We stoped by on a weekend afternoon to discuss purchasing a hot tub/spa for our deck. There was one floor model on display. There was only one salesperson working, and he was busy with another customer. We had to wait a long time to get some help. We were advised to look online at their spa selection, and that would be the way to place an order. Later, we went to Hydro-spa, which is located nearby on Topanga Canyon Blvd. There, the sales people have extensive knowledge of spas, and there are many makes and models to choose from. read more

The website said the product was available and let me pay. Went into the store they said they never carried it. Called customer service some Indian guy said he could not help me. DISCRIMINATION!!! My friend and I (we are both black, early 20s) just walked into this store to look at pool umbrellas and basketball hoops. It was completely empty, not a single customer. Two employees sat at the counter directly in front of the entrance. They both looked at us when we walked in and I managed to lock eyes with the male employee for a millisecond. He didn't speak or react really, it felt like he was looking right through me. 60 seconds later, an older white couple walks in and the same male employee shouts, "hey welcome!" We felt super disrespected and decided to leave the store immediately. I will find some other place to get my pool supplies from now on. I won't be back. read more

Who likes to get smacked in the face by the smell of chemicals? Not me. Alas, this is the experience coming into Leslie's. Luckily, I found my pool thermometer quickly (not because of great signage, mind you) so I wasnt subjected to the smell for too long. Ironically, as I checked out, the cashier, who was super nice, commented on how he liked the 'fresh' scent that I was wearing. While I know the pomegranate splash was nice, I'm sure it was ambrosia compared to the scent in the store. Close to home and friendly service. This store is just incompetent and understaffed. I bought a Polaris pool sweep and when it failed, I brought it in for service, which took over a month to get back. First the power cord could only be installed by one person, who often was the only person in the store. Then when it had other issues, it took forever to get it back. Again, it failed but fed up with the algae blooms due to the lack of a pool sweep, I took it to Tarzana. While it was opened, it was evident that the new cord had been nicked, the propeller mounted incorrectly at an angle, and the styrofoam insert was missing. Determined never to use Leslie's again for anything, I went to Tarzana store since this particular Polaris is only sold by Leslie's. There I met Ingrid Rios, who took it in for repair, kept in contact with me for updates, and had the machine back in my hands in a reasonable time. This is the kind of staff that makes for repeat customers....In the end, avoid West Hills and go to Tarzana if you want competent, pleasant and great service. Kudos to Ingrid Rios. read more

Not a fan. The staff isn't very helpful, and the prices are WAY higher than other pool/chemical suppliers in the area. Chlorine costs nearly twice as much as it does at the small independent pool store that's only a couple miles away. read more

