The coffee is delicious and well decorated and the place smells AMAZING. Have only managed to try the Kurtosh (cinnamon was recommended, was quite good) but have been staring at literally ALL the desserts. Kurtosh is a cool little cafe on Randwick the spot. It's vintage in decor and 'modern vintage coffee appliances'. They sell a range of cakes which you can buy a whole slab or just your choice of weight (per grams). By far the tastiest one is the cinnamon tea cake. I also really enjoy the iced coffee there which isn't full of ice cream, rather, actually iced coffee with flavour. This time I ordered the Kurtosh Itself to share with my friends. You can pick the flavour - I got the coconut one. There is so cinnamon, almond and more. The only thing is be prepared to watch them make it for ten minutes. Interesting to watch and at least you know it's fresh. I'm not sure of the flavours as it was a bit like Licorice. Nice and crunchy, warm and with a covering of coconut. read more

The only thing I would suggest they change at Kurtosh, apart from the allegedly red back riddled, brown snake swimming, "outback dunny" which I've never seen or used it, and only read about it on Yelp, but it sounds dangerous and the reason Inever used or saw it is cos I'm too busy inside pumping fist after fist of delicious cake into my mouth. Where was I.. Oh yes the only thing I would change would be take the glass away from between me and the cake, love the principal that'll you cut my slice but lets take out the middle man and let me cut it! This place is da bomb! Love the fact they have little bits of things you can try and taste while you're trying to make up your mind of what to buy. The choices are a little overwhelming because you really do want to get everything. I dropped by this place as I was in charge of desserts recently at a dinner recently. The sponge cake and stick peanuts things were a hit. What they are famous for though is the kurtosh which they have several versions. Best thing you buy these products by weight. Discovered this great cake and coffee shop at the Spot in Randwick. Since I go to Crows Nest quite often I also make the effort to seek out their other branch. There's also one in Darlinghurst if like me you become a fan of their coffee and Duo Mousse chocolate cake. The way you can decide the size of your cake to fit your pocket or your appetite is a great idea - Also a good way to try many different cakes in bite-size pieces. The staff are friendly and pretty efficient and will even bring you some water after you finished your cake and coffee when it's not so busy. It's very busy on Tuesdays and Saturdays is prime time for the Spot because of the local Ritz Cinema so getting a seat or a table can be hard. read more

AWESOME that you get to essentially pay for how much dessert you actually want to eat. Buying small pieces of dessert cut out from huge slabs of desserts sold to you by the weight is a fun experience. Less fun is getting the bill at the end, more for the surprise factor than anything else. I feel like it's pretty pricey - cost us $20 for 3 smallish pieces of tiramisu, passionfruit mousse and raspberry cheesecake respectively. But in a town when a dessert can cost $18 in a restaurant maybe I shouldnt complain. Grab a table outside if you can. Their actual kurtosh is delish! read more

However, the bathrooms were so nasty, that I actually wouldn't go back here. You have to walk through the alley and out the back, through what appears to be a garbage tip and into a tin shed/shack. One of the sweetest olfactory moments I have had, ever! Cosily tucked down a side street in Randwick at The Spot, Kurtosh is a new kind of cake shop. Hungarian treats are displayed under glass cabinets in this gorgeous addition to the upwardly trendy area. The beautiful tiling on the walls gives this space a Euro feel and the staff are inviting enough to share any info on the exquisite cakes if you are willing to listen. Huge, square mousse cake of dark and white chocolate is very tempting. Baked cheese cake and tiny croissants and apparently "great" coffee. Try a little Hungarian morsel and you will be sure to take some home with you. I can't wait to take a friend for coffee and sit on one of the cute vintage chairs out the front and try another of their spectacularly naughty creations. An enticing place indeed. read more

I had a small slice of the gluten free berry cheesecake and the gf carrot cake. I preferred the later despite it being a little dry. the former was somewhat nondescript with almond meal and therefore not obviously cheesecake like. But both were pleasant and better than average. All the cakes are made from scratch- they are not the commercial kind. And as others have mentioned, they sell by weight so you can mix and match. Relaxing interior- music not too loud. I have been here a couple of times, the pastries are great especially when they have the unusual combinations. Their namesake pastry is decent but also not my favorite. The chocolate cookie however has me coming back for more. The service here though hasn't been that great which is why I'm only giving them 3 stars. Friends took me to The Spot after raving about the cake here. Was definitely curious, and down the rabbit hole we went. It's a very friendly staffed, cozy atmosphere that's nice to sit and chat after dinner. I'm a big fan of cafes that are still open at that time. It was a narrowed down choice between 2 cakes, and in the end the Carrot Cake beat out Mum's Chocolate Cake. That was the easy decision.... When faced with how much of the slab cake you were willing to eat...that proved to be the most difficult. The icing was delicious, and the cake was very moist! Some places can not seem to get the cake to be moist enough, but Kurtosh gets it right. Our pot of English Breakfast was accompanied with a little bottle of milk, which all that was missing from it was a tag that says "Drink Me". With it's Alice In Wonderland feel in the sense of big slabs of cake enticing you to "Eat Me" and small bottles of milk & small stools to sit on, it's a place I would certainly come back to. Mum's Chocolate Cake is waiting for me. read more
