artists studio that has taken up residence in the oldest house in Nassau County (1675). You're free to wander around the home, looking in all its nooks and crannies. Downstairs a painting class was being held and budding artists put their creations to canvas with soothing music playing in the background. Tea, coffee, and treats are available for a modest price. Each month the art theme changes, the month I went the theme was transportation and I thought the art was very well done! Upstairs you'll find some of the resident artists studios, with their work on display as well. There are kitschy bathrooms with ornate light fixtures, creaky floorboards, heavy doors with their original skeleton keys, dimpled glass window panes, bits of original wallpaper, fireplaces, antique furniture, dormer windows, etc. The ground are also beautiful: old barns and sheds, picket fences, stone pathways, stone walls, blooming trees, a gazebo, creaky gates. On a cloudy, misty, early spring day I felt like I was exploring a secret garden in New England. Just up the road from this is Flower Hill Park, a small but pretty park that is also a nice respite from the waiting room. If you're in the area, or anxiously waiting in the hospital, this is a nice stop to make if you're looking for a calm, soothing environment with friendly people who are happy to either chat with you or let you wander the grounds solo. Shout out to Lisa whose love and excitement for the space shown through so strong. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm, it was contagious!

Taylor is extremely talented in the fine arts she loves to draw. While my friends were sending their kids to test prep for High School entrance exams. I was searching for the perfect Art Studio and Mentor for my daughter to build her portfolio. Once her pieces were completed she then applied to her top 3 NYC DOE Specialty High Schools. Her 1st choice High School of Art & Design, 2nd Frank Sinatra & her 3rd choice was Laguardia High School. In March! We wouldn't know if she got in until mid June. In the meantime we applied to Saint Frances Preparatory School AP Art Honors Program with the same portfolio and she got accepted! I knew she was safe for her back up High School if she wasn't accepted. I have to say finding Rob Zeller at The Teaching Studios of Art was the best thing I ever did for Taylor. He helped her focus and taught her the techniques she needed to fine tune her portfolio. For her Still Life piece throughout the entire process from the Pencil Sketch to transforming it into the most amazing oil painting. On June 8th we were going to find out if she got accepted to one of her 3 choices. My husband and I were in suspense with Taylor as we were checking to see if she got in. I was an amazing feeling seeing that she got accepted to a Specialty High School in NYC. But, she got into her first choice High School of Art & Design in Manhattan! Honestly, if it wasn't for Robert Zeller and his Art Studio in The Village of Oyster Bay, who could say more! I don't know where we would be. We signed up for the In Person Private Art Classes. She had 1 on 1 teaching and loved being their to paint. I am extremely grateful that I found The Teaching Studios and proud of all that Taylor was accomplish with Rob by her side. I can't wait for them to start working on her college portfolio for The School of Visual Arts! I know she will get in with Rob as her Mentor. Thank you. If your looking to build your portfolio for High School or College look no further.

Rob Zeller is not only a gifted artist but also a master teacher. He is excellent at assessing students strengths and weaknesses- the perfect combination to encourage and guide artists to their full potential. Small classes sizes enable Rob to devote personal attention to each student as he moves them to the next skill level. Personally, I have been taking classes here for number of years and am now in the Figurative Core Program. This traditional in-depth art program builds on drawing skills to move onto painting. Not only are we fine honing our abilities, Rob is also mentoring our personal projects and guiding us into being able to work independently.