So....To those that have had poor Leslie's service...Hear this message! To those at Leslie's Corporate and Division Offices...pay heed! So many companies and there employees forget that sales is half the equation, SERVICE is the other most important and most difficult half. This Leslie's store in West Hills has been my location for supplies and equipment for 20 years! I have spent well over $10,000 at this location. The problem is service was always poor. Not sales service....SERVICE service. Example, I spent over $1500 on a robotic cleaner. 1 st year worked great, since then it has been a headache and failure. It has been serviced for the exact same issue over and over with no positive working result. My warranty was down to 5 days and the company zodiac never returned an email of complaint. So...on a last ditch effort I took my system back to my local store where on occasions they took up to 6 weeks to do a repair with zero follow up calls to me! (This was typical) But... this time was different. I met a new face working at my Leslie's location! Mr. Shane Turner! This young man has amazingly great positive attitude and was so helpful. He personally worked on my unit that day, called me that evening and left me a message with is cell number should I need to speak with him. He spoke with the assistant manager Jason McCoy about the problems with this unit. I came into the store the next day and spoke with Jason and he was very nice and professional, listened to my problems and history, and with Shane's recommendation he advocated on my behalf with zodiac to replace my non working unit with a new unit. Within one day, I received a call from Shane that the exchange had been approved. Mind you, it was under warranty only for 5 more days! This was finally great service! Mr. McCoy and Shane Turner were outstanding from the second I walked in that door, and this was the FIRST time this EVER HAPPENED at this location. Leslie's should Promote MR McCoy to Store manager immediately and Shane should be promptly made a store manager as well, They get it! Shane at the very Least should be made Assistant manager as from what he told me he moved out her from a Leslie's in another state where they obviously know how to train and develop good, caring managers! I BEG the management at LESLIES.....Don't let this young man get away! Don't try and bump him up with bottom scale pay! Give this man what he deserves! A promotion for what your company needs and what us customers deserve. Caring quality managers that get paid to reflect their value! I rate this store 10 under these two guys and Shane travels a long way and works at several stores. A good lesson to learn is if you overuse and abuse the goodwill and motivation of your managers and too performers, you lose them or worse, there great attitudes turn bad! Reward these two guys! Garett .., (Store MGR) aka Rip Off Artist , I have been going here for awhile , when you have to deal with Garett he doesn't stop trying to up sell you on more product it's annoying . Well I caught him in a scam , I went in for a O ring for my filter valve, he looked it up and said " O sorry they don't sell that separately, you have to buy the whole part". 107.88 Garett ordered the part and it came in but it was not the whole part, mmmmm went down to Discount Pool Supply asked then for the O rigs for my filter vale. They had them for $9.99 . Fixed my problem ! It's one thing to up sell , it's another thing to sell you 100 bucks in parts you don't need. Think about this before you bring your water to them to be tested , how much product are they selling you that you don't need ? read more

Horrible customer service throughout the entire company! Long story short. I went to this store to buy a new pool cleaner. The clerk at this location informed me that there were "very busy today", hastily blurred a few words about the Polaris pool sucker, rushed me to the register, collected $400, and out the store. Turned out the product did not perform as the clerk said it would. Trying to return the sucker, I learned there is a 20% restocking fee, of which no one had inform me at the time of the purchase. In turn I escalated this to the store manager - no resolution. I called the corporate office and was promised a call back from the district manager within "two days". Two weeks later I am still waiting for that call. At this point I have returned the product to the store and filed a dispute through my AmEx card. Avoid problems. Shop elsewhere. read more

Clearly this Leslie's location is the runt of the litter. I originally visited this store on Dec. 19 as I believed I needed a new pool pump. I left the store and researched the equipment they were trying to sell me. After determining the equipment was what I needed, on 12/23 I called to have a technician come out to confirm whether or not a new pump was actually needed. They set an appointment for 12/31. After the tech left a quote for the work, I asked about the promotion I saw in store. He told me I would have to call the store to see if they could do anything. On 12/31 I called the store and spoke to Jason who promised to call me by the end of day. He didn't. I waited until 1/2 since store was closed on 1st. I called store only to learn that Jason wasn't working in that store that day. I asked Kierstan (girl who answered phone)to get a message to him. By 3pm I still hadn't received a call back so I called Kierstan again. 30 minutes later Jason finally calls me back. He advised he had to escalate my request to upper management and requested I give him another day or two max. He assured me he would call either way on Friday. Here we are five days later and still no call from Jason. Since I didn't want my pool to turn into a murky mess, ordered the pump from Leslie's online (who had a $50 off promotion going on which no one bothered to mention) and later called the 800 number for Leslie's to schedule the install. I explained the nonsense that I had been dealing with and they agreed to offer $100 off of the install which is better than nothing but certainly not worth the amount of time I exhausted during this frustrating process. I purchased my original equipment from Leslie's and this replacement pump but I will never deal with them again moving forward. Their lack of professionalism is astounding. I wonder when Jason will bother to pick up the phone to return my call. read more

I have to agree with everyone. Constant up sell. I went in for an adaptor for my vacuume and some DE. He kept trying to sell me chlorine after I told him I have over 15 bottles of bleach at home I'm trying to get through. Over and over I finally had to say just ring it up already. He tried to tell me that weight by volume is different that weight by measure while trying to sell me a DE scoop. Weight is weight lol Never going back. So many other good pool stores in the valley. Sad part is Leslie's probably threatens the guy with his job if he doesn't sell enough stuff. Garbage company. read more

