I've been away for more than six months and this cafe's improvements have really elevated the Gordon St. John Ave precinct. We came here bright and early at 6am for breakfast. So bonus points for opening this early to cater to workers and people dealing with jet lag. We had muesli, French toast, big pan bf and warm flaky croissant. Every one was presented to us not only nicely but they also tasted great. Muesli was homemade, crunchy, well toasted with a good mix of nuts and dried fruit. The accompanying fresh fruit was of generous proportion too. French toast was made with their own baguette with sides of banana and syrup. Big bf was huge with eggs, 2 sausages, greens, mushrooms, bacon and a side of baguette. Croissant was fresh out of the oven and something to die for! We had 2 skim lattes which were average as it wasn't hot enough for our taste. I would return again and again but the breakfast did cost quite a bit so it will be for special weekends or a treat.

This is one of those little Asian bakeries that churns out a dizzying variety of sweet and savoury baked goods like pork floss buns, milk bread, taro and red bean buns, coconut cream cakes, green tea loaves, and about a billion (I've counted them, an actual billion) other varieties of delicious things. You get your tray, a set of tongs, then you run around the store like a dog chasing a ball, putting all sorts of amazing things on your tray to smuggle home and eat on the couch while watching daytime television. Sounds pretty ace, right? That's not even the best bit. It's cheap. Like, ridiculously cheap. It's not dirt cheap - have you seen the price of dirt these days? - it's better than that, way better. Everything's between $1.50 and $3.00. And if you buy multipacks, why, you might as well be holding out your pocket for the girl at the counter to be filling it with cash. That's the kind of value Bakery King represents. I like to ruin my gym visits by stopping in after a training session and gorging myself.

It may not have the prettiness if other bakeries but it makes up for it in deliciousness! The is a wide variety of baked goodies avaliable from cocktail buns to egg tarts. My personal favorites are the crispy taro bun and red bean bun. They are constantly baking fresh buns so it is likely that you will get a warm fresh from the oven bun. Delicious! They are also well priced with buns starting from $1! How can you go wrong? !