I've patronized the Leslie's store on Platt for years simply because it was close. The personnel has ranged from adequate to self-serving to surly. The main goal appears to be selling chemicals that may or may not be what you need. After a water test I'm sold one product. I come back for another test and they tell me the conditioner is high I need to buy something else. Why is conditioner high? Because, they tell me, I used the last product they sold me. I had a mustard algae problem. They sold me a product. It didn't work. I returned to either get a refund or get some more of the product at their expense. They refused. But they did try to sell me two other products. So I'm done with Leslie's. West Hills Pool Supply is farther away but they solved the mustard algae problem immediately. read more

Not sure why all the bad reviews really..... I went to a pool store before Leslie's for help with algae they sold me a $35 bottle to get rid of it. Did the job for a week and then it came back, went to Leslie's and was sold a Chemical to be added weekly. Now my pool is algae free and has been for months. Also switched from Liquid chlorine to granulated with the advice of the manager. Best advice ever, chlorine lasts longer and never been cleaner. Yes the prices are a little higher than some other places but I've had nothing but solid advice from here. I would recommend Leslie's to my friends and no I am not employed by them read more

I wish I had read the reviews on here before I went to this store, I also wish I had trusted my gut when I thought the salesperson was selling me overpriced stuff I didn't need. I was green, I should have done more research but for some reason I always think people are trustworthy and out to help. I bought over $600 worth of chemicals, some of which I haven't even used yet. It doesn't appear that I will use them either. Chemicals are not returnable. I should have known at this point not to go back, but for some reason I feel big chain stores have good value even if their service isn't good. I decided to buy a crawler cleaner to keep the bottom clean, he sold me the MX8. It was the only one that would work with my new pump. He picked up a filter canister and told me I had to have it. Turns out I didn't. Turns out it didn't really fit the crawler he sold me. The attachments he sold me on top of that didn't help. Turns out the canister was $65 cheaper somewhere else. I decided to take it all back as I was just frustrated with the service. I felt like I was always being up sold and over sold on stuff I didn't need. I didn't feel like I could trust a thing he said. I explained this all to him and he just said I needed to research my products more .... the reason I go to a store is so they can tell me what I need. There was no sort of empathy or understanding. He then proceeded to tell me about the restocking fee which I wasn't informed of at the point of sale. Guess what ... it worked out at $65. The exact amount I could save by buying my stuff elsewhere. He really seemed to enjoy this. At this point I was never going to let him have anymore of my business. I paid the restocking fee and walked out. I won't be going back or encouraging anyone else to go there. Now on to another local store where hopefully I am not constantly up sold on items that aren't entirely necessary or over priced. I will say that the Leslies Pool Technician that came to my house, his name was Itai (I write his name hoping someone from Leslies will give him a pay raise or a bonus or something) and he was great. Spent time with me figuring out the problem with my filter and walking me through everything. He was great. I have a large job pending with Itai, several thousands of dollars, I have to consider that this too may to overpriced so now I need to take some time and decide what to do. I'm hoping Itai is as good as I think ....... read more

If there was some way to give this company less then one star I would. Don't walk run away from this rip off company. They ripped me off for almost $4000 and did a horrific job installing my pool new pool heater/ equipment so bad in fact i had to have another company come out and fix all the mistakes Leslie's made resulting in another $500.00. I keep going in and giving this place a chance because it's so close. There's two consistent things about this place. The attitude and the chemical pushing of very inflated product prices. The second I walk in I'm given attitude. Each employee insists that THEY are chemists and to listen to their protocol. Each time I go in for the same issue, I am given a whole new list of chemical concoctions! It's unbelievable and then each employee says the last employee didn't know what they were talking about. It's either very calculated and that's how they are trained, or they truly think they are better than the last guy/girl. I've had more than one unpleasant experience at this pool store. I was literally out the door with my purchase when the manager everyone's complaining about pushed more & more products on me. Also, before buying anything, check their return policy (which, conveniently enough for them, is NOT stated on the back of their receipt like most retailers). If you pay with cash, you won't get cash back. In fact, you have to wait a week for the corporate check in the mail. I repeat: I paid cash for an expensive item on Saturday, returned it unused the next day, and received my check the following Saturday. I now go to another pool supply store not too far away. Way better customer service and prices. They sell me just what I need and sometimes they'll say my pool water is fine and I won't need to spend for anything that day, unlike this Leslie's. read more

I just waited for seven minutes while Garrett, says he's the manager, was talking on the phone, before I finally interrupted his phone conversation asking him to acknowledge me. He told me the person on the phone came first. He told me that they are open til 7, and I could come back. I guess he wanted to put me in my place. If this wasn't the only store within a couple blocks of my house I would never come back, but I will come back, but at least now I know. Oh that's right, WALMART, it's only 4 blocks away and half the price. And if you have any other places close to you that you could go, I would highly advise. read more

I'm "do it yourself" type of guy because I enjoy working with my hands and saving money. So I normally wouldn't go to a place like Leslie's and pay retail. After trying to condition my pool and making it worse (actually bad), I sucked it up and brought a water sample into the store. A guy named Austin did a test and quickly figured out a solution. He sold me only what he knew for sure I needed. He told me that if I didn't get certain results, only then I should come back for additional chemicals. Everything turned out great without having to buy more. I feel like he saved me money and time! read more

I took my Polaris pool sweeper in for repair to the West Hills store. Shane has been helping me out with the repair, which included assuring the warranty is in place. Shane spent an incredible amount of time and effort in helping me resolve all issues with the manufacturer, and went far above and beyond to make sure that I (the customer) was completely satisfied with his efforts and the service he provided. Shane was outstanding in helping me navigate through all issues and concerns, and I would strongly recommend Shane (and the other team members at Leslie's Pool Supply) for all pool purchases and pool services. The team at Leslie's in West Hills are very experienced and highly knowledgeable, and I am extremely happy with their superior professionalism and incredible service. I went in today and Bought 2 half gallons of a wrong Chemical called ALGAE CONTROL it was $52.99 each, it came to $110.00 With tax, I get in my car and discover it was the wrong Chemical, now mind you I bought several other things, the Bill came to over $300.00 I went back in the Manager Refused to give me back my Money, they said they Do not Refund Chemicals. I would give them a zero star if that is an option. My husband and I moved to this area recently and became first time pool owners. So we went to Leslie's to look around and potentially purchase some supplies. While my husband was looking around, I was watching my toddler who picked up a couple of floaties on the shelf and played with them. He certainly did not break things or made a mess. When I went to put things back, one of the salesmen straight out told me that he just put the shelf back together and that we should stay away. Now, I understand that it takes work to put the products in the shelves and some kids can be unruly (which was not the case here). But to have a sales guy say that to a customer is simply rude. I pulled my family out of the store right away and will NOT be going back. read more

The employees there don't seem to know what they are doing. I went to get my water tested and the employee didn't know how to test for my salt level. But he then proceeded to encourage me to buy the package that included 4 bags of salt (160 lbs total) to save money. I told him it doesn't make sense for me to spend $300 on chemicals, including 160 lbs of salt, when I don't even know how much salt is in my pool. Another time I called to ask if they had replacement o-rings for the backwash valve of my filter. The clerk asked for my name and number and that he would call me back in 20 minutes to let me know if they had the part. Of course after waiting 40 minutes, no phone call. So I decided to go there and check for myself. They couldn't find the part so I drove to Discount Pool Mart and they took less than 30 seconds to show me the o-rings that I needed. Definitely won't be going back to Leslie's, at least not the one on Platt. read more

This Leslie's basically re-enforces every horror story you've heard about them. You walk into to the door and all they do is push product onto you. Walked into the store just wanting to get a $20 bottle of clarifier and ended up getting bullied into getting over $300 in chemicals.
